Frame-rate consistency matters most in a Call of Duty PC game, followed by matching resolution and aspect ratio to your monitor, then tuning controls and image quality to your preferences. Activision’s September 29, 2026 announcement for Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 identifies all three areas: a developer target of 90 frames per second at recommended specifications, support for 1080p, 1440p, 4K and ultrawide displays, and more than 800 customization options. Those figures describe announced features, not independent test results. With the announced PC release still scheduled for October 23, 2026 as of October 13, the most useful way to evaluate them is to understand what each feature can—and cannot—tell you about your own system.
The three PC features that deserve priority
1. A stable frame rate
Frames per second (FPS) measure how many images your graphics card and processor produce each second. A higher and steadier rate generally makes aiming, camera movement and rapid target transitions feel more immediate. Consistency is more important than a headline peak: a system that briefly reaches a high number but repeatedly drops during fights can feel worse than one that holds a lower rate with fewer spikes.

Activision says Modern Warfare 4 is targeting 90 FPS at recommended specifications. That is a developer goal for a particular hardware tier and quality target, not a guarantee for every PC. It is also not an independent benchmark result. Your resolution, graphics settings, background applications, thermals and display refresh rate all affect the outcome.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems2Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches3Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors2. Display resolution and aspect ratio
Resolution determines the number of pixels the GPU must render. Moving from 1080p to 1440p or 4K increases the image workload, while an ultrawide format adds horizontal pixels compared with a standard 16:9 screen. The announcement explicitly lists 1080p, 1440p, 4K, standard displays and ultrawide displays, so players have a broad range of supported formats. It does not publish FPS figures for each resolution-and-aspect-ratio combination.

3. Control and graphics customization
Customization lets you balance clarity, responsiveness and comfort instead of accepting one preset. The Modern Warfare 4 announcement says there are 800+ options spanning graphics, gameplay, input devices, interface and more. That count indicates breadth; it does not mean every player needs to change hundreds of switches. The practical value is being able to adjust the handful of settings that matter to your eyes, hardware and control scheme.
What Modern Warfare 4 has officially announced
The following table separates the announced feature from the conclusion a player can reasonably draw before launch.
| Feature | Officially announced detail | What it means for a PC player | What remains unproven |
|---|---|---|---|
| Performance target | 90 FPS at recommended specifications | A reference goal for a defined system tier and visual target | Independent results, minimum FPS, frame-time consistency and performance on your particular hardware |
| Built-in benchmark | Reports average FPS, CPU, GPU, ping and input latency, with zone-by-zone results and suggested settings | A way to measure your own PC and identify whether the CPU, GPU or connection is the limiting factor | How closely the benchmark predicts every multiplayer map, mode or future update |
| Display support | 1080p, 1440p, 4K, standard and ultrawide displays | You can select a conventional or ultrawide monitor at one of the named resolutions | Exact ultrawide aspect ratios, field-of-view behavior in every mode, interface placement and FPS at each combination |
| Customization | 800+ options across graphics, gameplay, input devices, interface and more | Detailed control over image quality, controls and on-screen information | The final menu layout and the effect of every option until the game is available |
| Upscaling and anti-aliasing | NVIDIA DLSS 4.5, AMD FSR Redstone, Intel XeSS 3 and Filmic SMAA T2X are listed | Several announced ways to trade rendering workload against image quality | Which option looks or performs best on your GPU; no comparative testing was published |
Call of Duty Staff described the 800+ settings as a way to dial in a setup. That is marketing language from a pre-release announcement, so treat it as a description of scope rather than a measured quality claim.

Target, tier and result are different things
A target is what the developer aims to achieve under stated conditions. A system-tier target connects that aim to recommended specifications. An actual result is a measurement from your PC or an independent test system. The 90 FPS statement belongs to the first two categories. Until players can run the released build, it cannot answer whether your computer will hold 90 FPS in every situation.

