These are budget benchmarks, not guaranteed quotes or a market-wide survey. Your actual price depends on the work included, the store’s complexity, and how the agency charges.
Shopify agency cost ranges at a glance
| Project type | Published range | Source and context |
|---|---|---|
| Basic agency build | $5,000–$10,000 | Shopify’s 2026 guide, citing Storetasker’s 2025 developer rate guide. Shopify notes that price varies with complexity. Source |
| Mid-tier custom build | $15,000–$35,000 | Shopify’s 2026 guide, citing Storetasker’s 2025 developer rate guide. Source |
| Enterprise or Shopify Plus work | More than $50,000 | Shopify’s 2026 guide, citing Storetasker’s 2025 developer rate guide. This is a benchmark, not a fixed threshold for every project. Source |
| Full store redesign | $10,000–$75,000 | ShopExperts’ 2026 pricing guide; its range covers its stated redesign service. Source |
| Conversion-focused redesign with research | $15,000–$100,000+ | ShopExperts’ 2026 pricing guide; research is part of the described scope. Source |
The redesign ranges should not be averaged with the build benchmarks: they describe different scopes from different publishers. A design-only refresh, a redesigned and implemented storefront, and a conversion project that includes research are not interchangeable deliverables.

Why quotes for similar-looking stores can differ
A storefront’s visible pages are only part of the work. Agencies may also be asked to migrate an existing store, connect systems, build custom functionality, or support international and business-to-business selling. The specialist pricing guide identifies service type, team seniority, engagement model, scope complexity, store complexity, and geography as factors that influence price.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute2Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems3Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches- Scope: Theme customization, design-only work, a complete design-and-development build, migration, and ongoing optimization are different assignments.
- Technical requirements: Custom code, integrations, multiregion requirements, B2B features, and headless storefronts can add complexity.
- Team and location: The agency’s staffing seniority and geography are among the pricing dimensions identified by ShopExperts.
Shopify also reports a Databox survey of more than 40 agencies in which most clients paid less than $30,000 per year. Shopify describes the sample as narrow and the result as directional, not a concrete market rate. It is an annual survey finding, so it should not be treated as the price of a one-time store build. How agency billing models affect the total
The pricing guide describes hourly, fixed-price, monthly-retainer, fractional, and performance-based arrangements. Shopify likewise discusses project fees for bounded builds and migrations, retainers for ongoing marketing, and performance pricing tied to outcomes. Choose by the shape of the work, not by the billing label alone.
| Model | Often fits | What to clarify |
|---|---|---|
| Hourly | Small, bounded tasks or troubleshooting where the effort is uncertain | Expected hours, rate, approval before additional work, and any spending cap |
| Fixed price | A project with defined deliverables and acceptance criteria | Included pages and features, exclusions, change-request rates, and payment milestones |
| Monthly retainer | Continuing work such as ongoing marketing or optimization | Hours or services included, response times, rollover rules, and cancellation terms |
| Fractional or performance-based | Specialist involvement or compensation tied to agreed outcomes | Role and availability, how results are measured, attribution, and payment conditions |
A low hourly rate or monthly fee can still mean a larger commitment if the engagement lasts longer or excludes important work. Compare the total expected spend and what is actually delivered.

How to compare Shopify agency proposals
Shopify recommends getting itemized quotes from at least two or three agencies. Ask each agency to price the same brief where possible, then compare what each proposal includes—not just its headline total.
Quick wins for a faster PC:
Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFree Scan →Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →- Define the deliverable. State whether you need design only, design and development, a migration, custom features, or continued optimization.
- List dependencies and complexity. Identify integrations, B2B or international requirements, custom code, and any headless work.
- Request an itemized proposal. Ask for deliverables, exclusions, assumptions, payment milestones, and the process and cost for changes.
- Check launch and handover. Confirm whether QA, launch support, training, maintenance, and transfer of store assets and data are included.
- Evaluate the team and evidence. Ask who will do the work, whether they have experience with businesses at a comparable revenue scale, and for relevant before-and-after examples. Agree on how success will be measured and reported.
- Clarify exit terms. Ask how offboarding works and what happens to your store’s assets and data.
For the Shopify Partner Directory, filter providers by service type, price range, location, industry, language, and Partner tier. Use the filters to build a shortlist, then judge each candidate against your requirements and its actual proposal; a listing or tier by itself does not establish project fit. Set a defensible budget before choosing an agency
Start with the closest published range for the scope you need, then adjust your working budget for the specific requirements and deliverables in your brief. Treat published figures as orientation rather than a quote: Shopify’s build benchmarks cite Storetasker’s 2025 rate guide, while ShopExperts publishes separate, broader redesign ranges. The proposal—not the category label—will determine what your project costs.
As Shopify puts it in its agency-selection guidance, “The best ecommerce agency for you depends on what you need help with, what resources you have in-house, and what your goals are.” Read Shopify’s agency guidance
