Do not choose a car because its brand advertises AirConsole. Eligibility depends on the exact model year, infotainment operating system, software or service pack, connected-services package, delivery country and sometimes the vehicle’s app-store catalogue. Before signing a purchase or lease, ask the seller to show AirConsole in that specific car’s infotainment system, confirm every required subscription, and check where the game can be used safely.
AirConsole turns the vehicle display into a game screen and uses players’ smartphones as controllers. The setup normally involves scanning a QR code or entering a connection code shown on the car screen. BMW says its version supports up to seven players, but the available games and player experience can vary by vehicle configuration and country.

Start with the exact vehicle, not the badge
AirConsole’s compatibility is configuration-specific. Its support overview, updated August 11, 2026, warns that the game portfolio can change with the vehicle model, operating system or software level, infotainment package, subscriptions or licenses, and country. A model appearing on an official list therefore does not guarantee that every trim, model year or used example works.
Use the vehicle identification number or build sheet when possible. Ask the dealer to identify the installed infotainment system, software version, connected-service status and country-market specification. Then open the live infotainment interface and look for AirConsole or the relevant app store rather than relying on a brochure or an online vehicle configurator.

The six checks that decide eligibility
- Model and model year: match the complete designation, including body style and generation.
- Infotainment operating system: record the exact BMW OS, Volkswagen software level, or other platform named for that vehicle.
- Software or service pack: some entries specify a minimum software release or a particular service pack.
- Connected package or license: an active subscription such as VW Connect Plus, BMW Digital Premium or a Media Streaming license may be required.
- Country: app stores, subscriptions and game catalogues are market-dependent.
- Display and safety rules: determine whether games appear on the front display, a rear screen, or both, and when the vehicle must be stationary.
Which cars are listed as supporting AirConsole?
The following are the models named in AirConsole’s current support overview. Treat the table as a shortlist for verification, not as a blanket approval for every vehicle carrying the same name.

BMW: check the operating system and connected service separately
BMW is the clearest example of why a badge-level claim is insufficient. AirConsole’s overview refers to select BMW vehicles running BMW OS 8.5 with Service Pack 21, OS 9 or OS 10. BMW’s United States FAQ uses slightly different wording—OS 8.5 with service pack 2021 and OS 9 with BMW Digital Premium—while BMW ConnectedDrive terms for Great Britain describe the service dependencies in more detail. These labels are market-specific, so use the car’s own software screen and the terms for the country where it will be registered.

BMW’s terms specifically say that AirConsole is unavailable on 2 Series Coupé, 3 Series and 4 Series vehicles equipped with OS 8.5. Do not assume that a later software update, a different body style or a neighboring model has the same result; have the seller demonstrate the application in the actual vehicle.

BMW display and player limits
BMW’s AirConsole version can support up to seven players. The first person to connect becomes the main controller and selects games. This is a capability statement, not a guarantee that every game accepts seven simultaneous players.

Volkswagen and Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles: package status matters
For the Volkswagen passenger-car models in AirConsole’s list—Golf, T-Roc, Tiguan, Tayron, Passat Variant, ID.3, ID.4, ID.5, ID.7 and ID.7 Tourer—the listed requirement is an active VW Connect Plus service. Ask whether the service is included for a trial period, whether it transfers to a second owner, and what renewal is required in your country. AirConsole also publishes a country list; a qualifying vehicle imported from another market may not have the same catalogue or service access.
The commercial-vehicle entries add an infotainment threshold and date qualifications:
- T7 Multivan and New California: vehicles from July 2024 are listed.
- Caddy: vehicles from May 2024 are listed.
- Crafter and Grand California: vehicles from June 2024 are listed.
- ID. Buzz and ID. Buzz Cargo: vehicles with Software 5.x from June 2024 are listed.
These entries require at least Ready2Discover infotainment as well as active VW Connect Plus. A used vehicle may have the right model and date but lack the required hardware, software update or currently active service, so inspect its system rather than inferring eligibility from registration year.

Audi
AirConsole lists the Audi Q3 for model year 2026, Q5 for model year 2025, Q6 e-tron, A5 (B10) for model year 2025, A6 (C9) for model year 2026 and A6 e-tron. The application is offered through the Audi Application Store in the countries specified by AirConsole. Verify both the model-year designation and that the Application Store is present and able to install the game in the delivery market.

