Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors2Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches3Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsBefore buying an iPhone, verify that the exact model will work with your carrier, confirm whether it is locked, check the warranty and AppleCare eligibility, and understand how any trade-in quote can change. These details depend on the country, seller, carrier, and purchase terms, so check the specific offer—not just the product listing—before paying.
Will the iPhone work with your carrier?
Check the exact iPhone model and market version against your carrier’s compatibility information. A general statement that iPhones work on a network does not establish that a particular model supports your carrier’s bands, plan, or activation method. Apple’s U.S. shopping guidance also recommends asking the carrier whether it supports eSIM on your plan. Apple’s carrier guidance does not certify every model, plan, and carrier combination.

Confirm the phone is unlocked
Ask the seller or carrier whether the device is unlocked and whether any payoff is required. Apple says iPhones financed through AT&T, T-Mobile, or Verizon installment plans in the United States remain locked to that carrier until paid in full. If you may switch carriers, check the lock status and financing terms before buying; a low monthly price may come with limits on where the phone can be used.
Check SIM and eSIM activation
Ask your carrier whether the exact device can be activated on your plan and whether activation will use a physical SIM, eSIM, or both. Do not assume eSIM support on the phone alone means your carrier and plan support eSIM activation.

What warranty and AppleCare coverage applies?
Use the phone’s serial number to check its displayed coverage before buying a used device or relying on a seller’s coverage claim. Enter it in Apple’s coverage lookup and review the benefits shown. A coverage result and AppleCare eligibility are separate questions: Apple may require a device check, and available plans vary by country or region and device. An advertised AppleCare option is not proof that a particular phone qualifies. See Apple’s AppleCare information for iPhone for the applicable options.
Read the warranty terms for this sale
Apple says most Apple hardware includes a one-year limited warranty and up to 90 days of complimentary technical support. Apple Certified Refurbished products are described as including Apple’s standard one-year limited warranty. These Apple statements do not establish the terms offered by every retailer or seller. Check the written warranty for the product you are buying and consider local statutory consumer rights, which may provide protections beyond a manufacturer warranty. Apple’s Certified Refurbished information describes that program’s coverage.

How can a trade-in quote change?
Consider a trade-in estimate conditional until the device has been inspected. Under Apple’s U.S. Trade In terms, the vendor may revise an estimate if the phone’s condition differs from the description, Find My has not been removed, or the device arrives outside the specified period. Apple’s terms specify a 14-day arrival condition, counted from delivery of the trade-in box, for the stated possibility of a revised quote; this is a rule for that program, not a general trade-in standard. Review Apple’s U.S. Trade In terms and the terms of any other provider before agreeing.
Compare the purchase cost after applying a realistic trade-in value, and find out what happens if inspection lowers the estimate. Apple’s U.S. terms say: “You are responsible for backing up and/or deleting data on your trade-in device.” Back up anything you need, then remove your personal data and prepare the device as the provider instructs.

What are the return and cancellation rules?
Read both the seller’s return policy and the carrier’s service agreement. Apple’s U.S. Store help states that an eligible purchase made directly from Apple can be returned within 14 days of receipt if it is in original condition and includes its parts, accessories, and packaging. Purchases from other retailers follow those retailers’ policies. Apple also says returning the phone does not automatically cancel a wireless service agreement. Check Apple’s U.S. return guidance, then confirm any separate carrier cancellation or financing obligations.
What should you inspect on a used or refurbished iPhone?
For an available iPhone running iOS 15.2 or later, open Settings > General > About and review Parts and Service History. Apple says the labels can identify genuine, unknown, or unverified parts, and notes that an unknown part might affect trade-in value. Details are in Apple’s Parts and Service History guidance.
