1. Identify the exact model and storage
“Galaxy” or even a family name such as “Galaxy S24” is not enough to compare offers. Record the full model number and storage capacity from the product listing, then check that those details match the checkout page and order confirmation. - Write down the model number and storage capacity before comparing prices.
- Check whether the listing says new, open-box, refurbished, or certified renewed.
- Make sure the item actually sold is the model shown, especially when a marketplace listing offers several variants.
2. Confirm the lock status and carrier compatibility
“Unlocked” describes a device’s lock status; it does not guarantee that every carrier will support every model or feature. If an IMEI is not available before purchase, get the seller’s written return terms first. Do not assume “unlocked” alone settles whether the phone will work with your carrier.
3. Check where the phone was intended to be sold
Ask whether the device is intended for the US market or imported from another country. Samsung US says smartphone service is limited to the country where the device was first sold. Before buying an imported or marketplace phone, confirm who is responsible for warranty service and get the applicable warranty terms in writing. 4. Calculate the actual price and check offer conditions
Compare the amount you will actually pay, not just the headline discount. Add required taxes, shipping, and other charges shown at checkout, then account for any conditions attached to trade-in credits, financing, or carrier activation. 5. Read the actual seller’s return policy
Samsung US says most items bought on Samsung.com or in the Shop Samsung App can be returned within 15 days of delivery, subject to conditions. Products bought elsewhere follow that retailer’s policy. - Confirm the return deadline, how it is counted, and whether return shipping or restocking fees apply.
- Check requirements for packaging, device condition, and accessories.
- If the purchase includes carrier activation or financing, check the return process and any separate carrier obligations.
- For a Samsung.com or Shop Samsung App return, Samsung asks customers to remove accounts and personal data and reset the device.
6. Compare certified renewed only if it fits the offer
Samsung’s US Certified Re-Newed program describes phones as receiving genuine Samsung parts as needed, a certified new battery, a new IMEI, the latest software, and a 147-point quality test. Samsung also states a one-year warranty for the program. Models, availability, and terms can change, so verify the current listing and conditions.
