Start by identifying the exact lock
A code that works for one Hellraiser: Revival puzzle is not a universal keypad code. Before entering another combination, note the room, the route point and the landmark beside the lock. A cabinet in a basement medical room is a different puzzle from the cabinet in the painting hallway, even if a guide calls both of them a cupboard or keypad.

Guide terminology is inconsistent. The same type of interaction may be described as a cupboard, locker, cabinet, safe or door. Searching only for “keypad” can therefore lead you to the wrong entry. Use the physical setting in front of you to match the lock to a location-based list.
- Write down the room or area name shown by the game, if one appears.
- Record a distinctive landmark, such as paintings, a music room, a snake room, a graveyard cabin or an operating theater.
- Note whether the lock is a cabinet, safe or door; this helps distinguish similarly named rooms.
- Compare the route position with the guide rather than relying on a guide’s object label alone.
The first painting-hallway cabinet: 9901 or 0199?
The early cabinet beside the paintings is the one documented exception where the published answers conflict. Insider Gaming reports 9901. PowerPyx reports 0199 and then 9901 as alternatives. A separate launch-coverage code list records both values and says that the reason for the discrepancy was not verified through gameplay.

That disagreement is not established as a platform, difficulty or game-version difference. There is no verified evidence in the available coverage that one edition uses 0199 while another uses 9901. Treat the values as conflicting third-party reports, not as a confirmed version-specific rule.
How to check the painting clue
Insider Gaming links the first cabinet to abbreviated dates on the nearby painting plaques. Use those plaques as your local cross-check. Confirm that you are standing at the cabinet in the painting or red hallway, inspect the dates associated with the paintings, and compare the resulting four-digit sequence with the reported value. This is more reliable than copying a code from a list whose room label may not match your location.
If 9901 is rejected at that exact cabinet, 0199 is the other value reported by the guides. If both are rejected, do not conclude that every other code in the game is wrong. Recheck the hallway, the cabinet and the plaque clue first; the sources do not establish a universal reset sequence or a confirmed bug fix.

The route labels above are deliberately paired with landmarks because different walkthroughs name the same area differently. For example, a guide may call a lock the videotape cabinet while another calls the room the laundry room. The landmark pairing is the useful part of the match.
A step-by-step troubleshooting sequence
1. Stop repeating a code from another room
Repeatedly entering a combination from memory can make it difficult to tell whether the problem is a wrong code or a wrong lock. Stop and identify the current room. If the nearby object does not match the description in the guide, set that code aside.
2. Match the lock to a landmark
Use two identifiers whenever possible: the room or route position and a physical landmark. “Cabinet” alone is not enough, because several cabinets appear in the reported list. “Basement medical-room cabinet” or “graveyard cabin safe” is a useful match; “the cabinet” is not.
3. Compare the local clue
Inspect the clue associated with that lock. For the painting-hallway cabinet, the clue is the set of abbreviated dates on nearby painting plaques. 4. Enter the location-specific value exactly as reported
Use the four digits for the matched location, preserving leading zeroes. The painting-hallway alternative 0199, for example, has four digits; do not shorten it to 199. Likewise, do not substitute a code from the next location in the route simply because it is the next number in a list.
5. Handle the first-lock conflict separately
At the painting-hallway cabinet, try the value supported by the guide you are following and compare it with the plaque clue. If that report fails, the other published value is 0199 versus 9901, not an arbitrary permutation of the digits. The available coverage does not prove why both values appear in print, so record which location and value you tested if you need to seek help.
6. Treat a still-rejected code as unresolved
If the correct landmark, clue and reported combination all match but the keypad still rejects the entry, the available sources do not establish a general input-reset procedure, a universal button sequence, or a confirmed platform/version fix for Hellraiser: Revival. Do not present restarting, changing difficulty or reinstalling as a proven solution when the game-specific evidence does not support it.

The first cabinet has conflicting published values
The 9901 and 0199 disagreement is documented only for the early painting-hallway cabinet. It should not be generalized to the other nine reported combinations. Those entries have one value in the launch-coverage list, although they remain third-party reports rather than an official code table.
A leading zero was dropped
Four-digit combinations must be treated as four-character strings for matching purposes. The alternative first code is written 0199, not 199. Copying a value into notes or a search box can accidentally remove the initial zero, so check the original formatting before entering it.
The nearby clue belongs to a different puzzle
Clues are location-specific. If the object in front of you is not near the paintings, the painting-date explanation cannot identify that lock. Move to the clue associated with the actual room instead of forcing the first cabinet’s explanation onto another keypad.

No official Hellraiser: Revival instruction was found that explains how to diagnose a rejected keypad entry. The available material also does not establish that a rejected code is a game bug, that codes vary by console or PC, or that difficulty settings alter the combinations.
