There is no source-backed, all-purpose PC build for playing PS5 games through current PC projects. As of October 13, 2026, AnyPS5 publishes preliminary requirements for porting PS5 executables to Windows and Linux, while ShadPS5 describes an experimental emulator that is not yet ready for normal game play. A single 60-fps result in a simple 2D title cannot establish what hardware demanding PS5 games require.
The sensible buying order is therefore: identify the exact project, check the exact game’s status, verify that your PC meets that project’s entry requirements, and only then price a complete upgrade. Treat every listed specification as a compatibility threshold or provisional estimate, not as a performance guarantee.

Why a universal PS5-emulation build does not exist yet
The phrase “PS5 emulation” currently covers two very different efforts. AnyPS5 presents itself as a tool that automatically ports PS5 executables to Windows and Linux. It relinks a game’s executable and supplies replacement system libraries; it is not recreating an entire virtual PS5 console. Its hardware notes and test results apply to that porting workflow.
ShadPS5 is a separate experimental project intended to emulate a PS5 on Windows, Linux and macOS. Its own FAQ says it is not yet ready to play games: some software may boot or render a frame or two, but the core emulation layer is still being built. That makes its hardware list a provisional development target, not a validated gaming configuration.

Do not substitute shadPS4 information for either project. The official shadPS4 quick-start material concerns a PlayStation 4 emulator, so its minimums are not PS5 requirements.
AnyPS5 hardware guidance, interpreted correctly
CPU: 64-bit x86 is the baseline
AnyPS5 calls for a 64-bit x86 processor from AMD or Intel. Its documentation describes AMD Ryzen as the closest architectural match to the PS5 processor and notes that Intel systems require an additional conversion flag. This is a compatibility description, not a tested ranking of particular Ryzen, Core or Xeon models.
That distinction matters when shopping. A newer or more expensive processor may provide more headroom, but the available information does not identify a “recommended” CPU tier for all games. Before replacing a processor, establish that the exact title is supported by AnyPS5 and that the porting workflow, rather than a full emulator, is what you intend to use.
GPU: Vulkan 1.1 is a requirement, not a frame-rate promise
AnyPS5 lists Vulkan 1.1 support. The same requirements material documents one example: Dreaming Sarah reportedly reached 60 fps on a GeForce GTX 1050 Ti paired with an Intel Core i5-7500. That is evidence for that particular simple 2D game, on that reported test setup only.
It does not show that a GTX 1050 Ti will run other PS5 games, nor that buying a much faster graphics card will overcome missing emulator features or an unsupported executable. Use Vulkan support as a gate when checking a current card; do not turn the Dreaming Sarah result into a universal GPU recommendation.
Memory: plan for at least 16 GB, and understand the reservation warning
AnyPS5 advises 16 GB of RAM or more. Its Windows warning says a title may reserve up to 13,824 MiB (13.5 GiB) of direct memory, with the page file contributing to the system commit limit. This describes a possible workload reservation, not guaranteed performance and not proof that every game uses that amount.

The mature AM4 platform with DDR4 memory offers excellent value and proven stability.
A machine with less than 16 GB can therefore fail the project’s stated planning target even if its processor and graphics card appear adequate. If your system already has 16 GB, check whether other applications leave enough available memory for the game and porting process; adding capacity is a practical stability decision, not a promise of higher frame rates.
Storage: allow room for the dump and a growing shader cache
The workflow needs space for the game dump and for shader-cache data that grows during first play. The published requirements do not establish a minimum disk capacity or specify a required SSD type. Leave free space for both the game files and cache, but do not buy a particular drive size on the assumption that a stated capacity exists.
Operating system and files are prerequisites
AnyPS5’s cited workflow targets Windows or Linux and requires a decrypted game executable together with its associated modules and resources. A faster PC cannot make an unavailable, encrypted, incomplete or incompatible dump work. Confirm that you legally possess the required game data and that the exact build is supported before treating hardware as the problem.
Controller support is optional convenience hardware
AnyPS5 documents SDL-mapped controller support. A compatible PC controller can make testing more practical, but it is not a performance requirement. Do not divert a graphics or memory budget to a controller in the belief that it improves emulation speed.
What ShadPS5’s provisional list tells you
ShadPS5’s FAQ lists an AVX2-capable CPU, a Vulkan graphics processor (giving GTX 1060 and Radeon RX 560 as examples), and 16 GB of RAM. The project explicitly says these figures may change. They should be read as a rough development baseline for an emulator that is not yet ready for normal game play.

