1Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute2Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors3Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesBefore buying shares in an early-stage gold explorer, check what its technical reports actually establish, what rights it holds over the project, which approvals and community relationships its work depends on, and whether its funding plan covers the next work program. Exploration results, resources, reserves and economic studies are different levels of evidence; none alone guarantees a mine or a return.
What should I check before buying shares in a gold exploration company?
Start with the issuer’s newest regulatory filings and the latest technical report for the specific project—not just an investor presentation or a summary of headline results. Confirm each document’s date, project name, authors and jurisdiction. Then work through four questions: what is known about the geology, what rights the company controls, what work it can legally and practically do, and how it expects to pay for that work.

- Find the most recent technical disclosure. Read the report’s effective date, limitations and assumptions as well as its headline grades, ounces or targets. Distinguish verified results from interpretations, historical estimates, exploration targets and study assumptions.
- Trace project rights and obligations. Check claims or leases, surface access, royalties, options, third-party interests and required consents in both filings and technical reports.
- Map approvals and local dependencies. Identify permits already in place, approvals still needed, environmental baseline work, and the status of engagement with local and Indigenous communities.
- Compare the planned work with funding. Set the company’s stated next program and expected costs against reported cash, obligations and financing assumptions. Review its financing history and securities that could increase the share count.
- Revisit the picture when it changes. A financing, new technical report, permit decision or revised work plan can alter the balance of evidence, control and funding.
What does a mineral resource mean, and is it a reserve?
No. Exploration results, mineral resources, mineral reserves and preliminary economic assessments (PEAs) are distinct kinds of disclosure, not interchangeable labels for a proven mine.

|---|---|---|
| Exploration results | Reported observations or assays from exploration work. | They do not, by themselves, establish a mineral resource or economically mineable deposit. |
| Mineral resource | A reported estimate of mineralization at a stated confidence level. | An inferred resource is too speculative for economic considerations that would categorize it as a reserve. |
| Mineral reserve | A separate, more advanced classification than a resource. | A project report that says no reserves have been established should not be described as having reserves. |
| Preliminary economic assessment | An early study of a project’s potential under stated assumptions. | It is not certainty that the project will be realized or become a mine. |
For example, the March 2026 Moss Gold Project technical report states that the project had no mineral reserves. It says inferred resources are too speculative for economic considerations that would categorize them as reserves, and cautions that the PEA has no certainty of realization. Those are findings about Moss, not a description of every exploration company. Read the Moss Gold Project report.

- 12" POCKET SLUICE BOX WITH MINERS MOSS: A rubber riffle mat and miners moss trap heavy gold in a sluice small enough to carry anywhere. Use it to sample-test a gravel bar before hauling in big gear, clean up concentrates at home, or show kids how a sluice works.
- PATENTED SPIRAL RIFFLE GOLD PANS (US 12,582,996): Deep-walled 9" and 11" pans built like a classic prospector's pan, not a shallow dish. Aggressive riffles knock out light material fast, and the spiral riffles hold the fine flakes that flat-bottom pans wash away during finish panning.
- 35 LB RARE EARTH MAGNET, SNUFFER BOTTLE & MAGNIFIER TWEEZERS: The HUNTLEY sweeper wand's 35 lb rare earth magnet pulls black sand from your concentrates, the snuffer bottle vacuums gold flakes off the pan, and stainless magnifier tweezers let you spot and pick out flakes too small to grab by hand. Three glass gold vials hold the day's take.
- DESIGNED BY KEYESVILLE, CALIFORNIA PROSPECTORS: Sluice Fox kits are designed by prospectors who learned to pan in historic Keyesville, in California's Kern River gold country, and assembled in our own warehouses near the Sierra and Appalachian mountains. A gift that gets a family outdoors, from a brand that has been in the creek, not just a catalog.
When evaluating another issuer, note the classification, confidence level, effective date and limitations attached to its figures. Do not treat a target, a historical estimate or a study scenario as equivalent to a current resource or reserve.
How do I know if a junior gold company actually owns its claims?
A project name or company presentation does not prove that the issuer owns every relevant right, or that its interest is free of obligations. Review the company’s filings and project technical report for the specific rights and interests disclosed.

