Why is there a lock on my PS5 game?
The padlock is an access signal, not a diagnosis. The game may belong to a different account, depend on an active PlayStation Plus entitlement, or be unavailable to the current user because of sharing settings. How to unlock a locked game on PS5
Work through these checks in order. The menu wording below reflects PlayStation’s US English support guidance; labels and availability can vary by region or change with software updates.
1. Confirm the account and purchase
Sign in to the account that bought the digital game, then check that account’s transaction history to confirm the purchase completed. A game purchased by someone else is not automatically available to every user on the console; check the sharing settings in the next step. 2. Check PlayStation Plus access
If you accessed the game through PlayStation Plus, confirm that the membership is active and that the title is still available through the relevant PlayStation Plus offering. Both conditions matter: access can depend on the membership and the game’s continued availability. 3. Check Console Sharing and Offline Play
If a different account owns the game, that account may share purchased and downloaded games with other users on one PS5 by enabling Console Sharing and Offline Play on that console. On the PS5 used for sharing, open Settings > Users and Accounts > Other > Console Sharing and Offline Play. PlayStation says the feature is automatically allowed on the first PS5 used to sign in and can be enabled on one PS5 at a time. It also allows other users on that console to play the enabling account’s eligible games and media offline and use some PlayStation Plus benefits. When moving sharing to a new PS5, disable it on the previous console first. If you cannot access the old console, PlayStation offers remote deactivation through Account Management; all devices can be remotely deactivated only once every six months. 4. Check services, connection, and system software
Look at the PlayStation status page for a service alert, confirm the console is running current system software, and check the internet connection. If appropriate, restart the PS5 and router, then try launching the game again. These checks can address verification problems, but they do not change which account owns the game. 5. Restore the game license
On PS5, go to Settings > Users and Accounts > Other > Restore Licenses, then select the relevant license. You can also highlight the game on the home screen or in the library, press the Options button, and choose Restore License.
