There is no single “45-inch ultrawide OLED” PC requirement. You must first identify the monitor’s resolution, refresh rate, game, graphics settings and target frame rate. A 45-inch model may be 3440 × 1440 at up to 240Hz, 5120 × 2160 at up to 165Hz, or a dual-mode display that switches to Full HD at up to 330Hz. The graphics card does most of the work, but the monitor’s published specifications do not establish a minimum GPU, CPU, memory capacity or power-supply wattage. Choose hardware from a benchmark at your exact workload rather than from the screen size alone.
Start with the exact monitor mode
Screen size describes the diagonal, not the number of pixels your PC must render. Before buying hardware, record the monitor model, the resolution you intend to use, its refresh rate at that resolution, and whether features such as ray tracing, upscaling or frame generation will be enabled.

NVIDIA’s G-SYNC monitor specification list illustrates why the model number matters. It includes one 45-inch profile, the LG 45GX900A, at 3440 × 1440 with a 48–240Hz range, and another, the LG 45GX950A, at 5120 × 2160 with a 48–165Hz range. Those are very different rendering workloads even though both displays are 45 inches. You can verify the entries on NVIDIA’s monitor specifications page.

The graphics card is the primary performance decision
Rendering a game at 5120 × 2160 requires substantially more pixel work than rendering the same game at 3440 × 1440. Raising the refresh target increases the number of frames the GPU must produce every second. Ray-traced lighting, high-quality shadows, volumetric effects, dense crowds and other demanding settings can increase the load again.
That does not translate into a defensible universal answer such as “buy a card with X gigabytes” or “you need a particular model.” No named, independent GPU benchmark, minimum build specification or game-specific frame-rate result was established for these displays. The monitor’s maximum refresh rate is an input capability; it is not a promise that a PC can render a particular game at that rate.
Use this workload definition before choosing a GPU
- Game: identify the exact title and, when relevant, its version or graphics API.
- Resolution: choose 3440 × 1440, 5120 × 2160 or the monitor’s alternate mode.
- Quality preset: record the intended preset and any settings you will raise manually.
- Ray tracing: treat it as a separate target because it can change GPU requirements dramatically.
- Upscaling and frame generation: note whether they are enabled, their quality mode, and whether your objective is native-image quality or a higher displayed frame rate.
- Frame-rate goal: set a practical target, such as a stable cap, rather than assuming the panel’s maximum is necessary for every game.
How to turn that definition into a purchase
- Find independent benchmarks for the exact game, resolution and quality settings. A result at 2560 × 1440 is not a 5120 × 2160 result, and a result with ray tracing disabled does not establish ray-traced performance.
- Check whether the benchmark reports average and low-percentile frame rates. A high average with severe dips may feel worse than a lower, steadier result.
- Compare results with and without upscaling or frame generation if those features matter to you. Keep the modes labelled; do not treat generated frames as identical to fully rendered frames when evaluating responsiveness.
- Leave headroom for the games you expect to play next. A card that just reaches a target today may require reduced settings as newer, heavier games arrive.
- Confirm that the chosen card has an output that supports the monitor’s intended signal, then verify the cable and monitor input settings.
A discrete gaming GPU is the relevant hardware category for this workload, but a specific minimum or preferred card requires current, game-specific testing. If a retailer or forum gives a single model without stating the game, settings, resolution and frame-rate target, it has not answered your actual question.
Match the connection to the display mode
Performance and signal compatibility are separate checks. LG lists DisplayPort 2.1 on the 45GX950A-B product page. LG’s GX9 launch release also lists DisplayPort 2.1, HDMI 2.1 and USB-C for the model. The release is available as a PDF from LG.

Check the GPU outputs
Inspect the graphics card’s specifications for the connector and signal mode you plan to use. A port being physically compatible does not guarantee that it can carry every combination of resolution, refresh rate, colour format and HDR setting. Prefer the connection documented for the monitor’s highest mode, and use a cable rated for that interface rather than an unmarked cable kept from an older display.
Confirm the setting in the operating system and monitor menu
After connecting the display, open your operating system’s advanced display settings and select the intended resolution and refresh rate. Then check the monitor’s on-screen information panel to confirm that it is receiving that signal. If the desired rate is absent, test another certified cable, another GPU output and the monitor’s input setting before assuming the GPU is too slow. A missing refresh option can be a link or configuration problem rather than a rendering problem.
CPU requirements depend on the frame-rate target
The GPU usually dominates the workload at a very high resolution, but the CPU still prepares game logic, simulation, draw calls, asset streaming and input. A game designed around large crowds, complex simulation or extremely high frame rates can become CPU-limited even when the GPU is not fully loaded.
There is no official CPU minimum published for the 45GX950A-B or for 45-inch OLED monitors as a class. Select the processor from the game’s own requirements and independent tests of that game, then consider whether you want to drive the display’s highest refresh mode or simply maintain a lower, stable cap. A CPU upgrade will not fix a GPU-limited 5120 × 2160 workload, while a faster GPU will not remove a processor bottleneck in a simulation-heavy title.

