The Bessemer Black Saucepan 20cm (item BES-1037709) is a cast-aluminium pan with a triple-layer non-stick interior and a stainless-steel induction plate. It is intended for everyday jobs such as sauces, rice, vegetables and reheating soup. Two details need checking before you buy or use one: CHOICE lists a 2.5L capacity, which the manufacturer does not state, and the sources disagree on the maximum oven temperature.
What the Bessemer 20cm saucepan is
This is the black saucepan, not a similarly sized frypan. Bessemer lists its body as 20cm across and 10cm high, with the lid excluded from those measurements. Its construction is cast aluminium, and the manufacturer says the interior has three non-stick layers using what it describes as European ceramic fusion technology. These are product specifications and marketing descriptions, not independent findings.

The manufacturer says a magnetic stainless-steel plate on the base makes the pan suitable for all cooktops, including induction. Its listed country of manufacture is China. See the Bessemer product page for the model-specific description.

The manufacturer’s product page does not state a volume. CHOICE’s public listing gives a stated capacity of 2.5L, a weight of 1.9kg and a base thickness of 0.5cm; these are listing specifications, not CHOICE test results. The accessible listing does not state its publication year.

| Detail | What the sources say |
|---|---|
| Body dimensions | 20 × 10cm, excluding lid (Bessemer) |
| Stated capacity | 2.5L (CHOICE); not stated on Bessemer’s product page |
| Weight | 1.9kg (CHOICE listing) |
| Base thickness | 0.5cm (CHOICE listing) |
| Maximum oven temperature | 180°C (Bessemer); 220°C (CHOICE) |
The oven limit is not consistent across the two sources, and neither explains the difference. Do not assume the higher figure applies to your pan: check the current instructions supplied with the exact model or confirm the limit with Bessemer before putting it in an oven.
What you can cook in it
Bessemer suggests using the pan for sauces, vegetables, rice and heating soup. A 20cm saucepan is positioned in its collection as an everyday size with more room than its 18cm option. The collection also includes a 24cm option, but the available listing does not provide a complete set of comparable capacities, weights or other specifications, so size alone is not enough to infer exact serving capacity.

The dimensions do not include a lid. Bessemer says a separate 20cm non-stick universal lid can be paired with the saucepan for its “oven-effect cooking” feature; confirm the lid’s size and compatibility when purchasing. Do not assume it comes with the pan.

What independent evidence does—and does not—show
CHOICE has a product listing for this saucepan, but its scores and test results are behind member access on the public page. The visible specifications do not establish how the pan performed in testing. No hands-on performance testing is available here, and the manufacturer’s non-stick and cooktop descriptions should be treated as claims rather than independent verification.

Bessemer’s product page displayed a 4.9/5 rating from 39 reviews at the time reflected in the available search result. That is a dynamic, seller-hosted rating, not an independent product test; customer comments included praise for size, cooking and cleaning, as well as a note that the pan felt substantial in weight and a report of a coating defect addressed by customer service. The count and rating can change.

Bessemer’s saucepan collection shows 18cm, 20cm and 24cm options. Its description frames the 20cm size as offering more room than the 18cm pan, but the collection information does not support a full like-for-like comparison of capacity, weight, oven limit or included accessories. Review those specifications for the exact size and model rather than assuming they scale in a particular way.
