For mixed floors, check carpet detection and carpet behavior first. Turn on carpet suction boost for vacuuming if your robot offers it; before a mop run, choose whether it should avoid carpet, vacuum it only, or clean it before mopping hard floors. The right options and their names vary by model, so confirm them in your robot’s app guide or manual.
Set up carpet handling before you clean
Open the robot’s map and check that carpeted areas are recognized. If your app lets you mark floor types, correct the map where needed. Then choose settings based on the carpet’s pile and what the robot will do in that run: vacuum, mop, or both.

Vacuuming carpet
Enable automatic carpet boost if your robot supports it. Roborock says the Q10 X5 increases suction when it detects carpet or when carpet is set in the app. That is a model-specific feature, not a universal setting.

Its guidance recommends Avoid for medium- or long-haired carpet, Vacuum Only for short-haired carpet under 10 mm or mats, and Pass Only for medium- or long-haired carpet in a doorway or across a room. Keeping carpet dry during mopping
Before starting a mop run, choose a dry-carpet behavior: avoid the carpet, vacuum it without mopping, or use a carpet-first workflow if the robot supports one. A raised mop does not guarantee that every rug is safe to cross. For the Roborock Q10 X5, the manufacturer recommends carpet avoidance or No-Go Zones for medium- to high-pile carpet because resistance can remain high even when the mop is raised: Roborock Q10 X5 product and support information.
Choose a setting by carpet type and cleaning task
| Situation | Setting to consider | Important qualification |
|---|---|---|
| Short-haired carpet under 10 mm or a mat on a supported DEEBOT | Vacuum Only | ECOVACS’s recommendation applies to models with this strategy; confirm the label in your app. ECOVACS guidance. |
| Medium- or long-haired carpet on a supported DEEBOT | Avoid | Manufacturer guidance recommends avoiding the carpet during cleaning. ECOVACS guidance. |
| Medium- or long-haired carpet across a doorway or room on a supported DEEBOT | Pass Only | Use only if the model offers this option; it is a specific ECOVACS strategy. ECOVACS guidance. |
| Medium- to high-pile carpet on a Roborock Q10 X5 during a mop run | Carpet avoidance or a No-Go Zone | Roborock cites remaining movement resistance even with the mop raised. Do not assume this guidance applies to every robot. Roborock Q10 X5 product and support information. |
| Shaggy rug or carpet fibers longer than 10 mm on the ECOVACS T50 MAX family | Fold the rug up or set a no-entry zone | This is a model-specific limit in the ECOVACS T50 MAX family manual, not a general threshold for all robots. |
Run carpet first, then mop hard floors
On supported DEEBOTs, ECOVACS’s Clean Carpet First feature lets the robot vacuum carpet, return to the base to wash the mop, and then clean other areas. Set the carpet strategy to Vacuum Only first, then enable the feature in Settings > Robot Advanced Settings > Clean Carpet First. The sequence and exact menu availability are model-dependent. See ECOVACS’s Clean Carpet First setup instructions.
Adjust for pet hair without expecting a guarantee
If hair collects on carpet, carpet boost may help when your robot offers it. Roborock describes the Q7 M5 as increasing suction on carpet detected by the robot or set in the app, and describes an anti-tangle brush system and pet-hair-oriented cleaning features. These are manufacturer descriptions of that model, not a guarantee that hair will be removed or that tangles will not occur: Roborock Q7 M5 product information.

Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.Use hard-floor controls only when your model supports them
Some robots offer a floor-direction setting intended to help them follow tile or floor seams and gaps. Roborock describes this capability for the Q7 M5 as a way to remove debris from floor gaps. If your model has the control, consider aligning it with the seams; names and availability vary by robot.
Do not assume a particular water-flow level is safe for every hard-floor finish. The cited manufacturer guidance does not establish a universal water setting across materials, so follow the floor maker’s care instructions and your robot’s manual.

Troubleshoot a rug that catches the robot
If a DEEBOT catches a curled rug corner, ECOVACS suggests securing the corner with double-sided tape or using a virtual wall to keep the robot away from that area. Check that adhesive is suitable for your floor finish before applying it. This is a targeted fix for a curling corner, not a routine requirement for every rug: ECOVACS troubleshooting guidance.
