Compare the full cost for the time you expect to keep it: device payments, any required plan premium, upfront charges, taxes, trade-in credit, and any deferred balance you would owe to keep the phone. Also check the return conditions, cancellation terms, warranty, and exact model compatibility before signing.
Compare the full cost, not the advertised phone payment
Use the same ownership period and a plan that meets your needs for each option: carrier financing, buying outright, or buying from Samsung Canada. A carrier quote can look inexpensive because the device payment is only one part of the commitment.

- Device payments: Add every scheduled payment over the agreement term.
- Plan cost: Identify the eligible plan and compare its cost with a suitable bring-your-own-device plan. Include the plan-price difference over the same period, not just the phone line on the quote.
- Other charges and credits: Account for upfront or handling charges, taxes, and any credits. Check whether a credit is conditional on a specific plan, trade-in, or other eligibility.
- End-of-term balance: If the offer defers part of the device cost, include that amount if you intend to keep the phone.
- Trade-in: Use the value you are actually eligible to receive, and check when the phone is assessed and what happens if its condition fails the assessment.
Bell’s Galaxy S26 listing accessed October 3, 2026, is one example of a 24-month financing offer requiring an eligible two-year plan, with a deferred amount due if the customer keeps the handset or a return option subject to conditions. Those terms and prices are a dated example, not a quote for other carriers or a promise the offer will remain available. Before accepting a low monthly device price, find out whether you own the phone automatically at the end of the term, must pay a deferred balance to keep it, or can return it under a separate return program. For a return option, read the contract’s exact condition standard and the inspection process.

- Ask what counts as “good working condition” under that offer, including how damage, missing parts, or other wear is handled.
- Confirm the amount due if you keep the device rather than return it.
- Check whether changing plans or cancelling early triggers repayment or other charges.
- Ask whether optional protection affects return eligibility, and check its exclusions, deductible, and term separately from manufacturer warranty coverage.
Bell’s listing describes return-condition, plan-change, and early-cancellation consequences for its own offer. Do not assume those rules apply to another carrier’s financing or return program.
Check the plan requirement and cancellation terms
Read the complete offer and service agreement, not just the device listing. Confirm which plan qualifies, whether the price depends on your province or customer eligibility, and whether you can change to a less expensive plan without changing what you owe. Ask the carrier to show the consequences of cancelling or changing plans before the agreement ends.

Compare the required plan with the plan you would otherwise choose for your own usage. If the offer requires a more expensive plan, include that difference in the total cost. A device offer is not a saving if it is offset by plan costs you would not otherwise incur.
Know your unlocked-device and trial-period protections
The CRTC’s simplified Wireless Code says a device supplied by a service provider for wireless service must be provided unlocked. Its guidance also addresses disclosure of the manufacturer’s warranty before an extended warranty or insurance is offered, and describes a trial period. Review the current simplified Wireless Code and your contract for the details that apply to your purchase.

The CRTC’s Wireless Code page also reports a consultation examining whether device financing plans comply with the Code. That regulatory context is not a finding that any particular carrier offer is compliant or non-compliant.
Verify the exact Galaxy S26 model and network support
Check the model number and storage configuration on the agreement or invoice, particularly if you are considering a phone from outside Canada. Confirm with the carrier that the exact model supports its network bands, VoLTE, SIM provisioning, and any eSIM setup you plan to use.

Videotron’s Galaxy S26 support page lists nano-SIM and eSIM and gives VoLTE certification information for specified regions. Those details are specific to the support information Videotron provides; they do not establish compatibility for every S26 variant or every Canadian network.
Confirm trade-in, warranty, and return policies separately
Samsung Canada describes trade-in as an option for credit toward a purchase and directs buyers to warranty information on its Galaxy S26 purchase page. The actual credit, eligibility, and terms depend on the live offer and device assessment. Verify the seller, Canadian warranty applicability, and the warranty details for the precise configuration you will receive. Samsung also cautions that colour availability may differ by country or carrier.

Ask who handles warranty service, what proof of purchase is required, and what return window and condition rules apply to the sale. These are separate from a carrier’s end-of-term option to return a financed phone. If offered carrier protection or Samsung Care+, compare the coverage, exclusions, and deductible with the manufacturer warranty rather than treating the products as interchangeable.
Use this checklist before you sign
- Get a written quote for the exact S26 model and storage configuration.
- Confirm the eligible plan, its price, and whether the offer varies by province or customer eligibility.
- Calculate the total over the period you expect to keep the phone, including plan cost, device payments, taxes, one-time charges, credits, trade-in, and any balance due to keep it.
- Read the early-cancellation and plan-change terms, plus the end-of-term choice and return-condition standard.
- Verify trade-in eligibility and value, Canadian warranty coverage, the seller’s return policy, and who handles service.
- Confirm the exact model’s SIM/eSIM setup, VoLTE, and network compatibility with your intended carrier.