- Mineral tenure: Determine whether the company reports ownership, leases, options or another interest in the claims, and check for conditions or third-party interests.
- Surface rights and access: Mineral rights and surface access are not the same thing. Identify who controls the land surface and what access arrangements the company says it has.
- Royalties and other burdens: Look for royalty interests and obligations that may apply to production or future project activity.
- Consents and counterparties: Note any required government or third-party approvals, agreements or consents.
The Moss technical report, for instance, describes tenure and surface rights spanning Crown and Inuit Owned Land, along with several royalty interests. It illustrates why “the company owns the project” can omit important details; it does not establish the rights held by another issuer. Verify the relevant claims and rights in the project’s jurisdiction. See the Moss report’s tenure and surface-rights discussion.

Check for current exploration permissions, pending approvals, environmental baseline studies, unresolved environmental issues, and the company’s account of local and Indigenous engagement or agreements. A technical report for Moss anticipates federal and provincial environmental assessment and a suite of permits for later project stages; this describes that project’s anticipated path, not a universal permitting sequence. The Moss report discusses anticipated assessments and permits.
Missing required approvals can curtail or prohibit planned activity, as an issuer filing warns. Treat permitting as a dependency of the work plan, not as a box checked merely because exploration has occurred. Review the cited issuer’s permit-risk disclosure.

How can I tell whether a gold explorer has enough cash?
There is no universal cash-runway threshold established for all explorers. Instead, compare the latest reported cash and near-term obligations with the company’s next stated program and its expected costs. Check whether management’s plan depends on financing that has not yet been secured.
- Read the newest financial statements and filings for cash, liabilities and any stated funding assumptions.
- Compare the announced work program with the company’s available funds and expected costs; note what work may be delayed or reduced if financing does not arrive.
- Review financing history and potentially dilutive securities, including warrants or other instruments that could expand the share count.
- Recheck funding after each financing or material filing, since the cash position and share count can change.
SEC-filed issuer disclosures describe uncertainty about access to capital and warn that equity financing may substantially dilute existing shareholders. These are issuer-specific risk statements, not a forecast of what any unnamed company will raise or a standard runway measure. Read the cited exploration-risk disclosure and the cited financing disclosure.

How should I compare early-stage gold explorers?
Compare companies on the same dimensions rather than ranking them by headline ounces, grades or share prices alone. A project with a more advanced technical study may still face different rights, permitting, infrastructure or financing constraints than another project.
| Comparison area | Questions to ask |
|---|---|
| Evidence maturity and technical confidence | Are disclosures exploration results, a resource, a reserve or a study? What confidence level, effective date and limitations apply? |
| Rights and royalties | What mineral and surface rights does the issuer report? Are leases, options, royalties or third-party interests involved? |
| Jurisdiction and project dependencies | What approvals, access, infrastructure and community conditions shape the work plan? |
| Funding and dilution | Does the stated funding plan appear aligned with the next program and obligations? Could additional financing dilute shareholders? |
| Commodity and capital-market exposure | How dependent is the project plan on gold prices or future access to capital? |
What exploration risk remains after a promising result?
Drilling or other exploration results do not by themselves prove that a deposit can be mined economically. Viability also depends on deposit characteristics, infrastructure, permits, capital, commodity prices and further technical work. The cited issuer disclosures describe exploration as speculative and financing as uncertain; early-stage shares can be volatile and may lose value. These risks are reasons to examine the issuer’s actual disclosures, not grounds for assuming that every explorer has the same prospects.
For any specific investment, use the issuer’s latest filings and applicable regulator records, and check the technical report’s effective date and the rules in the project’s jurisdiction. A report about one project is an example of the questions to ask, not evidence of another company’s current position.
