Steel Cables are a crafting resource for Outpost construction or upgrades and for making Ziplines in Arc Raiders. Player reports from the week of 8 October 2026 also say Snap Hooks began requiring Steel Cable, while some crafting locations or skills may still show Rope-based recipes. Because no complete official recipe table or patch note confirms the change, treat the exact requirement shown on your current crafting screen as authoritative.
What Steel Cables do
Steel Cable is a relatively uncommon material used in several progression and traversal recipes. Current guides consistently associate it with two broad jobs:
As an Amazon Associate I earn from qualifying purchases.
- Outpost construction and upgrades: Steel Cables can be required when you build or improve sections of your Outpost. The available information does not establish a single cable cost for every section, so check each construction panel rather than budgeting from a general estimate.
- Zipline crafting: Guides also list Steel Cable as a material for Ziplines. Ziplines provide a traversal option, making cables useful for mobility as well as base progression.
Players additionally report that Snap Hooks started requiring Steel Cable after a recent recipe change. That report is not confirmed by official patch notes, and the requirement may depend on the crafting context or the game build you are playing. If your screen shows Rope, Mechanical Components, or another combination instead, use the live recipe displayed in-game.

Several reports describe a split between recipes available in the base and recipes available during a raid. A player discussion said the base Zipline recipe changed to use Steel Cable, while in-raid crafting still used Rope at the time of posting. Another player said the Nomadic crafting option can make a Zipline with Mechanical Components plus Rope instead of Steel Cable.

These observations do not prove that the game intentionally has three permanent recipes. They could reflect a skill effect, a location-specific recipe, a staged update, or a bug. No official source identified which game version introduced the difference or explained whether it is intended. The practical rule is to inspect the recipe immediately before crafting in each location:
- Open the crafting interface in your Raider Den or other base area and select the item.
- Record the materials and quantities shown for that location.
- If you have access to in-raid crafting, open the same item there and compare the displayed ingredients.
- Check whether the Nomadic skill or another active upgrade changes the recipe.
- Craft only after confirming that the screen is consuming the material you intend to spend.
Do not assume that an older guide’s Rope recipe or a community post’s Steel Cable recipe applies universally. The recipe shown by your current build is more useful than a static list published before the recent change.
Current uses and confidence level
| Use | What is established | What remains uncertain |
|---|---|---|
| Outpost sections and upgrades | Current guides identify Steel Cable as a required construction material. | The exact quantity for each section or upgrade is not established. |
| Zipline | Current guides identify Steel Cable as a Zipline material. | The recipe may differ between base crafting, in-raid crafting, and Nomadic crafting. |
| Snap Hook | Players report a recent change that added Steel Cable. | No official recipe table confirms the requirement or its introduction date. |
| Crafting Steel Cable itself | No source establishes a general player recipe that creates Steel Cable. | Check your current benches for any newly added conversion recipe; do not infer one from recipes that merely consume cable. |
Where to find Steel Cables
Pendola Pass loot
A current guide identifies Pendola Pass as a source map. Steel Cables may appear as environmental loot or inside containers there. The available information does not provide an official spawn table, fixed route, or guaranteed container type, so a run through one location cannot establish that the item is absent from the map.

Player-suggested locations
Players have named Cielo Serrano Observatory, Almatera Station, and Supermarket as places worth checking. These are tips rather than guaranteed farms. Container contents and spawn locations can change, and another player finding a cable at one site does not ensure that your next raid will produce one there.

Use these locations as a search order, not as promises:
- Enter Pendola Pass with enough inventory space for bulky materials and ordinary container loot.
- Search the named player-reported locations when they are on your route, beginning with the area that best matches your objective.
- Check both visible environmental pickups and containers; the reports do not establish that one category is exclusive.
- Leave or extract once you have the cable you need if the remaining risk is greater than the value of additional searching.
Buying from Celeste
A player in the recipe discussion reported that Celeste sold one Steel Cable for 10 Seeds, with a limited refresh. This price and availability were not confirmed by an official source and may no longer be current. Open Celeste’s live inventory before planning a purchase; verify the number of cables, the Seed price, and whether the stock refreshes before spending currency.
Can you craft Steel Cable, or only loot it?
The evidence currently supports Steel Cable as a material you find in the world or potentially buy from a vendor, not as a confirmed player-made item. The reports about Nomadic crafting are about making a Zipline from Mechanical Components and Rope; they do not describe turning materials into Steel Cable.

