Your next step depends on what happened after the post appeared. Seeing a suspicious link is not proof that the server, your device, or your wallet is compromised. Use the response branch below that matches the action you actually took.

First, stop interacting with the post
Leave the link untouched. A shortened or convincing-looking address can conceal an unsafe destination, so its appearance is not evidence that it is legitimate. Discord’s safety guidance warns against suspicious links, unfamiliar downloads, unknown code and sharing authorization tokens. Read its current advice at Protecting Against Scams on Discord.

- Do not sign a message, mint, claim, or “verification” request.
- Do not paste JavaScript, a command, or code into a browser, terminal, or wallet.
- Do not download a “security tool,” browser extension, game, or update offered by the page.
- Do not scan an unfamiliar QR code.
- Never provide a Discord password, account token, two-factor code, private key, or wallet recovery phrase.
Do not repost the live URL in another channel while warning people. Quote enough of the message for moderators to find it, but avoid creating more opportunities for someone to click.

Report the Discord message and alert moderators
Use Discord’s in-app report flow
Open the message menu on desktop, or press and hold the message on mobile, then choose Report Message and the closest policy category. Discord’s Safety Library explains message reporting, contacting moderators and copying a message link. Labels can change as Discord updates its controls, so use the report option currently shown in your app.
- Open the message’s menu without opening its link.
- Select Report Message.
- Choose the category that best describes the post, such as scam, phishing or deceptive activity.
- Submit the report and retain the message link or message ID if Discord displays it.
Give moderators useful, safe details
Send the server’s moderators the message link, channel name, poster’s username and the time it appeared. They can remove the post, warn members and check whether the account or bot is recognized. A suspicious post does not by itself prove that the entire server or every account in it was taken over; moderators should investigate rather than assume.
Discord’s Deceptive Practices Policy Explainer, identified as version dated August 29, 2025, describes financial scams and phishing as prohibited deceptive practices. Policy wording and reporting controls may change, so follow the live in-app options.
Verify claimed official messages safely
Scammers often imitate Discord, a wallet provider, an exchange or an event organizer. Go to the claimed service through its official app, a bookmark you created previously, or an address you type yourself. Do not use the suspicious post to “verify” the alert.

Discord states: “Discord will never ask you for your password or account token.” Its Discord Official Messages guidance says genuine platform messages carry an OFFICIAL badge and in-app indicators. A direct message offering urgent account recovery, a reward or moderator assistance is not a safe substitute for the official support route.
If you clicked but did nothing else
Close the page and stop following its prompts. Do not install anything, run code, connect a wallet, sign a message, or contact a “support” account suggested by the page. A click alone does not establish that your Discord account or wallet was compromised; the available guidance does not support diagnosing compromise solely from opening a page.

- You entered a password, token, recovery phrase, private key or authentication code.
- You connected a wallet.
- You signed a transaction, message or token approval.
Report the original post even if you closed it immediately. If you downloaded or installed software, use the operating system’s normal security and removal procedures and seek help from the software maker’s official support channel; do not use a phone number or chat link supplied by the suspicious page.

If you entered a Discord password or account details
- Open Discord directly through the official app or by entering the known address yourself.
- Change the Discord password immediately.
- Enable two-factor authentication in Discord’s official security settings.
- Review account activity and connected applications from those settings and remove anything you do not recognize.
- Change the same password anywhere else you reused it, using each service’s official site.
- Report the original message and the account that posted it.
Discord recommends two-factor authentication and warns that it will not ask for your password or account token. Do not trust a new direct message promising to “recover,” “protect” or “verify” the account. If you supplied a token or authentication code, treat it as exposed and complete the official account-security steps without waiting for another message.
If you connected a wallet
A connection is not automatically a token-spending approval. MetaMask explains in Why am I being asked to connect my wallet to a dapp? that a connected site can see the public address and public blockchain information. Moving tokens normally requires a separate approval or transaction.
Disconnect the site through the wallet’s official interface
Open the wallet app or extension yourself, review connected sites and disconnect the suspicious dapp. Do not use a button on the suspicious page to do this. Then inspect the wallet activity for any signature or transaction you may have accepted.
Check approvals separately
A connection and a token approval are different permissions. MetaMask’s token approval guidance explains that an approval can let a dapp move a specified token. Its wallet-disconnection guidance warns that disconnecting does not revoke existing approvals.

Use the wallet’s official approval-management tools to review and revoke an approval you determine is malicious. A revocation is itself an on-chain transaction and may require network fees; confirm the contract and token carefully in the wallet’s own interface before signing. If you are unsure which approval is harmful, stop and consult the wallet provider’s official support documentation rather than a stranger in Discord.
If you signed a transaction or message
Do not sign anything else. Open the wallet’s official transaction history or reach a reputable block explorer independently by typing its known address or using a trusted bookmark. Record the transaction hash, destination address, token, network and time. These details help the wallet provider, an exchange or an authority investigate.
A signed transaction may have transferred assets, granted an approval or authorized another action. Check the result on the relevant network. If funds moved, contact the wallet provider and any exchange involved through their official support route. MetaMask’s hacked-or-scammed guidance states that it cannot reverse transactions or restore missing funds, so treat anyone promising a guaranteed reversal as another scam.
If you disclosed a recovery phrase or private key
Treat every account derived from that phrase or key as compromised. Never share the phrase again, including with someone claiming to be wallet support. Anyone who has it can control the associated assets; changing a password does not make the exposed phrase safe.
- Stop using the compromised wallet for new deposits or signatures.
- Create a new wallet in a separate browser profile or on another device, following the wallet provider’s official instructions.
- If it is safe to do so, move remaining assets to the new wallet. Verify the destination address on the device before confirming.
- Stop using all accounts derived from the exposed phrase.
- Preserve transaction IDs and screenshots, but never include the phrase, private key or authentication codes in evidence.
MetaMask gives this response in its compromised-wallet guidance and notes that recovery of missing funds is not available from MetaMask. Wallet interfaces and chain-specific procedures differ, so use the documentation for the wallet you actually use.
Choose the response that matches what happened

Report losses and preserve evidence
If money or cryptocurrency was lost, report the incident to the wallet or exchange through its official support channel and to the appropriate authority in your country. In the United States, the Federal Trade Commission directs consumers to its cryptocurrency-scam guidance and ReportFraud.ftc.gov for cryptocurrency fraud and suspicious activity.
Keep the Discord message link, screenshots, usernames, wallet addresses, network name, transaction hashes, dates and amounts. Store this information privately. Do not publish passwords, recovery phrases, private keys, seed words or two-factor codes as “proof.” The FTC’s phishing guidance also recommends avoiding links in suspicious messages and using independently verified contact routes.

What not to do after the incident
- Do not pay a stranger or “recovery company” that guarantees the return of funds.
- Do not give remote access to your computer or wallet.
- Do not keep signing prompts to see whether a claim “works.”
- Do not assume disconnecting a wallet erased approvals.
- Do not infer that everyone in the server is malicious because one post was suspicious.
- Do not delay password changes while waiting for a moderator’s reply.
The safest sequence is simple: stop interacting, report the message, verify through official channels, then secure the specific account, permission or wallet secret that was actually exposed.
