The Camera in ARC Raiders is an in-game Quick Use gadget for taking objective photos and selfies. You need it when a quest or project asks for a picture; you do not need to buy or connect a real-world camera. For the current Sizing Things Up quest, use the Basic Camera to photograph the lower leg of the fallen Emperor from the bridge directly east of Old Town. Celeste provides a Basic Camera when she gives you the quest, although you can also scavenge, craft, or purchase one.
What the Camera does
The Basic Camera lets your Raider capture photographs and selfies. Its important gameplay role is objective completion: when a quest says to take a photo, equip the Camera as a Quick Use gadget and frame the requested subject in the game world. It is an inventory item, not a piece of external hardware or a general-purpose device for taking screenshots outside the game.

Camera objectives are usually deliberately specific. The target, viewpoint, or landmark named by the objective matters. Pointing the lens at a similar-looking object may not satisfy the requirement, even if the subject is visible nearby. Read the active objective before leaving for the location, then use the map marker and the wording of the objective to choose your position.

| Item | Rarity and class | Documented function | How to obtain it |
|---|---|---|---|
| Basic Camera | Uncommon; Quick Use gadget | Take pictures and selfies | Granted by Sizing Things Up and Taking Stock; scavenged; crafted at Workbench 1 with 8 Plastic Parts and 1 Wire; bought from Shani for 1,920, with three listed per day |
| Advanced Camera | Rare; Quick Use gadget | Does everything the Basic Camera does “and more”; the additional function is not specified in the item reference | Bought from Shani for 3,000, with three listed per day; crafted at Utility Station 1 with a learned blueprint, 1 Camera Lens, 1 Calculator, and 1 Electrical Components; available through the Free Reward Pass |
The Basic Camera is usually the practical choice for a new objective because the quest itself can supply it. Before spending materials or coins, open your inventory after accepting the quest and check the Quick Use section. A camera you already received may be waiting there.

Crafting the Basic Camera
To make one yourself, use a Workbench 1 recipe requiring exactly 8 Plastic Parts and 1 Wire. This is an alternative to scavenging or buying from Shani. The recipe does not require an advanced station, so it can be useful when a trader’s listed stock is unavailable or you want to preserve coins.
Buying from Shani
Shani lists the Basic Camera for 1,920 in-game currency and the Advanced Camera for 3,000. The item references list three of each camera per day. Treat that as the displayed daily stock rather than an unlimited supply; if the item is missing, check again after the trader’s stock refreshes or use another acquisition route.
Scavenging and quest rewards
Scavenging can produce a Basic Camera. The quest pages also list Basic Camera rewards for Sizing Things Up and Taking Stock. These rewards make it unnecessary to prepare a camera in advance for every player, but carrying a spare can save a trip when several photo objectives are active.

When to use the Camera
Equip the gadget only when the active quest or project explicitly asks for a photo. A camera is not presented as a combat tool, traversal item, or requirement for ordinary exploration. If no objective calls for an image, keeping another Quick Use item equipped may be more useful.
Photo tasks can appear in individual quests and in larger projects. The wording normally identifies the subject, while the map or objective marker helps you find the area. Do not assume that owning the Advanced Camera unlocks a different class of mission: the documented description only says that it performs the Basic Camera’s functions “and more.”
How to complete “Sizing Things Up”
Sizing Things Up is the clearest example of when the Camera matters. Celeste’s acceptance dialogue says, “Do some reconnaissance around that fallen Emperor, see that you stay safe.” The quest then asks you to photograph the Emperor’s leg.

- Accept the quest from Celeste. The quest reward includes a Basic Camera. Check your inventory before crafting or purchasing another one.
- Read the photo objective. Confirm that the requested subject is the Emperor’s leg, rather than treating the task as a general photograph of the area.
- Travel to Old Town. Use the quest marker and surrounding landmarks to orient yourself.
- Find the bridge directly east of Old Town. The walkthrough published by PC Gamer on 8 October 2026 identifies this bridge as the intended photo position.
- Face the lower portion of the Emperor’s leg. The same walkthrough specifies the lower leg. Move along the bridge or adjust your aim until that section is clearly framed, rather than aiming at the upper body or a distant structure.
- Equip the Basic Camera in a Quick Use slot. Use the on-screen prompt or the gadget key bound on your platform. Camera button labels can vary with platform and custom controls, so the game’s current prompt takes precedence over a generic keyboard instruction.
- Take the picture and watch the objective tracker. If the task does not register, remain at the bridge, recheck that Sizing Things Up is active, and retarget the lower leg from the east-of-Old-Town bridge position.
The location detail is important: the objective is not simply “find the Emperor anywhere.” The documented solution ties the photo to the bridge east of Old Town and to the lower part of the leg. Taking the image from the wrong side, at the wrong landmark, or with the wrong section of the body centered can leave the objective incomplete even when the Emperor is visible.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:

An update summary on the Arc Raiders Community page, citing Embark Studios’ “Frozen Trail – 2.0 Update” dated 8 October 2026, lists additional photo objectives. They include the Outpost unlock project’s farmland-house photo and objectives associated with Battening Down, Groundbreaking, Life of a Pharmacist, Reduced to Rubble, and The League.
That summary does not provide every location, camera angle, or control prompt for those tasks. Use the active objective text and its current map marker rather than transferring the Emperor’s-leg solution to another quest. Projects and quest behavior can change with patches, so an objective that looks different after an update should be solved from the wording and marker shown in your current build.

