A HyperOS update that appears frozen is not always a failed update. Xiaomi releases firmware in model-specific batches, and availability can vary by region. First identify whether the phone is waiting for the release, downloading the package, verifying it, or installing it; each stage has a different remedy.
Use the checks below in order. They keep your data intact and rely on the phone’s built-in updater. Do not install a package intended for another model or region.

Identify what “stuck” means on your phone
Look at the exact screen, percentage and error message before changing anything. A phone that remains at 100% for several minutes may be verifying or preparing the installation rather than downloading. Leaving the updater untouched for a short period can be appropriate when the progress indicator is still changing or the phone is warm from processing the package.

These stages are related but not interchangeable. A network change can help a download, while it cannot make an incompatible package pass verification.

1. Confirm that the update is available for this device
Check the exact model and rollout status
Xiaomi distributes HyperOS releases in batches. Two phones with similar names can receive different firmware, and a release available in one country may not yet be offered in another. Check Xiaomi’s HyperOS eligibility information for the precise model shown in Settings → About phone/tablet. Compare the phone’s sales region with the region where it was purchased.
If the update is not yet offered to your model or region, waiting is not a download failure. Repeatedly clearing updater data or attempting an unrelated package will not make an unreleased build appear and can create a verification problem.
Account for the update cycle
Xiaomi’s general update-availability guidance describes an update cycle of around two to three years, but that is a broad guideline rather than a promise for an individual model. It does not establish a release date for your handset. Regional certification, carrier distribution and staged rollout timing can all affect when the notification arrives.
2. Fix a download that will not progress
Try another network
Xiaomi identifies network or server connectivity as a possible reason an OTA package fails to download. If the phone is using Wi‑Fi, connect it to another reliable network that is already available, then retry from the system updater. If you are on mobile data, switch to stable Wi‑Fi when possible. A network change is a troubleshooting step; it does not require buying a new router, cable or other accessory.
Keep the phone connected to the chosen network while the package is being retrieved. Avoid moving between several networks during one attempt, because an interrupted transfer can restart or leave an incomplete package that must be downloaded again.

Check data costs before using mobile data
HyperOS packages can be large. Xiaomi warns that downloading over mobile data may incur additional charges or consume a limited allowance. Check your carrier plan before enabling mobile-data downloads, especially when roaming. The updater’s data setting and your carrier’s billing rules are separate; allowing the download on the phone does not remove carrier limits.
Make room in internal storage
An update needs free phone storage for the downloaded package, temporary files and the newly installed system. Xiaomi’s guidance for the Xiaomi 14T specifically says sufficient memory is needed to avoid installation failure. That page does not publish a universal free-space number, so there is no reliable threshold that applies to every HyperOS device.

Empty the trash or recently deleted area in file and photo apps if it still counts toward storage. Do not delete system folders or unfamiliar files merely because their names look large.
3. Retry safely after a failed download
Restart once, then check the updater again
If the download has clearly failed rather than merely pausing, restart the phone normally. After it starts, reconnect to the reliable network you selected, verify that storage is available and open the system update page. A restart can clear a temporary updater or connectivity state without erasing personal data.
Use the built-in full-package option
Xiaomi’s general OTA troubleshooting guidance recommends downloading the latest full package when ordinary retrying does not work. On current HyperOS software, the documented route is:

- Open Settings.
- Tap About phone or About tablet.
- Tap the Xiaomi HyperOS icon.
- Open the three-dot menu.
- Choose the available option for downloading the latest or full package, then follow the on-screen prompts.
Labels and available commands can differ by device model and software version. Use the option presented by your own updater. Older instructions that refer to legacy MIUI menus or hidden manual-package screens should not be treated as universal HyperOS steps.

The full package is larger than an incremental update, so allow additional download time and storage. Keep the phone powered and connected until the package has finished downloading.
4. Understand and resolve verification errors
What verification checks
Before reinstallation, Xiaomi says the package is checked to ensure that it is official and suitable for the phone model. This is both a compatibility and authenticity check. A package can be genuine yet still be wrong for your model, region or software channel.
What to do when verification fails
- Return to the built-in HyperOS updater and request the package offered there.
- Confirm that the model and purchase region match the release you are trying to install.
- Do not rename, modify or sideload a package obtained for another phone.
- If the built-in package repeatedly fails verification, contact Xiaomi support rather than forcing installation.
A verification failure is not a reason to disable security checks. Bypassing them can leave the phone unable to boot or without a supported software state.
5. When installation is stuck at 100%
Give the final phase time to finish
At 100%, the download may be complete while verification, unpacking and system preparation are still running. Keep the phone connected to power if possible and do not repeatedly press buttons or shut it down while the installer is working. If the screen provides a clear error, use that error to choose the next step instead of assuming that the percentage itself identifies the fault.

If the phone remains unresponsive
If there is no visible progress for an extended period and the device does not respond to normal on-screen controls, use only the restart procedure documented for your exact model or obtain guidance from Xiaomi support. An online instruction to hold a particular volume button for a fixed number of seconds has not been established as a general HyperOS remedy; button combinations vary by device and can open recovery functions.
After a normal restart, check whether the update completed, rolled back to the previous system or displayed an error. Do not start another installation immediately if the phone is repeatedly rebooting; record the message and seek model-specific assistance.

Use the least destructive steps first
For post-update abnormalities, Xiaomi’s FAQ recommends restarting and then manually downloading the latest package through the system updater. This is different from a failed initial download: factory reset is not the first-line answer to every stalled OTA.
- Restart the phone normally.
- Open the HyperOS updater and request the latest full package using the built-in menu.
- Install it only after the package completes verification.
- Test the phone after it boots, checking the specific function that was failing.
Back up before considering a factory reset
If system-level faults persist after the supported package is installed, Xiaomi lists a factory reset as a last resort after backing up your data. A reset removes user accounts, applications, photos, messages and local files stored on the phone. Confirm that important data is synchronized or copied elsewhere, and make sure you know the credentials needed to set the device up again.

A factory reset will not restore an older HyperOS or MIUI release. Xiaomi states that its smartphones do not support system rollback. Do not treat reset instructions as a method for downgrading the operating system.
7. Know when to contact Xiaomi
Submit feedback from Settings
If the documented restart, network, storage and full-package steps do not solve the problem, Xiaomi’s post-update guidance advises submitting feedback through Settings. Include the exact model, current HyperOS version, region of purchase, stage at which the update stops, percentage shown, error text and what you already tried. Screenshots, if the phone allows them, can help support distinguish a download failure from verification or installation trouble.
Ask the right support channel
Questions about whether a model is eligible, which region supplied its firmware or why a carrier-branded device has not received a release may require regional Xiaomi support or the seller. Tell support where the phone was purchased rather than relying only on the language or time zone currently configured on the device.
Stop troubleshooting and seek service promptly if the phone cannot boot, becomes unusually hot, shows signs of battery damage or enters a continuous reboot loop. Keep the device and its charger available so a technician can identify the model and software state.

Neither path requires a paid accessory or external storage. The relevant decisions are the failure stage, release availability and free internal space.