Diagnose the limiting component
- If GPU utilisation remains near its limit while CPU utilisation has spare capacity, lowering visual settings or resolution, enabling an appropriate upscaler, or using a faster GPU addresses the immediate limit.
- If one or more CPU cores are saturated and the GPU is waiting, reduce CPU-heavy settings such as simulation or crowd density, cap the frame rate, or use a faster processor.
- If frame-time spikes occur while new areas load, investigate storage, memory pressure and background applications instead of assuming the monitor needs a different GPU.
Memory, storage and the rest of the platform
The display specifications do not define a minimum system-memory capacity, storage type, motherboard chipset or operating-system version. Use the game developer’s requirements as the baseline and add capacity for your operating system, launchers, recording software, browsers and other programs you run simultaneously.
System memory
Insufficient RAM can cause asset streaming pauses and background swapping, which look like erratic frame times rather than a simple low average. Check actual memory use while the game is running at the intended resolution. If usage is close to the installed capacity, adding memory can improve consistency; it will not increase the monitor’s maximum refresh rate or replace a faster GPU.
Storage
Modern games benefit from fast storage for installation and asset loading, but storage speed does not turn a GPU-limited render into a high-frame-rate one. Keep adequate free space and use the game’s recommended storage configuration. Investigate drive health and background downloads when stutter appears during loading rather than during steady gameplay.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems2Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches3Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsMotherboard and expansion
Confirm that the system has a suitable full-length graphics-card slot, enough physical clearance, compatible power connectors and the firmware support required by your selected components. These are build-compatibility checks, not specifications imposed by the 45-inch panel.

Power supply and cooling: size for the whole PC
Neither the monitor manufacturer nor the cited display listings supplies a minimum PC power-supply wattage. Determine the supply from the exact GPU and CPU specifications, the number of drives and fans, and the manufacturer’s recommended system power. Leave operating headroom instead of sizing to a theoretical idle draw, and verify that the supply includes the connectors required by the graphics card.
High sustained GPU loads produce heat. Use a case with unobstructed intake and exhaust, a cooler appropriate for the selected CPU, and a fan layout that keeps temperatures stable during long sessions. Thermal throttling can reduce frame rate even when the nominal hardware is powerful enough. Keep the monitor’s own power cable and the PC’s power-delivery requirements separate: the display does not supply rendering power to the computer.

5K2K at up to 165Hz
5120 × 2160 provides the sharper, wider desktop and game image described by LG as approximately 11 million pixels. It is the mode to evaluate when image detail and workspace are priorities. Benchmark the GPU at this exact resolution; results from a conventional 4K monitor or a 3440 × 1440 ultrawide do not establish equivalent performance.

Full HD at up to 330Hz
The 45GX950A-B’s dual mode lowers the rendered resolution and raises the published ceiling to 330Hz. This can suit competitive games where latency and very high frame rates matter more than 5K2K sharpness. It is a different target, not a way to obtain 330Hz at 5120 × 2160. Evaluate the game, scaling behaviour and image quality at the selected mode before committing to it.

3440 × 1440 at up to 240Hz
A 3440 × 1440 45-inch display has fewer pixels than a 5120 × 2160 model, but its 240Hz target can still be demanding in fast games. Use benchmarks at 3440 × 1440 and the intended settings; do not infer performance from the monitor’s diagonal or from a different 45-inch model.
A practical buying and setup checklist
- Write down the complete target: monitor model, resolution, refresh rate, game, quality preset, ray tracing choice, upscaling or frame generation mode, and desired frame rate.
- Locate matching benchmarks: reject results that change the resolution or settings without clearly labelling the change.
- Select the GPU: choose the card that meets the target with sensible headroom, based on those tests rather than on the 45-inch measurement.
- Check the CPU: use game-specific CPU tests if you want very high frame rates or play simulation-heavy titles.
- Validate the platform: confirm memory capacity, storage space, motherboard slot, case clearance, cooling and required power connectors.
- Validate the signal path: match the GPU output, monitor input and certified cable to the intended resolution and refresh rate.
- Configure and measure: select the refresh rate in the operating system, verify the monitor’s input readout, then monitor frame times and utilisation in the game.
- Set a stable cap: if the game cannot sustain the panel’s maximum refresh, cap it at a level the system holds consistently and tune settings from there.
Common mistakes and their fixes
“45 inches means the same hardware everywhere”
It does not. Confirm the model and resolution first; the NVIDIA listing contains both 3440 × 1440 and 5120 × 2160 45-inch examples.
“A 165Hz monitor requires 165 frames per second in every game”
The display can accept up to that refresh rate in its specified mode, but your game may be limited by its engine, CPU, GPU or settings. Choose a frame-rate target that matches the experience you want.
“A new cable will create more GPU performance”
A suitable cable can remove a signal-limit problem, but it cannot raise rendered frame rate. Separate link troubleshooting from performance testing.
“A single GPU recommendation is valid for every title”
Performance changes with resolution, quality, ray tracing, upscaling, frame generation and game engine. Require a benchmark that matches your workload before treating a recommendation as meaningful.
“The monitor specification is a PC minimum specification”
Display specifications describe the signal the monitor accepts. They do not establish the computer’s CPU, RAM, storage or power-supply requirements, and the cited manufacturer material does not publish those minimums.
Bottom line
To run a 45-inch ultrawide OLED gaming monitor well, build around the exact mode you will use. A 5120 × 2160 display at up to 165Hz, a 3440 × 1440 display at up to 240Hz and a Full HD mode at up to 330Hz demand different choices. Start with game-specific GPU benchmarks, then check CPU limits, memory, storage, cooling, power delivery and the DisplayPort 2.1, HDMI 2.1 or USB-C signal path documented for the monitor. Because no independent benchmark or minimum PC specification accompanies these display listings, naming one universally required graphics card would be speculation.
