What the sale-and-coupon FAQ does—and does not—establish

REI Outlet and Re/Supply are different categories
REI’s used-gear guidance describes Outlet merchandise as brand-new closeouts and previous-year models. Re/Supply is used gear. Treating an Outlet purchase as a used Re/Supply purchase can lead you to apply the wrong deadline or final-sale rule.

Outlet items are described as new closeout or previous-year products. REI also excludes ordinary wear and tear, misuse and accidental damage from its Satisfaction Guarantee for used gear. A return request based on a change of mind is different from a claim about a defect, so describe the actual problem accurately when you contact REI.

How membership and the purchase date affect a sale return
For an item that is otherwise eligible, membership changes the general time limit: members have one year for most items, while nonmembers have 90 days. Count from the purchase date shown in your order or transaction records. Do not use the one-year period for outdoor electronics; that category remains limited to 90 days for both groups.

Mail-in return
