Before buying Tractor Supply Company (NASDAQ: TSCO) for its dividend, check more than its record of annual increases: verify the declared payment, test it against earnings and cash flow, review debt and current business guidance, then judge the yield and valuation using a current share price. The company declared a $0.24 quarterly dividend in February 2026, but its July 2026 earnings outlook was lower than its initial forecast. Neither the dividend history nor a payout calculation guarantees future payments.

What dividend does Tractor Supply pay?

On February 11, 2026, Tractor Supply announced a quarterly dividend of $0.24 per share, up $0.04, or 4.3%, from the prior rate. The company said this was its 17th consecutive year of annual dividend increases. At that rate, four quarterly payments would total $0.96 per share over a year. That is an annualized figure, not a promise that all four future payments will be made. The announcement specified a March 10, 2026 payment to shareholders of record on February 24, 2026. How does the dividend compare with earnings?

Start with earnings, but distinguish a simple per-share comparison from the company’s reported payout ratio. Tractor Supply reported fiscal 2025 diluted earnings per share of $2.06 and net income of about $1.10 billion. Dividing the $0.96 annualized 2026 dividend rate by that past-year EPS gives approximately 46.6%. This is an illustrative calculation using a declared annual rate and historical diluted EPS—not the reported payout ratio, which compares total dividends paid with net earnings, and not a forecast of future coverage. Dividend declaration; FY2025 results, released January 29, 2026

The outlook changed after those results. In January 2026, the company initially projected FY2026 diluted EPS of $2.13–$2.23. Following its second-quarter results, it lowered that guidance in July to $1.78–$1.88; adjusted EPS guidance was $1.90–$2.00. If the $0.96 annualized dividend rate stayed unchanged, it would equal about 51.1%–53.9% of the revised diluted EPS range. That is arithmetic from the announced rate and company guidance, not a company-stated payout target or assurance that the rate will continue. Does cash flow support the dividend after investment?

Earnings alone do not show whether the business generated cash after funding its operations and stores. For the six months ended June 27, 2026, Tractor Supply reported $653.136 million in operating cash flow and $435.713 million in capital expenditures, leaving about $217.4 million before other investing and financing items. Inventory consumed $429.655 million of cash during the period. These interim figures help frame the cash-flow question, but they do not establish full-year dividend coverage; compare them with cash dividends actually paid over a matching period and account for seasonal working-capital changes. SEC-filed company exhibit, July 23, 2026

At June 27, 2026, the company reported $231.588 million in cash and equivalents and $2.154 billion in long-term debt. Consider debt and its interest burden alongside capital spending needs and cash generation, rather than treating a single half-year cash-flow balance as a complete solvency assessment. What do recent operating results say about dividend risk?

In Q2 2026, net sales rose 2.3% year over year to $4.54 billion, while comparable store sales fell 1.5%. Operating income declined 19.2%, net income fell 16.1%, and diluted EPS decreased 14.9%. The company cited seasonal and discretionary weakness, Petsense restructuring and impairment, and VIP Petcare acquisition costs. It also withdrew its previous long-term financial framework as it revised near-term guidance. These mixed results matter because dividend capacity depends on the earnings and cash produced by the business, not just its sales total. Tractor Supply Q2 2026 results, July 23, 2026

The company’s CEO, Hal Lawton, said in the July release that “Our core customer remains highly engaged, our needs-based businesses continue to perform well, and our competitive position remains strong.” Treat that as management’s characterization, and weigh it alongside the reported sales, margins, earnings, and updated outlook. Why does the 2024-to-2025 dividend look smaller?

Tractor Supply’s five-for-one stock split took effect December 20, 2024. Its investor FAQ lists a $1.10 quarterly dividend for 2024 and $0.22 for 2025 before the later increase to $0.23. Those figures are on different share bases; the apparent drop does not represent an 80% dividend cut. Tractor Supply investor FAQ

How should you assess TSCO’s yield and valuation?

Calculate an indicated yield only from the annualized declared dividend rate and a share price with a clear quote date: annualized dividend per share ÷ share price. No current share price is established here, so a current yield, price-to-earnings multiple, or buy/sell valuation judgment cannot be stated from these figures alone. A yield can rise because the share price falls, which may reflect greater business risk rather than a more attractive dividend.

For a useful comparison with another income investment or retailer, align the measurement date and definitions. Review:

  • Indicated yield based on the same date’s share price and declared dividend rate.
  • Trailing and forward earnings payout, with the dividend and earnings measures defined.
  • Operating cash flow less capital expenditures compared with cash dividends paid over matching periods.
  • Debt, interest burden, and the capital spending the business needs.
  • Dividend growth rate and length of the uninterrupted increase record.
  • Earnings outlook, comparable sales, margins, and exposure to discretionary categories.
  • Valuation multiples against TSCO’s own history and appropriate retail peers.

Refresh the quote and the latest company filings before making a price-based comparison. The latest results described here are Q2 2026, for the period ended June 27, 2026; they do not establish what happened in the subsequent quarter.

What does the dividend record establish—and what does it not?

The 17-year run of annual increases is relevant evidence of past dividend policy, and the February 2026 declaration confirms the rate then announced. Neither fact makes future income certain. Tractor Supply’s changing earnings outlook is a reason to keep monitoring performance, cash generation, investment needs, and future board declarations. The company also cautions in its releases that forward-looking statements face risks and actual outcomes may differ. Dividend announcement; Q2 2026 results
