Choose Standard or boxed when
- You want a physical purchase and do not need the Deluxe digital items.

Choose Digital Deluxe when

Nintendo says the digital art book and mini soundtrack are opened through a browser-based Square Enix Digital Content Viewer. The viewer is available from release day, and Nintendo notes that the digital items may later be sold separately. Check the current regional listing before buying so you do not pay twice for content you already own.
How much storage does the game need?
Plan for a very large installation. Nintendo of America’s 2026 product listing states 91.5 GB. Nintendo Australia’s eShop also states 91.5 GB of required space and warns that more or less space may be needed; a separate Australian game page lists a 91.7 GB file size. These are regional listing values, not evidence that one installation simultaneously has two different sizes.
Check the Nintendo store for your account’s country immediately before purchase and leave additional free space for updates, save data and other software. Do not treat 91.5 GB as the amount of free space you should have exactly; a nearly full system can fail during download or installation even when the nominal game figure appears to fit.

Nintendo Australia’s eShop says Switch 2 supports microSD Express cards. An expansion card is relevant if the console’s available internal space is insufficient or you want to keep other large games installed. It is not automatically required for every owner, and the game does not come with one. Confirm the card type and capacity before buying; an ordinary microSD card is not the same specification as microSD Express.
Play the free demo before you buy
Nintendo’s US listing describes a free demo covering the opening portion of the game through the end of Chapter 2. The demo can carry progress into the full game, making it the best way to check whether the combat, exploration and presentation suit you before committing to a large download and purchase.
The save-order caveat
Start and finish the demo before creating a save in the full game if transferring demo progress matters to you. Nintendo warns that once full-game save data has been created, demo save data cannot be transferred. The Kupo charm and survival set can still be obtained even in that situation, but your playable demo progress will not carry over.
- Download the free demo from the Nintendo eShop listing.
- Play through the available content, ending at Chapter 2.
- Keep the demo save data on the console.
- Buy and launch the full game only after the demo is complete if you want the transfer option.
- Follow the game’s on-screen import prompt when starting the full version.
If you have already launched the full game, do not delete saves in an attempt to force a transfer without first checking the game’s current instructions. The confirmed fallback is that the Kupo charm and survival set remain obtainable.

What is the Zack Fair promotional card, and is it included?
Square Enix says its limited Day One Edition included an English Magic: The Gathering—FINAL FANTASY Zack Fair promotional card. The card is not part of the Standard Edition by default. Square Enix’s North American store currently marks its Day One stock as sold out, but that does not establish what another retailer has, whether a particular warehouse still has old stock or whether a newly listed box includes the insert.
Read the retailer’s contents list rather than relying on a product title, a search thumbnail or an older unboxing image. Look for an explicit statement that the Zack Fair card is included and verify that the listing is for the Switch 2 edition. If the card matters to you, retain a screenshot or order confirmation that names it; do not assume every boxed copy is a Day One copy.
What does Digital Deluxe add?
Nintendo’s Digital Deluxe listing includes the complete game plus the following items:
- Magic Pot summon.
- Reclaimant Choker accessory.
- Orchid Bracelet armor.
- Digital art book.
- Mini soundtrack.
These extras are primarily a digital-content decision, not a different story campaign or a separate performance mode. The art book and soundtrack use the Square Enix Digital Content Viewer in a web browser and require a Square Enix account. Make sure you can access the email address associated with that account and have an internet connection when redeeming or viewing the material.
Compare the live prices in your region. Nintendo states that the digital items may later be sold separately, so calculate whether buying Deluxe now is better value than buying Standard and any future individual add-ons. Do not purchase a Deluxe edition and a separate upgrade until you have checked whether your regional store already recognizes your existing license.
The current US details are on Nintendo’s Digital Deluxe listing; the UK listing may show different pricing or edition labels.
Do you need to play Final Fantasy VII Remake first?
Square Enix calls Rebirth a standalone adventure that welcomes newcomers. Its menu includes a recap video for Final Fantasy VII Remake, and Square Enix says no other Final Fantasy game is required. You can therefore buy Rebirth as a first Final Fantasy VII experience, although the recap and optional background material will be useful if you want more context for returning characters and events.

Existing save data from Final Fantasy VII Remake Intergrade can provide bonus summon materia. Nintendo and Square Enix identify Leviathan and Ramuh bonuses for eligible save data. These are bonuses rather than prerequisites: missing the earlier game does not block the campaign or its core content.

What is not confirmed about the boxed version?
The official product pages reviewed identify a boxed edition but do not say whether its game card contains the complete game data or functions as a key that starts a download. Do not describe the physical copy as a fully contained cartridge unless the retailer, packaging or a directly relevant official statement confirms it.
That distinction matters because the game is large. If the box requires a download, you will still need sufficient storage and a reliable internet connection. Ask the retailer for the exact SKU and packaging details if the card format affects your decision.
What performance should you expect on Switch 2?

Edition names are not always enough to identify what will arrive. Open the full listing and match the platform, edition, region and seller. A page that simply says “Final Fantasy VII Rebirth” may combine search results for several systems. The cover, SKU and compatibility statement should all identify Nintendo Switch 2.

For a boxed purchase, read the contents panel and the dispatch description. If the Zack Fair card is important, the words “included” or an equivalent contents statement should appear in the listing; a photograph, “Day One” label or user review is not a guarantee. Save the confirmation page because stock can change between ordering and dispatch.
For Digital Deluxe, check whether the store is selling the complete edition or an upgrade that assumes you already own the Standard game. Compare the total cost rather than only the displayed upgrade price. Also confirm that the Nintendo account buying the game is the account you intend to use on the console and that you can sign in to a Square Enix account for the browser viewer.

Prices, availability and promotional stock can change independently by country. A Digital Deluxe price in the UK may not match the US price, and a retailer holding Day One boxes may sell out while another still lists Standard copies. Check the currency, seller, tax treatment and delivery terms shown for your account before deciding that one offer is cheaper.
A safe buying checklist

Expecting the promo card
Symptom: A boxed copy arrives without the Zack Fair card.
Fix: Check whether your order explicitly promised the Day One contents. A Standard Edition or later stock is not proven to include the limited insert.
Buying Deluxe for a physical collectible
Symptom: You expected a boxed bonus but purchased the digital edition.