A buying process that avoids an expensive mismatch
- Name the project. Decide whether you are evaluating AnyPS5’s executable-porting workflow or ShadPS5’s experimental full emulation. Do not combine their requirements into one fictional specification.
- Name the game and version. Compatibility is title-specific. Record the exact game build and look for a current project entry or test report before comparing parts.
- Classify the evidence. Separate a game that merely boots, one that renders a scene, and one that sustains playable performance. The Dreaming Sarah result is in the last category only for that reported setup and game.
- Check the entry requirements. For AnyPS5, verify 64-bit x86 CPU support, Vulkan 1.1, at least 16 GB planned memory, a supported operating system and the required decrypted files. For ShadPS5, treat AVX2, Vulkan and 16 GB as provisional project guidance.
- Audit the complete upgrade. Include memory, graphics card, storage space for the dump and shader cache, and any other parts needed to make the system usable. A graphics-card quote alone is not the cost of a working upgrade.
- Set a stop condition. If the game has no credible playable result, do not keep escalating to more expensive hardware. Wait for software progress or use a supported way to play that specific title instead.
How to evaluate each component before spending
When a CPU upgrade makes sense
Upgrade only after confirming that the chosen project can use your game. For AnyPS5, the documented requirement is a 64-bit x86 processor, with Ryzen described as the closest match and an Intel conversion flag noted. There is no evidence here that a particular current CPU model guarantees performance across PS5 titles, so raw core counts or advertised boost clocks are insufficient grounds for a purchase.
When a GPU upgrade makes sense
First verify Vulkan 1.1 support for AnyPS5 or Vulkan support for ShadPS5’s provisional target. Then ask whether the project has demonstrated your game running. The GTX 1050 Ti example proves only that one simple 2D title reached a reported 60 fps with an i5-7500. It does not establish a minimum for visually demanding games, a safe setting for higher resolutions, or a benefit from any specific high-end card.
When to add RAM
If your system has less than 16 GB, reaching AnyPS5’s stated planning level is the clearest hardware change supported by the available guidance. Remember that the 13,824 MiB reservation warning concerns Windows commit capacity and may involve the page file; it is not a frame-rate target. Keep sufficient free memory for the operating system and other programs rather than assuming all installed RAM is available to the game.
How to plan storage
Reserve capacity for the decrypted game dump, associated modules and resources, and a shader cache that can grow during first play. Since no minimum capacity or mandatory SSD class is published, choose storage based on the size of your own library and available free space. A drive upgrade cannot fix an incompatible dump or missing emulator support.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. Can your current PC run a PS5 game?
There is no honest yes-or-no answer without three pieces of information: the project, the exact game and the evidence level for that combination. A PC can satisfy every listed threshold and still fail because the executable is unsupported or because the emulator lacks the required system behavior.
- For AnyPS5: confirm a 64-bit AMD or Intel x86 CPU, Vulkan 1.1 graphics support, 16 GB or more planned RAM, Windows or Linux compatibility, and complete decrypted game files.
- For ShadPS5: check for AVX2, a Vulkan-capable GPU and 16 GB RAM, while treating all three as changeable project guidance rather than a playable-game specification.
- For either project: verify the game’s current status and distinguish a boot or rendered frame from sustained play.
If any prerequisite is missing, fix that prerequisite first. If all are present but the game has no playable report, hardware is not yet the limiting factor you can solve with a purchase.

Common mistakes that lead to wasted money
Turning one light game into a system recommendation
A 60-fps report for Dreaming Sarah on a GTX 1050 Ti and i5-7500 is a useful data point, not a cross-game benchmark. Treating it as a PS5-wide minimum or recommendation overstates the evidence.
The Tool Desk
Outbyte PC Repair FREERepair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →Outbyte Driver Updater FREEFix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →Assuming “emulator” and “porting tool” mean the same thing
AnyPS5’s relinking approach and ShadPS5’s console emulation have different technical bottlenecks. Requirements from one cannot be used to certify the other.
Buying the GPU first
Graphics horsepower cannot supply a missing decrypted executable, replacement library, emulator feature or compatible operating-system workflow. Confirm software support before selecting parts.
Ignoring memory commitment and free storage
Windows may need commit capacity for a title that reserves up to 13,824 MiB, while shader data grows during first play. A system that technically has the right components can still run out of practical resources.
Using PS4 figures as PS5 guidance
shadPS4’s published minimums belong to a PS4 emulator. Reusing them for PS5 purchasing produces a false sense of certainty.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems2Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches3Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsWhen waiting is the rational choice
Waiting is sensible when your target game has no current playable result, when the project labels its requirements provisional, or when the only performance number comes from a simple title unlike the one you want to play. The available material contains no independent benchmark suite, no cross-game performance data and no validated high-end build. Those gaps cannot be filled by buying components with higher model numbers.
Recheck the official AnyPS5 and ShadPS5 project pages, the exact game’s compatibility record and the test configuration immediately before spending. Requirements and playable-game claims can change quickly as these projects develop.
Bottom line
Buy hardware for a documented project-and-game combination, not for the label “PS5 emulation.” For AnyPS5, use 64-bit x86, Vulkan 1.1 and 16 GB or more as preliminary entry guidance, while recognizing that the GTX 1050 Ti/i5-7500 result applies only to Dreaming Sarah. For ShadPS5, AVX2, Vulkan and 16 GB are provisional figures for an emulator that is not yet ready for ordinary play. Until compatibility and sustained performance are demonstrated for your specific game, keeping your current PC or waiting is safer than purchasing an expensive, unsupported build.
