Then verify the exact port modes, stand or VESA fit, local price, warranty, and return terms. Curvature is one factor—not a guarantee of better gaming.
Start with your games, hardware, and desk
Before comparing listings, note your budget ceiling, PC and graphics card or console, the games you play most, your usual viewing distance, and the desk space available. These choices determine which specifications matter.

- Competitive shooters: prioritize a refresh rate your system can actually reach, clean motion, low measured input lag, and compatible variable refresh rate (VRR).
- Racing, flight simulation, and immersive single-player games: screen size, aspect ratio, contrast, and a curve that suits your seating position may matter more.
- Console play: check the console’s supported resolution and refresh rate, as well as the monitor’s HDMI modes and VRR support. A monitor’s advertised maximum may exceed what the console can use.
Smaller displays can work well at close range, while 34-inch-and-larger ultrawides provide more horizontal space for immersive play. That extra area and resolution can also increase the graphics workload. RTINGS’ monitor size and resolution guide explains how viewing distance and pixel density affect the choice.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute2Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems3Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesMatch screen size, resolution, and frame rate
Judge resolution alongside screen size: the same resolution spread across a larger panel has lower pixel density, which can make text and fine details look less sharp. For example, a 27-inch 4K display is sharper than a 27-inch 1440p display. But higher resolution also asks more of a GPU, so a lower-powered PC may deliver more consistent high frame rates at 1080p.
#1 Best Overall
- CURVED FOR ENHANCED ENGAGEMENT: An immersive viewing experience with a curved monitor that wraps more closely around your field of vision; It creates a wider view, enhancing depth perception and minimizing peripheral distraction
- SMOOTH PERFORMANCE FOR SEAMLESS CONTENT: Stay in the action when playing games, watching videos, or working on creative projects; The 100Hz refresh rate reduces lag and motion blur so you don't miss a thing in fast-paced moments¹
- MORE GAMING POWER: Gain the edge with optimizable game settings; Color and image contrast can be adjusted to see scenes more vividly and spot enemies hiding in the dark; Game Mode adjusts any game to fill the screen so you can view every detail²
- KEEP IT EASY ON THE EYES: Care for your eyes and stay comfortable, even during long sessions; Advanced eye comfort technology certified by TÜV reduces eye strain by minimizing blue light and reducing irritating screen flicker²
- INCREASED VERSATILITY: Connect to more; Plug devices straight into your monitor for increased flexibility, making your computing environment even more convenient
The practical trade-off is image detail and screen area versus the frame rate your system can sustain in your games. Neither 1080p, 1440p, nor an ultrawide format is automatically right for every budget or setup.
Decide whether the curve suits your setup
Curvature is commonly given as a radius in millimetres. A smaller radius means a tighter curve; for instance, MSI specifies a 1000R curve for its G272C. Consider the actual panel dimensions, how far away you sit, and whether the curve fits your desk placement.
A curved display may feel more immersive in racing games, flight simulators, and other games where a wraparound view is welcome. A flat screen can be simpler to align in a multi-monitor setup or for precision-focused work. Dell says the wraparound effect may be more useful on larger screens of 32 inches and above; whether curved or flat feels better is ultimately personal preference. Dell’s gaming-monitor guide and RTINGS’ curved-versus-flat guide discuss the trade-offs.

Look beyond refresh rate and response-time claims
Refresh rate is how often the screen updates per second. A higher rate can make motion look smoother, but the game and hardware need to supply enough frames to take advantage of it, and gains diminish at very high rates. Two monitors with the same refresh rate can still differ in how quickly their pixels change and how clean motion looks.
Do not treat a “1 ms” label as a complete motion-performance result. It may refer to different measurement methods: MSI, for example, rates the G272C at 1 ms MPRT. Check whether a response figure is GtG or MPRT, which operating mode produced it, and independent tests of the exact model for transition speed, overshoot or inverse ghosting, dark smearing, and input lag. Input lag is distinct from pixel response time. An aggressive overdrive setting can produce distracting inverse ghosting even when its marketing number looks fast.
VA panels tend to offer stronger contrast than IPS, but some VA displays have slow dark transitions that can cause smearing. Some models can also show VRR flicker when frame rates change substantially, particularly in dark scenes. These are model-dependent tendencies, not guarantees about every VA screen. RTINGS’ response-time guide explains why the measurement and artifacts matter.

Check VRR support with your actual device
VRR synchronizes the display’s refresh with changing frame output to help reduce tearing and stutter. Common formats include AMD FreeSync, NVIDIA G-SYNC, and HDMI Forum VRR. Confirm the monitor supports the format, refresh range, and input you intend to use, and verify compatibility with your specific graphics card or console.

A VRR badge alone does not establish that the feature works across every input or resolution-and-refresh combination. Consult the model’s official mode information and independent compatibility findings; ViewSonic’s VRR explainer describes the technology and formats.
Verify ports, included cables, and physical fit
Look up the maximum resolution and refresh rate supported by each HDMI and DisplayPort input, including whether a maximum requires overclocking. The GPU, cable, and monitor connection must all support the chosen signal; the weakest bandwidth link constrains the mode. Also check VRR over the input you will use, included cables, audio output if needed, stand footprint, height and tilt adjustment, and VESA mounting pattern.

MSI’s G272C specifications illustrate why port details matter: it is listed as a 27-inch, 1920 × 1080 VA monitor with a 1000R curve and 170 Hz refresh rate, but HDMI is specified up to 1920 × 1080 at 165 Hz, while DisplayPort reaches 170 Hz with overclocking. Its listed VESA pattern is 100 × 100 mm. These are manufacturer specifications, not a comparative performance assessment or a current price or availability claim. Check the exact regional model and package contents on MSI’s G272C specification page. Dell also advises matching the cable to the graphics-card output and checking what comes in the box.
Treat HDR and gaming labels as starting points
HDR compatibility alone does not show whether a screen can deliver compelling HDR. Check measured brightness and contrast, local dimming, certification details, and independent tests of the exact model. A “gaming” label likewise does not establish motion quality, VRR compatibility, or a useful port configuration.