Porsche
The listed Porsche vehicle is the Macan Electric, with AirConsole accessed through the Porsche App Center. Confirm that the particular battery, market and infotainment configuration has the App Center and a data connection before treating the feature as included.
Škoda
AirConsole lists Enyaq and Elroq vehicles with software version 4.x or 5.x and an active Media Streaming package license. Have the seller display the software version and show the license status. A car that has not received the required update, or whose package has expired, may not expose AirConsole even though its model name appears on the support page.
How to verify a candidate car before paying
- Write down the full specification. Record model, body style, model year, trim, market of delivery, VIN and the infotainment hardware.
- Open the live system. In the parked vehicle, open the entertainment package, vehicle app store or application list and search for “AirConsole.” Do not accept a screenshot from another trim as proof.
- Read the software screen. Capture the operating-system name and version, service pack or software release. Compare it with the requirement for that model.
- Check the service page. Confirm whether BMW Digital Premium, ConnectedDrive Professional, VW Connect Plus, a Media Streaming package or another named license is active. Ask for the end date of any trial.
- Check the country and account. Confirm that the car will be registered in a country where AirConsole and the required app store or service are offered. Imported cars can have different catalogues.
- Test the app installation or launch. If permitted, open AirConsole and wait for the pairing screen. An app icon that cannot connect or update is not a successful verification.
- Get the condition in writing. Put the required software, subscription and feature availability on the order or lease documentation, especially for a used vehicle.
What setup looks like after delivery
AirConsole’s instructions say to open a game from the car’s entertainment package or search the infotainment interface for AirConsole. The display then shows a QR code and a connection code. Each player scans the QR code with a phone or enters the code on the phone, joins the lobby and selects a game. The cited instructions do not require a new phone, a special controller or an accessory.

In the BMW/MINI guide, the first connected player becomes the main controller and chooses games. Because the game catalogue can differ by model and country, a game available in one vehicle should not be assumed to appear in another.

Safety: front-screen play is not a driving feature
AirConsole’s BMW/MINI guide says the feature can be used only while the vehicle is parked. BMW’s safety FAQ states that play on the front Curved Display is possible only when the vehicle is stationary. BMW separately supports rear Theater Screen use while driving in vehicles with OS X. That exception applies to the rear screen in eligible BMWs; it does not make front-display play safe or legal while moving, and it should not be generalized to other brands.
Before purchase, ask where the games are displayed and what interlocks disable them. Plan to play while parked in a safe location, not during a traffic stop in a live lane or while the driver is expected to monitor traffic.

Common buying mistakes and fixes
Relying on the brand name
Symptom: a salesperson says the automaker supports AirConsole, but the app is absent. Fix: verify the exact model, OS, package and market in the live system.

Confusing registration year with model year or software date
Symptom: a vehicle registered in 2025 does not meet a model-year or software requirement. Fix: use the build sheet and infotainment version; commercial-vehicle entries use specific dates such as July 2024, May 2024 and June 2024.
Ignoring the subscription after a trial
Symptom: AirConsole works during delivery but disappears when a connected package ends. Fix: record the renewal product, price as quoted for your market, renewal date and whether the service can be reactivated by a second owner.
Assuming an imported car has local access
Symptom: the model is listed, but the local app store or catalogue is unavailable. Fix: verify the registration country, account region and connected-service eligibility before paying.
Expecting play while moving
Symptom: the front display disables games once the vehicle moves. Fix: treat front-screen AirConsole as a parked-vehicle feature. Only the specifically documented BMW OS X rear Theater Screen arrangement has a separate in-motion provision.
Bottom line for a purchase decision
Choose the car only after you have confirmed five things in the actual vehicle: the precise model and year, the installed infotainment software, the required active package or license, country availability, and the display’s stationary-use behavior. AirConsole can be a useful passenger and parked-car feature, but it is not a universal trim-level guarantee. A live demonstration and written confirmation of the ongoing service requirement are more reliable than a model name, a generic advertisement or an icon shown in a different market.
