The familiar tune most Samsung washers play at the end of a wash is a cycle-completion notification. It does not, by itself, mean the machine has a fault. Samsung washers can also make separate sounds for power, button presses, and certain alerts, and the available sound controls depend on the model, control panel, and market.
What does the Samsung washer tune mean?
When the tune plays as a wash finishes, it is the cycle-completion melody: an audible notification that the program has ended. Samsung describes it as an alarm sound, not a fault code. Its UK guide also distinguishes the completion melody from other program and operating sounds: Samsung washing machine cycles and program settings.

Samsung does not establish one universal tune name, composer, musical origin, or sound file for every washer. The exact sound may differ by model; the phrase “jolly little tune” is an owner’s description, not an official Samsung name.

Depending on the washer, audible events can include power-on and power-off sounds, button or touch tones, the cycle-end melody, and AddWash alerts on applicable models. A setting that turns off the completion alarm may leave other sounds enabled. Samsung Australia says its alarm function can affect the cycle-completion melody, power-off beep, and AddWash alarm on applicable models, while other sounds may be controlled separately. How to turn down or disable the melody
There is no single button combination that applies to every Samsung washer. Check the model number and use the manual for that exact machine and market before trying a control sequence.
- Find the exact model number. Check the washer’s product label or the details in its documentation.
- Look up the model’s user manual. Search its sound, alarm, or end-of-cycle sections for the documented control. Samsung US says sound adjustment is available only on select models; its support guidance states: “If the user manual does not contain instructions on how to toggle the sound, then your model does not have the feature.” See Samsung US’s guide to adjusting alarm sounds and chimes.
- Use the documented control for your panel. On some US models, the control may be labeled Alarm Off, Super Speed, or Extra Rinse. If sound is a secondary function, Samsung says to hold the relevant button for three seconds. Some Australian panels use a bell or crossed-out speaker icon; a button, or two buttons together, may need to be held for three seconds. These examples are not universal.
- For a Simple UX panel, follow its menu instructions. Samsung Australia describes holding the hand icon, selecting Alarm with the navigation dial, and toggling it. Use this only if it matches your washer’s panel and manual.
- Check the screen or SmartThings if supported. On some screen-equipped Bespoke Combo models, Samsung US says Settings may offer Sound mode, Sound theme, or Volume. Some SmartThings-compatible washers may expose a Sounds switch, volume slider, or end-of-cycle alarm setting in the app. Compatibility alone does not guarantee those controls will appear; check the washer’s manual and actual app settings.
What to expect after changing the setting
Depending on the model and the particular setting, disabling the completion alarm may silence only that notification or a broader set of alarm sounds. It does not necessarily mute button tones or every operational sound. If the steps in the manual do not match the control panel, do not assume a different model’s button combination will work; consult the manual for the washer’s exact model and region.
