Buy the exact LG model that fits your room, route, electrical connection, laundry habits and dryer plan—not merely one with a large capacity or a familiar feature name. Before ordering, use the model’s specification sheet and installation instructions to verify dimensions (including the open-door depth), clearances, delivery access, cycles, accessory compatibility and the warranty for each component.
Start with the exact model number
LG sells front-load washers with different capacities, depths, controls and accessory requirements. A family name or retailer photograph is not enough to establish fit. Write down the complete model number, then open its current product page, specification sheet and installation documentation. Compare those documents with the physical space and equipment you already own.

Measure the laundry space in three dimensions
Measure the alcove, not just the appliance opening
- Measure the clear width at the floor, middle and top of the opening. Trim, baseboards, cabinets and uneven walls can reduce the usable width.
- Measure the height from the finished floor to the lowest obstruction, such as a shelf or countertop. Account for any pedestal you might add later.
- Measure usable depth from the rear wall to the nearest obstruction. Include hoses, the power connection and the space needed to service the machine; the cabinet depth alone is not the installation depth.
- Check the floor for level and strength. A front-loader must sit securely and be leveled according to LG’s installation instructions; do not assume a sloped or flexible floor will be corrected by pushing the appliance into place.
Compare your measurements with the exact model’s product dimensions. For example, the WM6500HWA cabinet is 33 1/8 inches deep, while the WM4000H_A sheet lists 30 1/4 inches. That difference can determine whether the door, hoses and service space clear a wall or cabinet.
Reserve space for the open door and loading
Front-loaders need room in front for the door swing, loading a basket and removing wet clothing. The WM6500HWA is listed at 57 3/4 inches deep with its door open; the WM4000H_A sheet lists 55 inches. Keep the washer door from colliding with a hallway door, a toilet, a cabinet or the matching dryer. LG Canada’s general buying guidance puts it plainly: “Make sure there’s enough room in front of your washing machine to open the door.” This is regional manufacturer guidance, not a model-specific clearance guarantee.
Mark the open-door depth on the floor with tape before ordering. If the appliance will sit beside a wall, verify that the hinge side still allows the door to open wide enough to load and unload comfortably. A measurement that works with the door closed can fail in daily use.

- Hallways, corners and stair landings where the boxed or wrapped unit must turn.
- Stairs, elevators and ramps, noting weight limits and door widths.
- Low ceilings, handrails, light fixtures and overhead cabinets.
- The final approach to the alcove, including a path for the delivery team to tilt or reposition the appliance.
Ask the retailer or installer whether measurements are taken with packaging on, whether door or trim removal is available, and what happens if the route fails. Delivery, haul-away and installation charges and availability vary locally and were not established by the manufacturer documents, so obtain a written quote for your address rather than assuming they are included.
Choose capacity by your laundry, then verify the physical envelope
Capacity is expressed in cubic feet and describes the drum volume, not a guaranteed number of shirts, towels or comforters. There is no universal household-size rule that makes 4.5 or 5.0 cu. ft. automatically correct. Consider how often you wash, the size of your normal loads, bulky bedding and whether your household prefers fewer, larger loads or more frequent smaller loads.
The WM6500HWA provides 5.0 cu. ft.; the WM4000H_A reference provides 4.5 cu. ft. Compare those capacities alongside width, height, depth and open-door depth. A larger drum can be useful for bulky items but may have a deeper cabinet or require a different stacking arrangement. Do not select capacity first and attempt to make the room fit afterward.

Match cycles and smart features to real use
Feature names are not interchangeable across LG models. The WM6500HWA product information lists TurboWash 360°, AI DD, Steam, Allergiene and ThinQ connectivity features. Treat that list as model-specific: another LG front-loader may omit one or more options, use different cycle names or offer different downloadable programs.

