Stop forcing the module. Turn off the DualSense Edge, unplug USB, remove the front cover with the RELEASE latch, raise the module lever, and check that the replacement is oriented with the controller grooves. It should slide along those grooves and click into place. If it does not align or move smoothly, stop and use the seller’s return or exchange process.
A poor fit or continued stick drift does not prove that a module is counterfeit. Sony’s support material explains correct installation and controller troubleshooting, but does not publish a third-party authenticity checklist. Treat the problem first as a fit, seating, software, hardware, or seller-quality issue.

Does a bad fit prove the DualSense Edge module is fake?
No. A module that will not slide into place, or one that fits but drifts, can be incorrectly oriented, incompletely seated, defective, or affected by a controller problem. The official Sony pages reviewed here do not establish that any one of those symptoms identifies a counterfeit part, and they do not provide a visual, packaging, marking, or seller test that proves authenticity.

Left and right official modules are interchangeable. That means a module does not need a special left-side or right-side version to fit, but it still must be the correct Edge module and must engage the controller’s grooves and locking lever.
Prepare the controller safely before removing a module
Disconnecting power and protecting the connectors matters more than diagnosing the seller’s listing while the controller is open. Sony’s replacement instructions and the DualSense Edge manual advise the following precautions:
- Switch the controller off. If the player indicator is lit, hold the PS button until it turns off.
- Disconnect the USB cable.
- Touch a nearby grounded metal object to discharge static electricity before handling the module.
- Do not touch the electrical connectors on the module or inside the controller.
- Work on a clean, stable surface so the cover, lever, and module cannot be dropped or contaminated.

Install the replacement without forcing it
Use this sequence for an official module or a third-party replacement. The physical interface still has to match the Edge controller; forcing a mismatched part can damage the rails, connector, cover, or locking mechanism.

- Turn off and unplug the controller. Hold PS until the player indicator goes out, then disconnect USB.
- Remove the front cover. Slide the rear RELEASE latch and lift the front cover away from the controller.
- Raise the module release lever. The lever must be in the unlocked position before the old module can be removed or a replacement inserted.
- Check orientation. Hold the replacement so its guide surfaces line up with the corresponding grooves in the controller. Do not rely on the direction in which it was packed; inspect the shape and rails.
- Slide it along the grooves. Sony’s instruction is:
Make sure that the stick module is positioned correctly, and then slide the module along the grooves of the controller until you hear a click.
This wording comes from the PlayStation Support replacement guide. - Lower the release lever. The lever should lock the module in place. If it will not lower normally, remove the module and recheck alignment instead of pressing harder.
- Refit the cover. Align the raised parts on the cover with the notches on the controller, then press carefully until the cover clicks into place.
- Test only after the cover is secure. Reconnect the controller, turn it on, and check stick movement in a game or the console’s input settings.
A click is the result of correct engagement, not a target to achieve by force. If the module stops partway, rocks, sits higher than the surrounding housing, or requires unusual pressure, remove it and stop.
What to do when the module will not fit
Recheck the release state
With the controller off and unplugged, remove the cover and raise the module lever fully. A lever that is only partly raised can prevent the module from entering its rails. Never try to push the module past a lever that has not reached its unlocked position.
Compare the rails and orientation
Inspect the replacement and the controller grooves under good light. The guide surfaces should meet squarely at the entrance. Because official left and right modules are interchangeable, swapping sides is not a required fix; an obstruction, wrong orientation, or incompatible shape is more likely. If the module does not start smoothly, withdraw it and try no further pressure.
Check for packing material or visible damage
Look for a protective film, fragment of packaging, bent guide, cracked housing, or foreign material that could block the rails. Do not scrape the electrical contacts or use metal tools inside the controller. If anything appears damaged, photograph it before attempting another installation.

Stop when alignment remains wrong
Do not sand, file, bend, lubricate, or modify the module or controller. Those actions can turn a returnable item into a damaged one and may create a connector or mechanical failure that did not exist initially. Keep the module, box, seals, invoice, and shipping materials together, and request a return or exchange from the seller.
Ask Sony when the hardware itself is uncertain
If a known-compatible module still cannot be installed, or if the controller’s grooves, lever, or cover appear damaged, contact PlayStation Support. Explain that the controller is a DualSense Edge, describe where the slide stops, and state whether another module fits. Do not describe the item as counterfeit unless you have independent evidence; fit failure alone is not that evidence.
What to do when the module fits but stick drift remains
Confirm seating before changing software
Turn the controller off again, disconnect USB, and verify that the module is fully along the grooves, has clicked, and is secured by the lowered lever. Confirm that the cover is also aligned with its notches and clicked shut. A module that is slightly high or not locked can produce unreliable input.

Sony lists controller reset as an initial troubleshooting step. Use the reset procedure specified for the Edge in the controller support instructions, then reconnect it and test the stick. Resetting does not authenticate a part and does not prove that drift was caused by software; it simply removes a controller-state problem as one possible explanation.

Update the PS5 and controller software
Install available system software for the PS5 and controller software for the DualSense Edge, then test again. Sony’s controller support hub provides the current update and troubleshooting paths: PlayStation Controllers Support. Record the software versions and the date of the test if you need service.
Separate drift from a game-specific setting
Test the stick in more than one game or in the console’s input interface. A dead-zone setting, calibration option, or game-specific control scheme can make a small input appear only in one title. If the stick moves without touch across multiple contexts after reseating, resetting, and updating, treat it as an unresolved hardware issue.
Escalate persistent drift
A newly fitted module that still drifts may be faulty, poorly seated, or part of a controller problem. The available official information does not identify which explanation applies to an individual unit. If reset and updates do not solve it, choose the stick or cover-fit issue in PlayStation’s repair/support flow. Sony directs users with continuing controller problems to PlayStation Repairs through its support pages.
How to evaluate a replacement listing without claiming it is genuine
You cannot establish authenticity from fit or drift alone, and the official pages do not publish a counterfeit checklist. You can, however, make a better purchasing and return decision by checking the information that is actually relevant to compatibility and recourse.

The official product source says the module is not for other controllers. Do not buy a listing that only says “DualSense replacement” without explicitly identifying DualSense Edge compatibility.
Document the problem before returning or seeking repair
Good records make a fit or drift claim easier to resolve:
- Photograph the module, box, labels, and seller information before altering anything.
- Record the controller model and the module’s stated model or part number.
- Write down whether the module reaches the grooves, clicks, and locks under normal hand pressure.
- For drift, note whether it occurs in more than one game, immediately after startup, and after reseating, reset, and updates.
- Keep proof of purchase and the original packaging until the return period or repair decision ends.
Describe observable facts—“the slide stops before the click” or “the right stick moves upward in two games after reset”—rather than asserting that the module is fake. That gives the seller or repair service a precise failure to evaluate.

When Sony repair is the appropriate next step
Use PlayStation Support when the controller itself may be damaged, when a confirmed-compatible module will not engage, or when drift persists after correct seating, reset, and software updates. Sony’s support route is available at playstation.com/en-us/support/hardware/accessories/. For information about repair options for devices with physical or cosmetic damage, Sony also publishes Repair Options for Devices with Physical or Cosmetic Damage; eligibility, region, warranty status, and fees can vary.
If the module came from a marketplace seller, pursue the seller’s return or exchange in parallel with support guidance. Do not send away the controller or module without understanding which item the service request covers and whether the seller requires the original packaging.
