Terrance Ferguson enters the 2026 season as a second-year Los Angeles Rams tight end with a growing, versatile role—but the team’s published depth chart does not assign him a clear TE1 or TE2 spot. The Rams list him alongside Colby Parkinson on one tight end line, while Davis Allen and Tyler Higbee share another. Ferguson’s 2025 production and expanding use point to a player the offense can deploy in several ways, not a guaranteed weekly snap or target total.
Where Ferguson sits on the Rams’ 2026 depth chart
The Rams’ current team page labels its depth chart unofficial. It lists Davis Allen and Tyler Higbee together on one tight end row, Colby Parkinson and Terrance Ferguson together on another, and Max Klare on a separate row. That layout is the club’s published listing; it does not establish a strict starter order or predict playing time. See the Rams’ unofficial depth chart.

The initial 53-man roster announcement, published August 30, 2026, included five tight ends:
- Tyler Higbee
- Colby Parkinson
- Davis Allen
- Terrance Ferguson
- Max Klare
Five tight ends make for a crowded room, but roster membership and a depth-chart row are not measures of a player’s weekly snaps or targets. The Rams’ initial 2026 roster announcement is a dated snapshot; the team’s chart can change as the season and availability change.

What Ferguson showed as a rookie
In 2025, Ferguson recorded 11 receptions for 231 yards and three touchdowns, according to the Rams’ player profile and feature. The profile lists him in 14 regular-season games with three starts. The team also says he had six receptions of at least 25 yards, the most by a Rams rookie tight end in the previous 35 years; that historical comparison is the Rams’ own, rather than an independently established league-wide statistic. The Rams’ player profile and 2026 feature on Ferguson provide the figures.
His involvement increased during the latter part of the season. The Rams report that Ferguson played at least 30% of the offensive snaps in every game from Weeks 6 through 17 except one. That is evidence of a meaningful role as the year progressed, not a guarantee that he will maintain the same share in 2026.

Why the Rams value his versatility
Head coach Sean McVay said Ferguson “plays every single skill position except for halfback for us.” Ferguson has also said he has been asked to work across positions and wants to contribute in the run game as well as as a receiver, whether aligned outside or in-line. His own stated aim was: “I just want to be involved in all aspects of the game.” Those descriptions explain the breadth of his assignments; they do not promise a particular workload. The comments appear in the Rams’ September 6, 2026 feature.

Rams quarterback Matthew Stafford described the adjustment this way: “You’re an extension of the offensive line in both the pass protection and the run game, but then you’ve got to go out there and run routes and win versus certain coverages and leverages and all that stuff too so it’s a big adjustment.”

How Ferguson fits the Rams’ multi-tight-end formations
A November 7, 2025 Rams feature said the team moved into three-tight-end 13 personnel formations as the tight end group became healthier, and identified Ferguson’s growth as another factor that helped unlock that usage. The account also described the wide receivers as focal points and noted earlier tight end injuries, so the shift was not presented as Ferguson’s achievement alone. The feature supports viewing his flexibility as useful within a deep room, including as a potential matchup option, but it does not establish his future target share. Read the Rams’ account of the 13-personnel usage.

The Rams signed Ferguson, their second-round pick, on July 19, 2025. At the time, McVay said: “He’s a guy we expect to contribute and to be able to do some good things, but that’s going to be earned.” His rookie-year involvement offers evidence of that development, but draft position by itself does not determine his place in the 2026 rotation. The Rams’ signing announcement includes McVay’s comment.