- QHD Resolution (2560 x 1440) has 1.7 times the pixel density of Full HD for incredibly detailed pinsharp images
- HDR10 provides brighter highlights and nuanced shadow for added depth - making every scene feel more vivid and realistic
- The 180Hz refresh rate minimizes lag for gameplay with ultra-smooth action. Plus, the 1ms response time helps capture your moves in real-time, allowing you to react fast for gaming precision
- AMD FreeSync reduces choppiness, screen lag and image tearing, ensuring that your fast-paced, complex in-game action is stable with minimal stutter
- Ergonomic stand allows for tilt, pivot and height adjustments to maximize gaming comfort
Match FPS to the monitor
Your monitor can refresh only as often as its hardware allows. If the game produces substantially more frames than the display can show, extra rendering may consume power without improving visible motion; if it produces fewer, movement can appear less fluid. Set expectations around the refresh rate you own or plan to buy, then use the game’s benchmark to find settings that deliver a stable result rather than chasing a maximum counter number.
Use the in-game benchmark as a diagnostic
When Modern Warfare 4 is released, run its built-in test before making broad changes. Activision says the tool reports average FPS, CPU and GPU information, ping, input latency, zone-by-zone results and suggested settings.
- Run the benchmark at the resolution and aspect ratio you intend to play.
- Record the average FPS and note whether the report points to CPU, GPU, ping or input latency.
- Apply the suggested settings as a baseline rather than an immutable rule.
- Change one graphics option at a time and run the test again so you can identify the cost of each change.
- Verify the result in a real match or practice session, because a benchmark is a repeatable sample, not a guarantee for every map, mode or patch.
This process avoids treating the published 90 FPS figure as a promise and gives you evidence from your own hardware.

Supported category, not a complete compatibility matrix
The official PC announcement explicitly includes ultrawide displays alongside 1080p, 1440p and 4K. That is meaningful: the game is being presented as able to render beyond a conventional 16:9 monitor. However, the announcement does not name every supported aspect ratio or explain whether menus, cutscenes and all competitive modes use the same horizontal field of view.

Do not infer a specific field-of-view value, a guaranteed wider competitive view or identical interface behavior from the single word “ultrawide.” Those details must be checked in the released settings and tested in the modes you play.
Choose resolution before judging performance
An ultrawide monitor can be 1080p-class, 1440p-class or 4K-class in vertical resolution, and the horizontal pixel count differs accordingly. Two ultrawide screens therefore can place very different demands on the GPU. Compare the game’s measured result at your exact native resolution, not a result from a standard monitor or a different ultrawide format.
Ultrawide setup checklist
- Confirm that the operating system is set to the monitor’s native resolution and refresh rate.
- Select the corresponding aspect ratio in the game rather than stretching a 16:9 image.
- Check the field-of-view control and test it in both gameplay and menus.
- Look for cropped, stretched or off-screen interface elements.
- Run the benchmark at native resolution, then repeat after changing any upscaling mode.
- If a competitive mode behaves differently, use that mode’s view as your final reference.
What “800+ customization options” means in practice
Graphics
Graphics controls determine how much work the GPU performs and how the scene is presented. The current announcement mentions new graphics settings but does not enumerate every control. Expect to evaluate options by visual impact versus performance cost, using the benchmark after each meaningful change. Keep the native output resolution when text and fine detail are priorities; consider an announced upscaling option when the GPU is the bottleneck.

Input devices
Input customization covers the way a mouse, keyboard, controller or other supported device is read. The announcement specifically lists sub-frame mouse polling, which is intended to provide more granular mouse input timing. Whether that feature benefits you depends on your mouse, operating-system settings and sensitivity preferences; it should be judged by feel and measured input-latency reporting, not by the label alone.

Gameplay and visibility
Gameplay settings can affect how information is presented and how actions are mapped. Enhanced FOV is one announced feature. A wider view can help some players monitor more of the scene, but it also changes the apparent size of distant targets and may alter how motion feels. Choose a value you can read comfortably, then keep it consistent while comparing sensitivity and performance.
Interface
Interface options control the information layered over the world: status indicators, prompts and other elements. An ultrawide display makes placement especially important because a setting designed around a central 16:9 area may not use the extra horizontal space as you expect. Check the complete HUD in a live match rather than judging a single menu screen.
Older controls documentation is useful only as an example
Activision’s Modern Warfare III PC controls guide illustrates the kinds of categories players may encounter, including mouse sensitivity, key mapping, aspect ratio, shadow quality and video-memory estimates. Those examples belong to an older title. They should help you understand the purpose of settings categories, not be treated as a confirmed list or requirement for Modern Warfare 4.

Upscaling choices: compare, do not assume
The announced feature list includes NVIDIA DLSS 4.5, AMD FSR Redstone, Intel XeSS 3 and Filmic SMAA T2X. These are different rendering or anti-aliasing paths, and their availability or behavior can depend on the GPU and selected mode. The announcement does not provide a controlled comparison, so no option can be declared universally best from the announcement alone.

