Do not buy the movie again yet. First identify the storefront that charged you, sign in to the exact account used for payment, and open that service’s purchase library—not its subscription catalog. A missing title is usually an account, library-location, hidden-item, device, eligibility, or country issue. The recovery path depends on whether the transaction was made through Apple, Prime Video, Google TV/YouTube, or another retailer.
1. Find the transaction before troubleshooting the app
Start with evidence of where the purchase happened. Search your email for a receipt or order confirmation, then check the transaction description on your bank or card statement. If you use several storefronts, inspect each service’s order history. A movie appearing in a subscription catalog does not prove that you bought it; Apple says subscription and channel titles do not appear in its purchase list.

Record the title exactly as it appears on the receipt, the transaction date, order number, currency, country, and the email address or account identifier shown on the receipt. This prevents you from troubleshooting the wrong service or profile.
2. Confirm the account, profile, and family access
Use the account that paid
Sign out only if necessary. First inspect the email address or account name currently active in the app. Google’s guidance is explicit: on every platform, sign in to the same account used for the purchase. A second Google account, Apple Account, or retailer login can have an empty library even when the payment succeeded.

Check another Apple Account
Apple says a missing item in purchase history may have been bought with another Apple Account. If your receipt uses a different address, switch to that account and review its purchase history rather than attempting another purchase.
Check family purchases
If the movie was bought by a family member, use the service’s family-sharing view or select that family member where the platform provides the option. On Apple, a family member’s purchase can be available through Family Sharing without appearing in your individual purchase list.
3. Open the correct purchase library

Do not rely on a home-screen row such as “Continue watching.” Open the dedicated purchase area, clear any genre or unwatched filters, and search for the title there.

4. Apple: resolve a title that shows “Buy”
Try Play from the More menu
Apple’s March 25, 2025 guidance covers iPhone and iPad running iOS or iPadOS 18.0 and Apple Vision Pro running visionOS 2.0. If a movie you already purchased appears to offer a Buy button, open the item from Library, choose More, and select Play. This can bypass a page that incorrectly presents the purchase option again.

Check purchase history and hidden items
Open Apple purchase history and search for the movie. If the transaction is listed, inspect hidden purchases and unhide the title if necessary. If the title is in history but still cannot be redownloaded, Apple directs customers to report the problem rather than paying a second time.
Use the device-appropriate playback method
Apple’s redownload process differs by device. iPhone, iPad, Mac, and PC support download flows. Apple TV 4K, Apple TV HD, smart televisions, and other streaming devices in Apple’s guide stream purchased movies but do not download them locally. A missing download button on those devices is therefore expected; check Library and stream the item instead.
5. Prime Video: check Purchases & Rentals and country status
Open the dedicated section
Amazon states that movies bought or rented on Prime Video are available on PrimeVideo.com and in the Prime Video app under Purchases & Rentals. If the title is absent there, verify the active Amazon account and marketplace before changing app settings.

Distinguish travel from a country change
Amazon warns that changing the home billing address or the country of a Prime subscription can make previous purchases or rentals inaccessible in some cases. This is different from ordinary international travel when your residence and subscription country remain unchanged. If you moved, changed the account’s country, or subscribed through another marketplace, contact Prime Video customer service for that marketplace and explain the change.

The help page used for this guidance displayed a Filipino locale, so account-specific instructions can vary by marketplace. Use the customer-service route shown after signing in to the country that processed the payment.
6. Google TV and YouTube: use the same Google account on every device
Check each supported surface
Purchases made through an Android TV device, Google TV device, the Google TV Android app, or YouTube are added to the purchasing Google account’s Library. Check the Google TV mobile app, YouTube’s Movies & TV or Purchased area, a Google TV device’s Library, and—where offered—Android TV’s Shop > Your Library. On compatible smart televisions, open the YouTube library and look for purchased content.
Exact menu names vary with device model, app version, and region. If the title appears on one supported surface but not another, update the app, verify the account shown on both devices, and retry from the purchase library rather than the subscription home page.

Google’s help page says the legacy Google Play Movies and TV tab is US-only. Google continues movie buying and renting through Google TV and YouTube, so an absent legacy tab does not mean the purchase was deleted. Use Library in Google TV or the purchased-movie area in YouTube.

7. Movies Anywhere is a conditional second library
Movies Anywhere can provide another place to find an eligible purchase, but it is not a universal backup. Google’s guide specifies eligible titles in the United States and requires connecting the relevant Google and retailer accounts. In Movies Anywhere, open My Movies after the accounts are connected.
Do not assume that every movie, retailer, or country will synchronize. Eligibility rules can exclude a title or storefront. The Movies Anywhere help center lists support topics for a missing movie and for connecting or disconnecting a digital retailer; use that support route when the title is absent from My Movies instead of assuming that a refresh or reset will fix it.

A device-specific display problem can hide a valid purchase. After confirming the account, open the library on another supported surface: for example, Google TV mobile instead of a television app, YouTube on the web instead of a smart-TV client, or Apple TV Library on a Mac instead of a streaming box. Google documents support across Google TV mobile, YouTube, Google TV devices, Android TV, and compatible smart-TV YouTube access, although the navigation differs.
Capture the app name and version, operating-system version, device model, and country setting while testing. These details help support distinguish an entitlement problem from a local app problem.
9. Use a decision path for the most common symptoms

10. Escalate with a complete evidence packet
Contact the storefront that processed the payment, not a different service where you expected the movie to appear. Include:
- Movie title and edition, if shown on the receipt.
- Transaction date, amount, currency, and order or invoice number.
- Email address or account identifier used for the purchase.
- Country or marketplace associated with the account and any recent country change.
- Device model, operating-system version, app version, and whether the issue occurs on another supported device.
- A screenshot showing the missing library entry or a Buy button on a title you believe you own.
Apple specifically says to report a problem when purchase history contains the item but redownloading fails. For Prime Video, explain any move or billing-country change. For Google, state which account was checked and which Library surfaces were tested. These details reduce back-and-forth and help support locate the entitlement.
11. What not to do
- Do not repurchase the movie while the original transaction is unresolved; you could pay twice.
- Do not infer ownership from a subscription or channel listing.
- Do not change your country merely to make a library appear; country changes can create additional access restrictions.
- Do not assume that a missing download option means a purchase is gone when the device is designed to stream only.
- Do not treat Movies Anywhere as guaranteed synchronization for every title or retailer.
12. When the title still cannot be found
If the receipt identifies a storefront but none of its supported libraries shows the movie, keep the transaction evidence and escalate to that storefront. State that the payment completed, identify the exact account and country, and ask support to verify the purchase entitlement. If no receipt or payment record exists, the title may never have been purchased directly, or the charge may have been processed by a different provider. Resolve that uncertainty before buying again.
