A fall in Ambuja Cements’ share price is a reason to investigate, not proof that the stock has become cheap. First establish when and how much the price fell and what, if anything, caused it; then assess the company’s latest earnings, cash generation, operating trends, growth plans and valuation at a dated market price. The company’s Q1 FY27 results provide a useful fundamental starting point, but they do not establish why an unspecified price decline occurred or whether the shares are attractive at your intended purchase price.
Start by identifying the decline
The title does not specify a date range or percentage fall, so no particular decline or catalyst can be assumed. Pull the share-price series from a dated exchange or reliable market-data source and record the start date, end date and percentage change. Compare the same period with the broader market and relevant listed cement peers. Then check dated exchange disclosures and company announcements for possible company-specific developments.

A price chart can show when the fall occurred; it cannot by itself establish why. Avoid attributing the move to results, fuel prices, a merger or any other event unless the timing and disclosures support that explanation. A lower price can still imply an expensive valuation if earnings expectations have fallen faster.

Check the latest reported results against comparable periods
Ambuja’s 28 July 2026 release covers Q1 FY27, the three months ended 30 June 2026. The company reported the following consolidated figures:
#1 Best Overall
| Measure | Q1 FY27 | Q1 FY26 | Q4 FY26 |
|---|---|---|---|
| Cement sales volume | 17.1 million tonnes | 18.4 million tonnes | 19.9 million tonnes |
| Revenue from operations | ₹9,500 crore | ₹10,289 crore | ₹10,916 crore |
| Operating EBITDA | ₹1,589 crore | ₹1,961 crore | ₹1,465 crore |
| Operating EBITDA margin | 16.7% | 19.1% | 13.4% |
| Profit after tax (PAT) | ₹660 crore | ₹1,041 crore | ₹1,857 crore |
| Diluted EPS | ₹2.32 | ₹3.53 | ₹7.37 |
These comparisons show lower volume, revenue, operating EBITDA, PAT and diluted EPS year over year. Sequentially, Q1 FY27 operating EBITDA margin was higher than Q4 FY26’s, while volume, revenue, PAT and EPS were lower. Ambuja also reported a ₹206-per-tonne sequential cost reduction. One quarter’s margin movement does not establish a durable earnings recovery; compare subsequent results and check whether the margin improvement is supported by operating performance.
Use consolidated figures consistently when assessing the group, and do not mix them with standalone figures or different reporting periods. The company’s Q1 FY27 results release gives the reported comparisons and operating commentary.
Separate reported profit from adjusted profit
Full-year figures need the same care. Ambuja’s FY26 integrated report states revenue from operations of ₹40,656 crore and net profit of ₹5,637 crore. Its separate FY26 results release reports normalized PAT of ₹2,647 crore after excluding specified prior-year items. These are not interchangeable profit measures. Before using either in a growth rate or valuation multiple, read the relevant release and state the measure, period and exclusions.

For a valuation check, calculate earnings per share or a multiple from a clearly identified earnings basis, then compare like with like across years and peers. Do not combine normalized profit for one period with reported profit for another. The FY26 integrated report and FY26 results release set out the respective figures and bases.
Look beyond volume to mix, margins and costs
In Q1 FY27, Ambuja reported that trade sales made up 78% of volume, up 4 percentage points year over year, and that premium products represented 34% of trade sales. It also reported green power at 34%, primary lead of 249 km and direct dispatch at 58%. These measures can help frame questions about realization, distribution and operating efficiency, but they do not substitute for realized prices, EBITDA per tonne, utilization or cash flow.
A secondary earnings-call summary says management described a shift away from low-margin non-trade volume as deliberate. Treat that as management’s interpretation, not proof that the change has improved returns. Check later disclosures for the effect on realized margins and earnings per tonne. Track fuel, freight and other input costs alongside volume: the Q1 release cited fuel and freight pressure, including geopolitical developments in West Asia, and warned that the fuel-inventory cycle could bring peak cost inflation into seasonally weaker Q2. The company described mitigation through fuel mix, renewable energy, logistics efficiency, higher-margin markets and cost management; subsequent results are needed to judge the outcome.
Test expansion plans against delivery and returns
Ambuja reported cement capacity of 109 MTPA at 30 June 2026 and a management target of 119 MTPA by FY27-end. In the Q1 release, Dahej, Salai Banwa, Bathinda and Jodhpur had commenced trial production; Kalamboli and Warisaliganj were expected to begin trials in Q2, while a Maratha clinker line was expected in 2027. These are a mix of reported milestones and forward-looking plans, not a guarantee that capacity will be commissioned on schedule or earn an adequate return.

The FY26 integrated report says acquired-asset utilization was 54%, up 16 percentage points from 38% the prior year, and describes an integration programme. Watch whether utilization and financial contribution improve rather than treating announced capacity as completed earnings. Management’s statement that it was on track for 119 MTPA is forward-looking and should be checked against later company filings.
Review the merger and other disclosed risks
The proposed amalgamation of ACC and Orient Cement with Ambuja is a potential execution and corporate-action consideration. ACC’s 24 July 2026 release says the SEBI no-objection certificate for the proposed ACC amalgamation was received on 4 June 2026 and an NCLT application was filed on 29 June 2026. Completion was expected during FY27, subject to approvals. Before relying on an expected timetable, review current exchange filings and scheme documents for approval status, terms, share consideration and record dates. The ACC release describes the stated status as of its publication.

Other risks to test against later results and filings include:
- Imported-fuel, freight, diesel, packaging and currency pressures, which the company identified in its FY26 outlook.
- Seasonal monsoon softness and demand: Ambuja’s approximately 5% FY27 cement-industry growth figure was a company outlook, not a realized result or independent forecast.
- Delays in commissioning or integrating assets, and lower-than-expected utilization or returns.
- Any changes to merger approvals, terms or timing, along with contingent or litigation exposures disclosed in current filings.
The FY26 outlook and cost-pressure commentary appear in the company’s FY26 results release. Treat those statements as dated management views, not as forecasts that have already come true.
Use the balance sheet as context, not a valuation verdict
Ambuja described itself as debt-free in its FY26 reporting, which gave net worth of ₹71,846 crore at FY26 year-end and CRISIL and CARE ratings of AAA/Stable for long-term instruments and A1+ for short-term instruments. Its Q1 FY27 release reported net worth of ₹71,954 crore and cash and cash equivalents of ₹844 crore at 30 June 2026. Keep the dates attached to these figures; they describe different reporting points.
Best Value
A strong balance sheet can inform resilience and funding capacity, but it cannot establish that the equity is cheap. For that, use a dated share price and market capitalization with a consistent earnings basis, and compare valuation with suitable listed cement peers over the same period. The reviewed company disclosures do not provide a current valuation conclusion.
Make the decision a checklist, not a reaction
- Define the price move: record the price period and source, calculate the change, and compare it with market and peer performance.
- Verify the catalyst: read dated exchange filings and company disclosures; do not infer causation from a price chart.
- Reconcile financials: compare reported quarterly and full-year results on the same consolidated or standalone basis, and distinguish reported from normalized profit.
- Test operating quality: follow volume, trade and premium mix, realization, EBITDA per tonne, costs, margin and utilization across multiple periods.
- Check valuation: calculate a multiple from a dated price and clearly identified earnings, then compare with peers on the same basis.
- Monitor execution and downside: track capacity milestones, capex, integration, returns, input costs, demand and corporate-action approvals.
This process helps distinguish a temporary price decline from deterioration in fundamentals or a valuation reset. It is a research framework, not an individualized recommendation to buy.