Basic versus Advanced Camera
| Comparison point | Basic Camera | Advanced Camera |
|---|---|---|
| Rarity | Uncommon | Rare |
| Class | Quick Use gadget | Quick Use gadget |
| Documented capability | Pictures and selfies | Everything the Basic Camera does “and more” |
| Shani price | 1,920; three listed per day | 3,000; three listed per day |
| Crafting route | Workbench 1: 8 Plastic Parts and 1 Wire | Utility Station 1: learned blueprint, 1 Camera Lens, 1 Calculator, and 1 Electrical Components |
| Other documented sources | Quest rewards for Sizing Things Up and Taking Stock; scavenging | Free Reward Pass |
The Advanced Camera costs more and has a higher rarity, but the available item description does not identify the extra capability. It does not establish zoom, improved image quality, combat utility, a wider detection radius, or any other specific advantage. Do not spend rare components solely on those assumptions. Check the current in-game description and your progression goals before committing to the Utility Station recipe.
Which camera should you carry?
- For Sizing Things Up or another ordinary photo objective: use the Basic Camera. Its documented functions are sufficient, and the quest may already grant one.
- When you have no camera and need one immediately: compare the Workbench recipe, Shani’s listed stock, and scavenging. The fastest option depends on which materials and currency you currently have.
- When considering the Advanced Camera: first confirm that you have learned its blueprint and can access Utility Station 1. Buy or craft it for its documented availability and rarity only after checking what the current game client says its additional function does.
- When preparing for multiple objectives: keep at least one camera available, but remember that the camera occupies a Quick Use slot and may compete with another gadget you use for survival or movement.
Troubleshooting a camera objective
The quest is active, but no camera appears
Open the inventory and inspect the Quick Use gadgets before crafting. Sizing Things Up grants a Basic Camera, and Taking Stock is also listed as a source. If the reward is not present, use the Basic Camera’s Workbench 1 recipe, look for one while scavenging, or check Shani’s displayed stock.
The photograph does not register
Return to the objective wording and verify three things: the correct quest is active, the requested subject is in frame, and you are at the specified landmark. For Sizing Things Up, that means the bridge directly east of Old Town and the lower portion of the Emperor’s leg. Reposition rather than aiming at the upper leg, the surrounding ruins, or a different bridge.
Best Value
Shani does not have the item
Her listing is limited to three cameras per day for each model in the item reference. If the displayed stock is gone, use the Basic Camera recipe or scavenging instead of waiting at the trader. The Basic Camera requires only 8 Plastic Parts and 1 Wire at Workbench 1.
The Advanced Camera recipe cannot be selected
The Advanced recipe requires three conditions beyond materials: a Utility Station 1, a learned blueprint, and the listed components—1 Camera Lens, 1 Calculator, and 1 Electrical Components. Missing the blueprint or station access prevents the recipe even if the components are in storage.
You are unsure which button takes the picture
The item references identify the Camera as a Quick Use gadget but do not provide one universal key for every platform. Follow the active on-screen prompt and review your platform’s control bindings if the gadget does not activate. A remapped control can differ from default instructions found in a guide.

What the Camera is not for
- It is not a requirement to own a physical camera, phone attachment, or capture card.
- It is not documented as a weapon, scanner, zoom tool, or combat booster.
- It does not automatically solve every photo objective; the requested subject and viewpoint still determine whether the task completes.
- The Advanced model’s higher rarity does not, by itself, prove a particular image-quality or gameplay benefit.
Practical preparation before a photo run
- Read the entire objective and note the subject, landmark, and any directional wording.
- Check the Quick Use inventory for a Basic Camera supplied by a quest.
- If you need to craft one, confirm Workbench 1 access and gather 8 Plastic Parts plus 1 Wire.
- Set the camera to an accessible Quick Use slot and verify the bound control before entering a dangerous area.
- Travel using the current map marker, then frame the exact part of the subject named by the objective.
- Wait for the objective tracker to acknowledge the image before moving away from the location.
For Sizing Things Up, this preparation is deliberately simple: accept Celeste’s quest, check for the granted Basic Camera, go to the bridge east of Old Town, and photograph the Emperor’s lower leg. For later projects, follow the same process but treat each marker and description as its own requirement.
Bottom line
The Camera is a quest-focused Quick Use gadget for photographs and selfies. The Basic Camera is enough for the documented Sizing Things Up objective and can be granted, scavenged, crafted, or bought. Use it when the active objective requests a photo, and for the Emperor task, take the lower-leg picture from the bridge directly east of Old Town. The Advanced Camera is rarer and more expensive, but its additional function has not been specifically documented, so verify its current in-game description before investing in it.
