Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFree Scan →Before you pay, verify who is selling the item, exactly what condition and accessories the listing includes, what the marketplace will—and will not—do if something goes wrong, and whether the return and warranty terms work for you. Use this checklist for U.S. purchases; marketplace policies and consumer rights vary by service, transaction, and jurisdiction.
1. Verify the seller, not just the star rating
Check the seller name and the contact information shown on the listing. Read recent buyer comments, and look for information from more than one source where available. Ratings can help, but they are not proof: the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) warns that reviews and ratings may be fake, misleading, or incentivized. If an important question about the item or transaction gets an unclear answer—or no answer—consider another listing.

In the U.S., the INFORM Consumers Act requires marketplaces to collect and verify information from qualifying high-volume third-party sellers and, in many cases, disclose seller information and provide a way to report suspicious activity. That transparency does not certify a particular listing or guarantee that every seller has the same public disclosures. Check the actual seller details and the marketplace’s current process for reporting concerns. FTC: What Third Party Sellers Need to Know About the INFORM Consumers Act.
2. Confirm the item’s condition and what comes with it
Read the full description and fine print. Make sure you know whether the electronics are new, used, refurbished, vintage, close-out, or sold as-is, and check which accessories, parts, and documentation are included. For used goods, look for multiple photos of the actual item rather than relying only on stock images.
#1 Best Overall
- Accurate to 0.1oz: High precision for postage, packaging, or food preparation.
- Solid design with high weight limit: 50Lbs
- Smart Tare & Hold Functions: Effortlessly subtract container weight or lock readings for larger boxes.
- Clear LCD Display: Large, backlit screen makes weights easy to read, even in dim rooms.
- Multi-measuring units: Kg, lb/oz, oz
Compare the price with other offers for a comparable item and condition. The FTC cautions that a very low price on an expensive brand-name product could be a sign that it is counterfeit or stolen. A low price alone does not establish that either is true, but it is a reason to scrutinize the seller, photos, description, and payment terms. FTC: Online Shopping.
3. Find out what the marketplace’s protection actually covers
Read the current policy for the marketplace, seller, item, and type of problem you might need help with. Do not assume that a buyer-protection program applies to every electronics listing. Establish who handles delivery, returns, refunds, and disputes, and check eligibility requirements, required evidence, and the deadline to open a claim.

The FTC advises buyers to check a marketplace’s refund and return rules, find out who can help if there is a problem, and confirm that it allows a safe payment method. Some services provide processes for certain problems; others leave resolution to the buyer and seller. The relevant terms are the current policy for your specific purchase. FTC: Buying From an Online Marketplace.

4. Check delivery and return costs before checkout
Review the shipping charge and delivery estimate, then read the return terms for this item. Note the return window, who pays return shipping, any restocking fee, and how a refund is issued. Keep the return deadline separate from any deadline for a marketplace claim; they may not be the same.

The FTC’s online-shopping guidance says sellers must ship as promised or, if they did not specify a shipping time, within 30 days under the rule it describes. This shipping requirement does not tell you whether a marketplace will accept a dispute or whether a particular return will be free. FTC: Online Shopping.
5. Read the written warranty terms
Locate the warranty before buying and check who provides it, what it covers, its duration, exclusions, and how to request service. The FTC describes a warranty as a manufacturer’s promise to stand behind a product; the existence and scope of coverage for the item you are buying still depend on its written terms. Do not infer manufacturer coverage simply because the listing appears on a large marketplace. FTC: Warranties.

6. Pay safely and keep the transaction on the marketplace
Prefer a credit card or a secure online payment system with buyer protections. Do not pay by gift card, wire transfer, or cryptocurrency, and do not agree to a seller’s request to complete payment outside the marketplace. The FTC warns that these payment methods can make money difficult to recover; moving a transaction off-platform may also cost you marketplace protections.
Save the listing, seller messages, receipt, order confirmation, written warranty, and the relevant marketplace policy terms. If a problem arises, contact the seller and then the marketplace promptly. If you paid by card, you can also ask the card issuer about disputing the charge. FTC: Buying From an Online Marketplace.

Compare listings on total risk, not just price
Before choosing between two offers, compare the factors that change what you will receive and what you can do if it goes wrong:
- Seller identity, contact details, and recent feedback.
- Item condition, included contents, photos, and price relative to comparable offers.
- Shipping cost and delivery promise.
- Return window, return-shipping responsibility, fees, and refund method.
- Marketplace protection eligibility, dispute process, and claim deadline.
- Warranty provider, coverage, exclusions, and service instructions.
- Payment method and whether the transaction stays on-platform.
A lower listed price may not be the better value if return shipping, warranty eligibility, or available recourse is materially worse. That is a practical comparison of the terms above, not a guarantee about the outcome of any dispute.