Build a must-have cycle list
- Everyday mixed loads and normal clothing.
- Delicates or hand-washable fabrics if you use them.
- Sanitizing, allergen or steam treatment only if the care labels and your household needs justify it.
- Bulky items and bedding, if those loads are part of your routine.
- Quick or small-load washing when turnaround time matters.
Open the exact manual or control-panel list and check available temperatures, spin speeds, soil settings, prewash, extra rinse and delay options. A cycle’s presence does not tell you its duration, load limit or fabric restrictions; read the model documentation before relying on it.
Interpret the TurboWash time claim carefully
LG’s under-30-minute TurboWash statement is based on independent testing of comparable WM4500 and WM3900 models, using the normal cycle, TurboWash option and a 10-pound load in March 2021. It is a manufacturer footnote, not a promise for every load and not a test result for the WM6500HWA itself. Expect actual time to vary with load size, options, water conditions and imbalance corrections.
Decide whether connected features help
ThinQ functions can add remote monitoring, notifications or downloadable-cycle controls on supported models. Confirm that the exact washer supports the functions you want, that your home has compatible Wi-Fi, and that you are comfortable creating and maintaining the required account and app connection. Smart features should supplement, not replace, a cycle list and controls that work for you locally.
Verify power and installation requirements
The WM6500HWA and WM4000H_A sheets each list 120 volts and 10 amps. Those figures describe the cited models; confirm the rating for the model you are buying and follow its installation instructions and local electrical rules. Check the outlet location before delivery, keep the connection accessible, and do not use an extension cord unless the installation documentation and applicable code explicitly allow it.

Make sure water supply, drain and venting arrangements (where applicable to your installation) match the instructions. Plan hose routing so it does not reduce the machine’s clearance or become pinched when the washer is pushed into place. If a licensed electrician or plumber is needed, schedule that work before delivery.
Plan the dryer, stacking kit and pedestal together
Stacking and raising accessories are model-dependent. LG identifies KSTK4 as a stacking kit and lists WDP6 and WD300-series pedestal options for the cited models. Compatibility depends on the exact washer and dryer model numbers, not simply on both appliances being front-load LG units.
- Choose the dryer model or confirm the dryer you already own.
- Check LG’s compatibility information for both model numbers and the proposed kit.
- Confirm the stacked height, ceiling clearance and access to controls and doors.
- Verify that the floor, delivery route and installer can safely handle the stacked configuration.
- Do not substitute a generic kit or assume a pedestal supports a different series.
LG Canada’s buying guidance likewise says to ensure that the stacking kit is compatible. If you want a compact side-by-side setup instead, measure the combined width and leave the specified service space between the machines and surrounding walls.
Read the warranty by component and by offer
The WM6500H_A specification sheet lists one year of parts and labor, ten years for the direct-drive motor and three years for the drum. Longer motor or drum coverage does not mean every repair, labor charge or other component is covered for that entire period. Read exclusions, registration requirements, authorized-service rules and what happens if a covered part fails.

The WM6500HWA product page separately describes a promotional two-year limited warranty for select purchases made April 9 through December 31, 2026. The offer requires downloading LG ThinQ, connecting the product to Wi-Fi and following the stated terms. Check energy certification and current availability
LG identifies the WM6500HWA as ENERGY STAR certified and marks the WM4000H_A sheet ENERGY STAR qualified. Certification status belongs to the exact model and can change as listings are updated, so check the current ENERGY STAR listing or the latest LG documentation before comparing operating costs. Certification alone does not provide your household’s annual bill; water temperature, cycle selection, load size, utility rates and usage determine actual consumption.
Confirm that the model is currently sold in your region, that the finish and control language are correct, and that replacement parts and service are available locally. A specification sheet without a current product listing may describe a discontinued or region-limited model.

Ask the retailer these questions before paying
- Is the quoted price for the exact model number, including the finish shown?
- Are delivery, unpacking, leveling, connection, haul-away and stair or elevator fees separate?
- What is the return policy if the measured route or alcove does not work?
- Will the installer use the manufacturer’s stacking kit and verify compatibility with my dryer?
- Are hoses, drain parts, pedestals or stacking hardware included, or must they be purchased separately?
- What service network handles warranty repairs in my ZIP code?
- Does the promotional warranty apply to this seller, model and purchase date, and what registration evidence is required?
Get answers in writing. Retailer inventory, promotions and installation availability are local and change faster than a printed specification sheet.