To check your own build without relying on an old guide, search the crafting menus for “Steel Cable” as an output rather than as an ingredient. If no recipe lists it in the result slot, assume you must obtain it through loot or a live vendor offer. A recipe that lists Steel Cable among its ingredients answers a different question: it consumes cable but does not manufacture it.

Choosing between ways to obtain or conserve cables
| Method | Availability and certainty | Known cost | Skill or location requirement | Best use |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Loot on Pendola Pass | Reported by a current guide; exact spawns are not guaranteed. | No Seed cost; raid risk and time apply. | Requires access to Pendola Pass and a successful search or extraction. | Default option when you need several materials and can accept normal raid risk. |
| Search Cielo Serrano Observatory, Almatera Station, or Supermarket | Player-suggested locations, not guaranteed farms. | No direct Seed cost; route and risk vary. | Requires those sites to be on the available route. | Focused checks when you are already near one of the reported areas. |
| Buy from Celeste | Player-reported limited stock; current availability is unverified. | Reported as 10 Seeds for one cable, subject to change. | Requires Celeste’s live inventory and enough Seeds. | Convenient when the item is in stock and a raid would be inefficient. |
| Nomadic Zipline recipe | Player-reported alternative for making a Zipline, not a source of Steel Cable. | Mechanical Components plus Rope, with quantities determined by the live recipe. | Requires the Nomadic crafting option or skill and the appropriate crafting context. | Conserves Steel Cable when the alternative appears on your screen. |
No reliable source establishes which method is fastest, the average number of cables per raid, or the long-term Seed efficiency. Treat those comparisons as build-dependent rather than as fixed farming mathematics.
How to spend cables without wasting them
Check the destination before committing
Open the Outpost panel or the specific item recipe and identify the exact quantity required. Because costs for individual Outpost parts are not established, do not withdraw your entire stock based on a remembered number. If the upgrade is not urgent, keep at least one cable available for a traversal recipe you may need during the next raid.
Use an alternative Zipline recipe when it is actually available
If the Nomadic option displays Mechanical Components and Rope, it can preserve Steel Cable for an Outpost project. This is a conditional choice: the report does not establish that every player, mode, or location receives that recipe. Confirm the ingredients and quantities in your own interface before gathering around the alternative.

A Rope-based in-raid recipe reported by players does not automatically make Rope a replacement for base crafting. Before entering a raid, decide whether you are making the item in the field or returning to the base. Carrying Steel Cable for an item that the live in-raid panel makes with Rope wastes inventory space; assuming Rope will work at the base can leave an Outpost project blocked.

Keep a written or screenshot record after an update
Recipe changes can make old notes misleading. After a patch, capture the displayed ingredients for the Zipline, Snap Hook, and any Outpost part you use often. Record the crafting location and active skill with each note so a base recipe is not confused with an in-raid or Nomadic one.

“The guide says Rope, but my recipe says Steel Cable.”
Use the live recipe. The discrepancy is consistent with the recent player-reported change. Confirm whether you are in the base or in a raid, check active skills, and verify that the item name is the same before assuming the game is malfunctioning.
“I found no cable at a reported location.”
The named sites are suggestions, not guaranteed spawn points. Search other containers and environmental loot on Pendola Pass, then try a later run. A single empty location does not invalidate the broader map report.

The 10-Seed price was a player report, not a confirmed permanent price. Inspect the current inventory and refresh state. The vendor may have different stock, a different price, or no cable at all in your build.

“My Outpost upgrade needs more cables than I expected.”
Exact quantities differ by part, and no complete public table establishes every cost. Open the specific upgrade panel, note its current requirement, and make a targeted loot run rather than relying on a generic cable count.
“I cannot find a recipe that makes Steel Cable.”
No general Steel Cable manufacturing recipe is established by the available reports. Search for Steel Cable as an output in each relevant bench. If it never appears, plan to obtain it through Pendola Pass loot or a live Celeste offer.
What may change next
The recipe split and Snap Hook requirement are based on community observations during the week of 8 October 2026. There are no surfaced official patch notes that document the change, and no authoritative recipe table confirms whether the differences are intentional. Future updates could standardize the recipes, move Steel Cable to another item, change vendor stock, or alter Pendola Pass loot.
