What PC Hardware Do You Need for a 1000Hz Gaming Monitor?

You do not need a PC that renders 1,000 frames per second just to select a 1,000Hz monitor mode. You do need hardware that meets the exact monitor’s signal requirements. For LG’s UltraGear 25G590B-B, that means Windows 11, DisplayPort 2.1, and one of the graphics-card families LG lists for its maximum refresh mode. Reaching very high frame rates in a particular game is a separate, game-dependent challenge.

Hardware required for LG’s 25G590B-B 1000Hz mode

Monitor requirements vary by model. LG specifies the following for the UltraGear 25G590B-B’s maximum refresh mode:

As an Amazon Associate I earn from qualifying purchases.

  • Operating system: Windows 11.
  • Graphics card: NVIDIA RTX 50 series, or AMD Radeon RX 9070, RX 9060, or RX 7900 series, or newer.
  • Connection: DisplayPort 2.1. Check that the graphics card output, monitor input, and cable support the required connection.
  • Resolution and test scope: LG Canada says its internal testing verified 1000Hz signal input at Full HD (1920 × 1080) with the listed NVIDIA and AMD graphics-card families. This is LG’s signal-input verification, not an independent game benchmark.

These are LG’s requirements for this display, not a universal minimum for every monitor advertised as 1000Hz. Check the target model’s manual and support information before buying or replacing hardware. LG’s U.S. announcement lists the operating system, graphics-card families, connection, and performance caveats; LG Canada’s product information describes its Full HD signal test.

Refresh rate is not the same as game FPS

Refresh rate describes how often a display updates its image; Microsoft’s example is that a 60Hz display updates 60 times per second. FPS is the number of frames a computer renders in a game. A 1000Hz setting does not make a game render 1000 unique frames per second. LG explicitly says that support for a 1000Hz refresh rate does not imply or guarantee 1000 FPS in any particular game.

  • What Makes Native 1000Hz on Full HD Different? - Unlike HD 1000Hz displays that trade clarity for speed, the 25G590B delivers native 1000Hz performance with Full HD—the esports standard. Get the speed competitive players demand with the visual precision needed to stay locked in on the action.
  • The Advantage of 1000Hz Gaming - Native 1000Hz delivers up to 1000 visual updates per second, helping improve target tracking and motion clarity during high-speed competitive play. From flick shots to precision micro-adjustments, every movement feels more responsive and controlled.
  • Up to 1100Hz Overclocked Speed - Unlock up to 1100Hz overclock (O/C) for even smoother motion, faster responsiveness, and enhanced target tracking. Designed to help competitive players stay focused and react faster during the most demanding esports moments.
  • Less Blur. More Control with MBR Pro. - MBR Pro helps reduce motion blur during fast-paced gameplay, making moving objects appear sharper and easier to track. Stay focused on targets with improved motion clarity designed for competitive esports performance.

Actual frame rate depends on the game and the whole system. LG identifies CPU, GPU, memory, game-specific frame-rate limits, operating-system version, and graphics-driver version as factors. The available manufacturer information does not establish a universal CPU model or RAM capacity for sustaining 1000 FPS across games, so a hardware upgrade should be based on benchmarks for the specific game and settings you care about—not the monitor’s refresh-rate number alone.

How to select and verify the refresh rate in Windows 11

  1. Open Settings > System > Display > Advanced display.
  2. If more than one display is connected, choose the 1000Hz monitor.
  3. Select a listed refresh rate and check the displayed resolution and refresh rate. Available options depend on the display and connection.
  4. If a rate has an asterisk, Microsoft says it does not support the current resolution; selecting it changes the display resolution to achieve that rate. Confirm that the desired resolution remains active after making a selection.

These steps and the asterisk warning are documented by Microsoft Support. For the 25G590B-B, also confirm that the DisplayPort 2.1 path and graphics card meet LG’s stated requirements.

Account for variable refresh and overclock trade-offs

A monitor’s maximum fixed refresh rate and its variable-refresh features are not necessarily available in the same way in every mode. AMD explains that FreeSync synchronizes a compatible display’s refresh with the graphics card’s frame rate, and that some display presets or custom settings can disable FreeSync. Check the monitor’s supported range and recommended settings if you intend to use variable refresh rate; AMD’s FreeSync guidance describes the feature and preset caveat.

On the 25G590B-B, LG says the 1100Hz overclocked mode does not support AMD FreeSync Premium and is certified only for NVIDIA G-SYNC compatibility at 1000Hz. LG also says its MBR Pro blur-reduction setting disables FreeSync Premium and G-SYNC compatibility. Those are model-specific trade-offs, so check the feature combination you plan to use rather than assuming all synchronization and blur-reduction options work at the maximum rate. LG’s product announcement provides these mode qualifications.
