Compare similar days, app and system activity, background use, signal conditions, software setup timing, and Battery Health before deciding the iPhone 18 Pro has a persistent problem. A percentage comparison by itself cannot show whether the phones had comparable workloads.
Compare battery use on similar days
On each iPhone, open Settings > Battery. Review Daily Usage to see whether that day’s use is higher, similar to, or lower than the phone’s recent pattern. Tap View All Battery Usage to see more days and details.

Choose days with roughly similar screen time, apps, and tasks. A day of navigation, streaming, camera use, or hotspot use on one phone is not comparable with a lighter day on the other. Apple says runtime varies with usage, configuration, cellular network, signal strength, and other factors.
Find which apps or system activity used the charge
In Battery, review App and System Activity Usage and tap entries for more detail. iOS distinguishes on-screen use from background activity and may identify notifications or cellular coverage as contributors. Background tasks can include directions, music playback, photo syncing, and mail fetching.

If one app stands out, check how you use it and review its background or location behavior. That is a more targeted first step than resetting settings or disabling features across the whole phone.
Check whether setup or an update is still running
If the faster drain began after migrating data, setting up the phone, or installing iOS, look in Battery for an Insight such as Ongoing Device Setup or Ongoing iOS Update. Some setup and update work continues after the phone is usable. Apple advises waiting a few days after an update, then checking Battery again. This can explain temporary drain, but it does not guarantee that every case will resolve without further action.
Compare signal, network, and screen settings
Apple identifies No Mobile Coverage and Low Signal as conditions that can increase battery use. Compare the phones in similar places and on similar cellular conditions; a weak-signal commute on one phone can skew the comparison. Apple also notes that 5G Auto can switch to LTE when 5G does not provide a noticeably better experience.

High screen brightness also consumes significant energy. If Battery identifies brightness or screen settings as relevant, consider Auto-Brightness or Auto-Lock. Change one factor at a time so you can tell whether it makes a difference.
Review Power Mode and Adaptive Power
On iOS 26 or later, Apple lists iPhone 18 Pro models and iPhone 16 models as compatible with Adaptive Power. Find the setting at Settings > Battery > Power Mode. Adaptive Power is off by default on iPhone 16 models, and Apple says it needs at least seven days to learn charging habits. Its adjustments can include slightly reducing brightness, limiting background activity, and enabling Low Power Mode at 20%.
Adaptive Power is not a guaranteed fix or proof that a phone is defective. If you use it as part of the comparison, check whether it is enabled on each phone and allow for the learning period.

Low Power Mode is another temporary way to extend a charge. Apple says it reduces or disables some features, including Mail fetch, Hey Siri, Background App Refresh, and some visual effects. Because those changes affect phone behavior, note when it is on while comparing the devices.
Read Battery Health and decide when to seek service
On iPhone 15 and later, go to Settings > Battery > Battery Health. Apple says this screen can show battery health, cycle count, manufacture date, and first-use date. Compare the health information alongside usage; charge percentage alone does not describe battery condition.
If Battery Health displays Service, Apple advises considering battery service. If the drain remains unexplained after you have checked usage and temporary setup activity, contact Apple or an Apple Authorized Service Provider. Apple says iPhone batteries should be serviced or recycled by Apple or an Apple Authorized Service Provider.

What the model comparison can—and cannot—tell you
Apple’s iPhone 18 Pro specifications describe manufacturer testing conducted in July 2026 with preproduction iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max units and software. That context is not a controlled comparison of your two phones or their current workloads. The specifications also caution that actual battery life varies with use and conditions.
The Apple guidance cited here does not establish a specific iPhone 18 Pro battery defect, repair program, or universal runtime advantage over iPhone 16 Pro. Diagnose the individual phones using their Battery screens and health information rather than inferring a defect from the model names.
