In practical terms, certification means a particular product has gone through testing and compliance checks for the requirements that apply to its certification category. THX’s program description refers to strict performance tolerances, qualitative testing and functionality testing. The process can involve product development, consultation, measurements, tuning settings built into a product, retail auditing and a certification decision when the required standards are met. The designation is therefore more meaningful than a manufacturer simply saying that a speaker sounds good. It signals that the product was assessed against a defined THX standard. It does not mean THX has measured every use case, that the product is the loudest or most accurate option available, or that every listener will prefer its tonal balance.
Certification is product-specific
Look for the certification claim attached to the exact model and variant you are considering. A company’s partnership with THX, or another product in the same family carrying a THX mark, does not automatically certify every soundbar the company sells. Marketing pages can mention several THX technologies together, so read the wording next to the model name rather than inferring status from a logo or a brand relationship.
What the testing claim does not promise
THX’s certification language is a performance and compliance claim. It is not a guarantee of a particular listening preference. Room acoustics, placement, volume, source quality, game mix and equalizer settings still affect what you hear. A certified soundbar can be a sensible shortlist candidate while another non-certified model may better suit your room or preferred sound.

These terms are easy to confuse because they can appear in the same product announcement. They refer to different things:

THX explicitly distinguishes “Tuned by THX” from certification on its program page. Tuning can help engineers calibrate an existing design; certification is the separate award given when a product meets the relevant requirements. Spatial Audio is a processing feature, not a substitute name for either designation.
How THX certification is established
THX’s published description gives a useful high-level view of the path from development to certification. The exact tests and tolerances can vary by product type, and the public overview does not provide a soundbar-specific scorecard.
- Product development: The manufacturer develops the speaker, electronics, firmware and controls that will be evaluated.
- Engineering consultation: THX can advise on design choices and target performance during development.
- Laboratory and functional testing: The product is checked against the applicable requirements. THX describes both quantitative performance checks and qualitative or functionality tests, and says its engineers conduct hundreds of tests.
- Tuning and calibration: Settings or engineering adjustments may be used to bring the product into compliance. This part of the process should not be confused with the separate “Tuned by THX” offering.
- Compliance review: Results are compared with the required tolerances and other conditions for the certification category.
- Retail auditing and certification: THX’s process description includes auditing in the retail chain. Certification is awarded when the applicable standards are met.
This process is why the mark can be useful as a screening signal: it represents more than an untested claim on a box. However, THX’s overview does not publish one universal pass/fail number that lets you rank all certified soundbars, nor does it provide a comparative test result for the Leviathan V2 in the sources cited here.
What the Leviathan V2 example tells you
The terminology around the Razer Leviathan V2 shows why careful reading matters. THX’s Razer page calls the Leviathan V2 the first soundbar to feature THX Spatial Audio. They do not support calling the model THX Certified. The official materials cited for this model identify Spatial Audio, but they do not establish a THX Certified designation for the Leviathan V2. Treat that as a meaningful distinction when comparing listings or retailer copy.

Feature availability can depend on software
For the Leviathan V2, the guide identifies THX Spatial Audio as PC-based through Razer Synapse. That means the feature is not simply a hardware behavior that works identically from every input. You need the supported computer, the Synapse software and the correct configuration for the processing path. A console, television or phone connection may still produce sound through the hardware, but the cited guide does not establish that the same Spatial Audio processing is available on those platforms.

Before buying, separate four questions: Is the exact model certified? What audio feature is included? Which operating systems and applications activate it? Which physical inputs and wireless standards does the soundbar support? Certification answers only the first question. The Leviathan V2’s Bluetooth 5.2 specification and PC/Synapse requirement answer parts of the other questions, but they are independent of certification.

Processing is not the same as speaker placement
Spatial processing can alter timing, filtering and channel presentation to create positional cues. It does not turn a soundbar into a physically separate surround-speaker system. Your desk or room, the bar’s placement and the game’s own audio mix still influence imaging. Certification, where present, should be read as a performance-standard result rather than a promise that virtual effects will sound identical in every setup.
How to verify a THX claim before purchase
- Read the exact wording: “THX Certified,” “THX Spatial Audio” and “Tuned by THX” are not interchangeable. Copy the phrase attached to the model, not a general headline about the brand.
- Check the manufacturer’s model page: Confirm the model number, included hardware and the name of the THX technology. For the Leviathan V2, the manufacturer calls it a soundbar and subwoofer with THX Spatial Audio.
- Open the technical guide: Look for operating-system, application and connection requirements. The Leviathan V2 guide places Spatial Audio on PC through Razer Synapse and references Windows 10 64-bit.
- Confirm your intended source: Decide whether you will use a Windows PC, another computer, a console, a television or Bluetooth. A feature documented for one path should not be assumed on another.
- Verify the exact variant: Regional bundles and later revisions can have different included accessories or software support. Match the model number in the listing to the manufacturer’s documentation.
- Ask what is being certified: If a seller uses “certified,” look for the specific THX designation and model rather than accepting a generic THX logo.

“A THX partnership certifies the whole product range.”
Correction: Certification or a THX feature belongs to the specified product and configuration. Verify each model independently.
“Hundreds of tests” is a score that can rank soundbars.
Correction: THX uses that phrase to describe the breadth of its engineering evaluation, but it does not publish a precise count or a soundbar-specific comparative score in the cited overview. Do not turn it into a numerical ranking.
How to use the label in a buying decision
Use THX Certification as one filter in a larger decision, not as the entire decision. If a soundbar is certified, the mark can increase confidence that it met the relevant THX performance requirements. Then check whether its physical design suits your desk or room, whether the subwoofer can be placed where you need it, and whether its inputs match your devices.
