The Starship infographic featured by Futurism on May 31, 2024, illustrated SpaceX’s planned fourth integrated Starship/Super Heavy flight test. Scheduled for no earlier than June 5, 2024, pending regulatory approval, the mission was meant to move beyond simply reaching orbit and demonstrate how both stages could return for future reuse.
What the infographic was showing
The artwork by Lunar Caveman and Tony Bela presented a visual sequence for the then-upcoming Flight 4. It was an independent artist-created visualization, not a SpaceX technical mission document; Futurism said the artists were not, as far as it could tell, SpaceX employees.

Bela described the appeal of the format this way: “What I love about a good infographic is its ability to tell the story without words.” The published package included a detailed text version and a desktop-wallpaper version with less text.
Flight 4’s planned sequence
1. Liftoff from Starbase
Starship and its Super Heavy first stage were planned to launch together from SpaceX’s Starbase facility in Texas.
#1 Best Overall
- A COMPLETE LAUNCH-PAD SCENE: This starship model adds a tower, capture arms and storage-tank details around the rocket for a more immersive desktop display.
- MIST AND RED LIGHT IGNITION EFFECT: The built-in humidifier and LEDs work together beneath the rocket to simulate a dramatic launch plume without heat or propulsion.
- SIMPLE RESERVOIR CARE: The integrated water system is straightforward to operate; refill as needed and wipe the atomizing plate regularly to limit mineral buildup.
- HIGH-DETAIL 3D-PRINTED STRUCTURE: Contrasting silver, black and white components make the launch system easy to examine from multiple angles in offices, classrooms and exhibits.
- A DISPLAY GIFT FOR SPACE ENTHUSIASTS: Suited to adult collectors, engineers and students; place on a stable surface and handle the fine tower and arm details carefully.
2. Hot-stage separation
After separation, Starship would continue its flight while Super Heavy began its return operations. The hot-stage adapter was to be jettisoned during the booster’s return, reducing mass for the final phase of the maneuver.
3. Super Heavy boostback and recovery attempt
The booster was expected to perform a boostback maneuver and follow a return trajectory toward its planned ocean landing area. This was an attempted recovery sequence, not a guaranteed tower catch or a demonstrated operational capability.
Rank #2
- Basic Parameters: The SpaceX rocket model is at a 1:144 scale, with a height of 13.4 inches. It is made from durable plastic material and features exquisite surface details
- Package Contents: The rocket model comes in an exquisite gift box and includes a sturdy bracket with a recovery ship pattern. It is perfect as a living room decoration or a gift
- Product Features: All four flaps are movable. It weighs 1.1 pounds and has a great feel. The surface paint is fine and the details are handled excellently
- SpaceX History: The Starship has a reusable feature and boasts the largest payload capacity in the world. With multiple and rapid iterations and upgrades, the Starship is on the verge of a successful launch and recovery
- Best Gift for Boys: This model is an excellent gift for aerospace enthusiasts, making it a fantastic birthday present and keepsake. It is suitable for display in the living room, study, or office
4. Starship coast and reentry
The upper stage would coast across the Atlantic and over southern Africa before beginning its descent toward the Indian Ocean. The plan called for Starship to survive atmospheric reentry and reach its designated splashdown zone.
5. Two planned splashdowns
The mission profile ended with intended ocean splashdowns: Super Heavy on its return path and Starship in the Indian Ocean. These were demonstration objectives for a future reusable system, rather than routine recoveries.

- Name:1/375 Starship Material::Alloy+resin
- Size:Approximately 32x5cm (12.5*2inch) Function: Static desktop display
- For collection or display, Not suitable for children to play with Handmade, there may be minor flaws
- Model is a highly Simulated SpaceX Falcon9 Dragon+F9 Starship Heavy Falcon Falcon 9 Biock 5 rocket model. The main body of the first-stage rocket is precision aluminum alloy tube, and the rest of the rocket materials are made of high-quality imported resin-with excellent laser forming ability and long-lasting preservation
Why reusability was the central objective
SpaceX said Flight 4 would “turn our focus from achieving orbit to demonstrating the ability to return and reuse Starship and Super Heavy.” That changed the emphasis from ascent alone to the difficult parts that follow it: controlled stage separation, booster return, atmospheric reentry and survivable ocean arrivals.
Reusability matters because a launch system cannot support rapid, lower-cost flight operations if its stages are discarded after every mission. Flight 4’s profile therefore treated the return of both vehicles as the main engineering story, even though the planned splashdowns were not the same as recovering intact stages for immediate relaunch.
Rank #4
- LAUNCH EFFECT WITH REAL MIST: This starship model combines a fine-mist humidifier and red LEDs at the base to recreate the visual drama of a rocket ignition sequence.
- DISPLAY AND FUNCTION IN ONE: Use it as a space model, atmospheric desk accent or compact personal humidifier in a study, office, dorm or creative workspace.
- SIMPLE WATER AND BUTTON OPERATION: Add water to the reservoir and activate the coordinated light-and-mist effect; clean the atomizing area regularly for consistent output.
- DETAILED 3D-PRINTED BUILD: A silver rocket body, dark heat-shield accents and a layered round base present recognizable launch-vehicle structure without requiring assembly.
- A GIFT FOR SPACE-MINDED PEOPLE: An engaging choice for students, engineers and space enthusiasts; it is a decorative humidifier model and does not produce propulsion.
The vehicles represented in the plan
| Vehicle | Role | Details supplied by SpaceX | Flight 4 task shown in the graphic |
|---|---|---|---|
| Super Heavy | First stage | 72 meters tall, 9 meters in diameter and powered by 33 Raptor engines | Separate, jettison the hot-stage adapter, perform a boostback and attempt its return sequence |
| Starship | Upper stage | Six engines: three sea-level Raptors and three Raptor Vacuum engines | Coast across the Atlantic and southern Africa, reenter and target an Indian Ocean splashdown |
SpaceX describes Super Heavy as a stage designed to return to the launch site and be caught by the launch tower for rapid reuse. The Flight 4 illustration showed an attempted return profile, but it should not be read as proof that a tower catch was part of that particular flight’s demonstrated outcome.

How to interpret the graphic now
The image documented a plan announced before the targeted June 5, 2024 window. Its arrows, splashdown zones and recovery steps represented intended trajectories and objectives, not a guarantee of what would happen in flight. Later Starship flight results must be assessed separately from this historical visualization.