- Quality Visuals: The KG251Q 24.5" monitor with 1920 x 1080 Full HD resolution in a 16:9 aspect ratio presents stunning, high-quality images with excellent detail. The zero-frame design does away with the thick frames found on conventional monitors freeing up precious screen space.
- AMD FreeSync Premium Technology: Say “goodbye” to stuttering and tearing. With AMD FreeSync Premium, the monitor’s frames are synced with the graphics card’s frames, which eliminates screen tearing and provides the smoothest gaming experience.
- 200Hz Refresh Rate: The 200Hz refresh rate speeds up the frames per second to deliver an ultra-smooth 2D motion scene. With a rapid refresh rate of 200Hz, Acer Monitors shorten the time it takes for frame rendering, lower input lag and provide gamers an excellent in-game experience.
- Responsive!!: Up to 0.5ms GTG (Gray to Gray) response time enhanced gamers’ in-game experience. No matter if the fast-moving action or any dramatic transitions will be rendered smoothly without the annoying effects of smearing or ghosting with KG251Q Gaming Monitor
- ZeroFrame Design: With a Nitro KG251Q monitor, you’ll want to see as much of the display as possible. Get more real estate with the near bezel-less design, allowing you to see more and do more. The ZeroFrame design lets you place multiple monitors next to each other for a seamless, almost uninterrupted view.
Use a simple evaluation order: first establish a native-resolution baseline, then test each option available on your system at the same output resolution. Compare average FPS, image stability on fine details, motion clarity and any input-latency change reported by the benchmark. Keep the option that meets your visual and responsiveness priorities, even if it is not the fastest on paper.
Why another Call of Duty’s specifications cannot predict this game
Activision’s November 3, 2025 PC announcement for Black Ops 7 described a recommended tier aimed at 60 FPS in most situations at high settings, plus separate competitive/high-refresh and ultra-4K tiers. Those figures demonstrate that Call of Duty performance goals and hardware tiers vary by title. They are not Modern Warfare 4 requirements and should not be substituted for its announced 90 FPS target.
| Use of a specification | Safe interpretation | Unsafe interpretation |
|---|---|---|
| Modern Warfare 4’s 90 FPS statement | Developer-announced target at recommended specifications | A guarantee that every recommended or faster PC will sustain 90 FPS everywhere |
| Black Ops 7’s 60 FPS recommendation | Evidence that a different Call of Duty title used a different target and tier structure | A hardware requirement or performance estimate for Modern Warfare 4 |
| Your benchmark result | A measurement of your configuration under the tested scenario | A promise that every future patch and map will perform identically |
A practical decision framework for a PC setup
If you already own a monitor
- Write down its native resolution, aspect ratio and refresh rate.
- Start the game at native resolution with a sensible preset.
- Run the built-in benchmark and save the report.
- Adjust the largest bottleneck first: GPU-related image settings when the GPU is limiting, or CPU-heavy settings and background processes when the processor is limiting.
- Retest in the actual mode you care about and keep a configuration that remains consistent during long sessions.
If you are choosing a monitor
Decide whether your priority is a conventional 16:9 screen or the additional horizontal workspace of ultrawide. Then choose 1080p, 1440p or 4K according to the level of detail you want and the performance your PC can sustain. The announcement establishes compatibility with all of those categories, but it does not establish a single ideal combination or require a monitor upgrade.
If competitive responsiveness is your priority
Prioritize a stable frame rate, low measured input latency and a field of view you can read quickly. Disable visual effects only when testing shows a meaningful benefit, because an option that removes detail can also make the scene harder to interpret. Use sub-frame mouse polling and Enhanced FOV as adjustable tools, not mandatory settings.
Troubleshooting an unsatisfying result
- Average FPS is below your goal: lower the most GPU-intensive image options or test an available upscaling mode at the same output resolution.
- FPS swings sharply: check zone-by-zone benchmark results, close unnecessary background workloads and look for a setting that causes intermittent spikes rather than changing everything at once.
- Input feels delayed despite adequate FPS: inspect the benchmark’s input-latency reading, verify the correct input device and compare polling or control settings.
- Ultrawide image looks stretched: confirm the native resolution and aspect-ratio selection instead of forcing a 16:9 mode.
- HUD elements are awkwardly placed: review interface and safe-area controls, then test in a live match; menu behavior alone may not reveal the issue.
- Performance changes after an update: rerun the benchmark and record the new result. A patch can alter rendering behavior, so an older configuration should not be assumed to remain optimal.
What to verify when Modern Warfare 4 launches
At launch, verify the final PC menu labels, the exact ultrawide aspect ratios accepted by your monitor, field-of-view behavior in each mode, and whether the benchmark’s suggested settings suit your priorities. Also check how the announced upscalers behave on your particular GPU and whether the interface remains readable at your chosen resolution. Those are hands-on questions that the pre-release announcement does not answer.
The most reliable setup is therefore individual rather than universal: use the 90 FPS announcement as a reference point, use the built-in benchmark to measure your PC, select a display format the game explicitly supports, and spend your customization effort on the settings that improve your own clarity and control.
