For a normal Best Buy store pickup, bring a government-issued photo ID and your order number—but leave only after you receive the separate “Ready for pickup” notice. An order-confirmation email alone does not establish that the item is ready.
Your requirements change if another person is collecting the order, you are picking up a phone with a plan, using curbside or a warehouse, or collecting a large item. Use the checklist below for the pickup method shown in your order.

Most orders collected from the Store Pickup area inside a Best Buy store require two things:

- Your order number. Keep it available in the Best Buy account, order details, confirmation message, or another place you can access at the store.
Best Buy’s Store Pickup guidance summarizes the requirement this way: “Bring your ID and order number to the store and pick up your items.” The ID verifies the person collecting the order; the order number lets the associate locate the transaction.

Do not confuse the confirmation email with the ready notice
Best Buy normally sends an order confirmation first and a separate “Ready for pickup” email when the store has prepared the item. Wait for the readiness notice before traveling to the store. An order can be confirmed in the system without being available for collection.
If the ready email is missing, sign in to your Best Buy account and open Order Details to check the current status. Use the status shown there rather than assuming that the original confirmation means the item is waiting at the counter. Operational details can change, so also read the pickup instructions attached to the order.
Where to go inside the store
Follow signs for Store Pickup once you enter. Some locations have reserved pickup parking or a dedicated entrance; if yours does not, look for the Store Pickup sign or ask an employee near the entrance. The exact counter layout varies by location.

What to do before leaving home
- Confirm readiness. Find the separate “Ready for pickup” message or verify an equivalent ready status in Order Details.
- Check the location. Confirm the store selected for the order, its opening hours, and any instructions in the confirmation or readiness message.
- Prepare identification. Take the government-issued photo ID that belongs to the purchaser or the designated pickup person.
- Make the order number accessible. A phone is convenient, but the essential information is the number itself; use whichever lawful record you can reliably access.
- Review the item and pickup mode. The instructions may identify a warehouse, curbside process, plan-device activation, or a large-item handling requirement.
- Plan transportation for the packaged product. For a television, appliance, furniture-sized package, or another bulky item, measure the vehicle opening and cargo area before leaving.
Best Buy’s official U.S. help pages checked on October 13, 2026, did not display a publication or revision date. Store hours, check-in methods, and operational instructions can change, so the order’s current details and the local location information take precedence.
What happens at a normal store pickup
- Enter the store and follow the Store Pickup signs, or ask an employee where the pickup desk is located.
- Tell the associate that you are collecting an online order.
- Show the government-issued photo ID and provide the order number.
- Allow the associate to verify the order and retrieve the item.
- Before leaving, check that you received the correct product, quantity, and any included accessories or paperwork that the order identifies.
The purchaser or a person properly designated for pickup may collect the order. A different person cannot simply arrive with the purchaser’s order number and assume the store will release it.
If someone else is picking up your order
Use Best Buy’s alternate pickup option during checkout. Enter the other person’s name, email address, and phone number exactly as requested. The alternate person should then bring their own government-issued photo ID and the order number.
Changing the pickup person
If the designated person changes, open the order’s Order Details and use the available option to change the pickup person. Make the change before the person travels to the store so the order record matches the person standing at the counter.
Products that may not allow friend-and-family pickup
The alternate pickup option described by Best Buy does not apply to every product. The exclusions identified in its fast-pickup guidance are:
- Cell phones.
- Activated devices.
- Point-of-sale activated gift cards.
- Digital games.
- Best Buy for Business products.
- Products that are currently inactive.
For an excluded product, check the order instructions or contact the store before sending someone else. Do not rely on the general alternate-person process when the item is tied to activation, a business order, or another product-specific restriction.

Curbside pickup: bring more than the standard checklist
Curbside is not the same as walking to the Store Pickup counter. First wait for the ready notification. Then follow the check-in directions in the email, text message, or Best Buy app. The instructions may ask you to identify the parking space or otherwise tell the store that you have arrived.
Have the following available:
- Government-issued photo ID.
- Order confirmation.
- Payment card used for the order, if requested.
- The ready notification and the phone or app used for check-in, when applicable.
Best Buy says employees may verify identity using different methods. Curbside availability varies by store and by order, so do not assume that every item or location offers it. If the order’s instructions direct you inside, use the Store Pickup area instead of waiting in a parking space.

Warehouse pickup can have different operating hours and handling procedures from a regular retail store. Check the warehouse schedule in the pickup confirmation or Order Details; the store’s ordinary hours may not be the warehouse’s hours.
Bring all three of these items:
- Government-issued photo ID.
- The credit card used to pay for the order.
- Order number.
Prepare the vehicle before arrival. Bring appropriate materials to secure the packaged item during transport, and make sure the vehicle can accommodate the package rather than only the unboxed product. If loading help or a particular entrance is described in the order instructions, follow those directions.
Why package dimensions matter
Boxes, protective foam, pallets, and other packaging can make an item larger than its advertised product dimensions. Measure the vehicle’s door opening, hatch or trunk opening, interior height, and usable length. Account for the space needed to close the vehicle safely and keep the package from moving.
Phones and devices purchased with a plan
For a phone or mobile device connected to a service plan, the person named on the contract must be present. An alternate pickup person who is not the contract holder should not be sent in their place.

Large-item pickups
Large products require the same order verification as other pickups, plus realistic transport planning. Before leaving, determine:
- Whether the packaged item fits through the vehicle’s doors or hatch.
- Whether the cargo area can support the package without blocking safe visibility or operation.
- How the package will be kept from sliding, tipping, or falling during transport.
- Whether a second adult is needed to load or unload it safely.
Allow extra time at the location. A large-item handoff may take longer than a small package, and warehouse or loading instructions may direct you to a different area than the ordinary pickup desk.

New Best Buy Credit Card used for the order
If you paid with a newly opened Best Buy Credit Card but have not received the physical card, tell the store associate when you arrive. This situation is specifically addressed in Best Buy’s pickup guidance; do not leave the card issue unexplained at the counter.
How long Best Buy holds a pickup order
Best Buy says standard store-pickup items are held for five days. If you do not collect the order within that period, Best Buy says it cancels the order and refunds the payment method.
If you need additional time, open Order Details and look for an extension option. An extension is not guaranteed for every order, so request it before the five-day holding period expires.
Ship-to-store orders
Items marked for ship-to-store usually arrive within three to seven business days. That is an arrival estimate before the pickup-ready step, not a promise that an order placed today is immediately available. Wait for the separate readiness notice even when the estimated arrival window has passed.
When the usual checklist is not enough
You have the confirmation but no ready notice
Do not travel based only on the order confirmation. Check Order Details for the current status and read any updated instructions. If the status does not show that the item is ready, the store may not have completed processing it.

Look in the order details associated with the Best Buy account or in the order messages. If you still cannot access it, resolve that issue before leaving; the standard pickup instruction requires the order number along with identification.
The designated pickup person is unavailable
Change the pickup person through Order Details, if the order allows that change, and give the new person’s information before the visit. The replacement person should carry their own ID and the order number. Check the product exclusions before relying on this option.
The store appears closed
Compare the location’s hours with the warehouse or curbside instructions in the order. Warehouse hours can differ from retail-store hours, and curbside may have its own availability. Use the current order instructions rather than assuming all pickup services follow the same schedule.
The vehicle cannot safely carry the item
Do not attempt an unsafe load. Recheck the packaged dimensions and vehicle capacity, then arrange a suitable vehicle or ask the location about the instructions attached to the order. A product that fits on paper may not pass through the vehicle opening once boxed.
