A delisted or older game may still be purchasable, but availability and compatibility depend on the exact title, edition, region, and device. Before paying, confirm that you have a legitimate purchase route, check the game’s current requirements, and verify any Steam Deck, account, refund, or online-feature details that matter to you.
Can you still buy the exact game?
Start with the game’s Steam Store page while signed in to the account and region you intend to use. Check whether that specific edition can actually be purchased. An old Store URL or a claim that a game is “delisted” does not establish that it can still be bought or activated.

If you are considering a third-party CD key, check the seller’s region eligibility and refund terms before paying. Steam says restrictions for third-party keys vary by publisher; a key listing alone is not proof that it will activate for your account. Will it run on your PC?
On the Store page, read the game’s System Requirements and check both supported operating systems and hardware requirements. Steam notes that an unsupported operating system can prevent a game from working even when the computer’s hardware appears sufficient. Its system requirements guidance explains where to find those details.

Check Windows version and architecture
Steam ended support for systems running 32-bit Windows on January 1, 2026. Steam says existing installations may continue to work in the near term, but they no longer receive Steam client updates or support, and continued functionality is not guaranteed. This concerns the operating system running the Steam client: 32-bit games can still run on 64-bit Windows 10. Is it compatible with Steam Deck?
Look at the game’s own Deck Compatibility details on its Store page. Steam uses four labels:

What are you actually getting with a Steam purchase?
Steam’s Subscriber Agreement says, “The Content and Services are licensed, not sold.” An account is required, and use of some content may require the Steam client and an internet connection. Read Valve’s Steam Subscriber Agreement if ongoing account-based access is an important consideration.

How do Steam refunds work?
For games and software, Steam’s standard refund policy allows a request within 14 days of purchase when you have played for less than two hours. Online, offline, and shared-library playtime counts toward the limit. You can still submit a request outside those conditions, but approval is not promised. Check the current Steam Refund Policy before buying, especially if you are uncertain about compatibility.

These details are title-specific. A Store listing or Deck rating does not establish that a game’s online servers are active, multiplayer is available, patches are still provided, saves are compatible, or a required launcher or DRM system works on your setup. Check current publisher information and recent reports about the exact title, and confirm which edition includes the features you want.

Steam’s local network transfer feature is not a way to obtain a license. It copies game installation or update files between eligible online clients, excludes local saves and configurations, and requires the game to be publicly released and playable by both users. A quick pre-purchase checklist
- Confirm the exact game and edition can be purchased through the Steam Store for your signed-in account and region.
- For an outside key, verify region eligibility, included content, and seller refund terms before paying.
- Compare the game’s listed operating-system and hardware requirements with your device.
- If using 32-bit Windows, account for Steam’s end of support on January 1, 2026.
- On Steam Deck, read the title’s compatibility label and any unmet criteria on its Store page.
- Check current title-specific information for servers, patches, launcher or DRM requirements, and the features you intend to use.
- Understand Steam’s account-based license terms and standard refund thresholds before relying on a purchase as a trial.
