Before buying a discounted Steam strategy game, verify the exact edition and checkout price, make sure your PC meets its requirements, and read recent reviews on that game’s store page. Also check Steam’s refund rules: the general policy allows eligible requests within 14 days of purchase if playtime is under two hours, but a refund is not automatic.
Check the exact game, edition, and price
Open the specific game’s live Steam store page and confirm which option you are adding to your cart. A discounted listing may be for the base game, a bundle, or an edition with downloadable content (DLC); the discount alone does not tell you what is included. Compare the selected option with the page’s other purchase options and read each description before checkout.

Check the final price shown to your Steam account in your own region and currency. Publishers can set regional prices using Steam’s regional pricing tools, so a price seen in another country—or in an old screenshot—may not match your checkout total. For a strategy game, also check the store page’s supported features and online requirements. If you expect to play multiplayer, confirm that the listed modes and connectivity requirements fit how you plan to play. Read reviews for the details that matter to you
Use recent reviews on the exact game’s Steam page to understand current player feedback. Know what Steam’s refund policy does—and does not—promise
Steam’s general stated policy is that Valve will, on request through Steam Support, issue a refund for a title requested within 14 days of purchase if it has been played for less than two hours. Steam says online, offline, and shared-library playtime all count toward the two-hour limit. This is a general policy, not a guarantee for every product or circumstance; review Steam’s refund guidance for the applicable terms and request process. Any local consumer rights may also apply.
Steam describes EU and UK statutory withdrawal rights separately: its refund information says this right ends 14 days after purchase or when downloading starts, whichever happens first. That jurisdiction-specific description is distinct from Steam’s general refund policy.

If the price falls after you buy
Steam does not automatically refund the difference when a game’s price drops. According to its sales and purchasing FAQ, you can request a refund for the original purchase and buy the game again at the sale price if the purchase is eligible under the refund policy.
