Turn on your monitor’s built-in pixel shifting, logo dimming, and compatible idle screen protection; leave automatic panel maintenance enabled and let it finish while the monitor is off. These measures target static image exposure without forcing the whole display to run dim all the time. There is no universal brightness percentage that prevents burn-in: use a comfortable level for your room, and check the manual and on-screen menu for your exact model.
Which settings should you enable?
OLED burn-in risk is most relevant when bright, fixed content stays in the same place for long periods. RTINGS identifies maximum brightness combined with unvarying content as a higher-risk pattern, but does not give a universal brightness threshold for monitors. RTINGS’ OLED monitor analysis also underscores that usage matters.

| Setting | Recommended choice | What it changes | Image-quality consideration |
|---|---|---|---|
| Pixel Shift / Screen Move | On, if available | Moves the displayed image slightly so static features do not remain on precisely the same pixels. | Movement level and behavior vary by model; check the monitor’s menu or manual. |
| Logo brightness / static-logo dimming | Enabled; start with the default or a moderate level | Dims detected logo regions rather than reducing brightness across the whole screen. | Stronger dimming may be noticeable around logos or persistent HUD elements. Samsung says High dims logos more than Low. |
| Screen saver / idle dimming | Enabled where compatible | Dims or protects the display when the image is idle or unchanged. | May dim the image during inactivity; some HDR modes on supported ASUS models disable the feature. |
| Brightness | Comfortable for the room and content; avoid leaving it at maximum without need | Sets overall display output. | Do not apply a blanket SDR brightness rule to HDR use. No reviewed source establishes one monitor-wide percentage or nits target. |
| Automatic panel maintenance | Enabled; allow its cycle to complete | Runs the manufacturer’s maintenance process to help manage image retention. | Timing and power requirements are model-specific; avoid interrupting the cycle. |
Targeted measures such as logo dimming and idle protection are generally less disruptive to normal viewing than lowering global brightness, based on how the features are described—not on a comparative lab test. Choose a stronger logo-dimming level only if its local effect looks acceptable to you.

Samsung OLED monitors
In the cited Samsung instructions, open Settings > All Settings > General & Privacy > Panel Care. Check that Pixel Shift is on, and enable Adjust Logo Brightness. Samsung says Pixel Shift is on by default on supported monitors; Low is the default logo-brightness adjustment, while High reduces logo brightness further. Samsung’s OLED monitor support guidance describes the options and their behavior.
#1 Best Overall
- Samsung’s 27” Odyssey OLED G6 Gaming Monitor is engineered for perfection with a QD-OLED Display featuring QHD resolution made to deliver high brightness and a wide range of colors for gameplay
- OLED Safeguard technology supports performance by actively helping to prevent burn-in with a thermal modulation system
- Glare Free Technology keeps screen clear of reflection from external light sources
- The Pantone Validated screen accurately reproduces 2100+ lifelike colors and 110+ skin tone shades
- HDR10 provides brighter highlights and nuanced shadows for added depth and more realistic scenes
Samsung says its automatic Screen Optimization starts after at least four cumulative screen hours, runs after the monitor is turned off, and takes about 10–15 minutes. Keep the monitor connected to power so the process can finish; disconnecting power interrupts it. Pixel Refresh appears only on some models. These timings and menu labels apply to Samsung’s documented products, not OLED monitors generally.
ASUS OLED monitors
For the ROG PG OLED monitors covered by ASUS’s instructions, use System Setup > Screen Protection to find Screen Saver, Screen Move, and Adjust Logo Brightness. Screen Move provides an image-movement level. ASUS says Screen Saver automatically lowers brightness when the displayed content does not change; the feature is unavailable in certain listed HDR modes. ASUS ROG’s Screen Protection guidance explains these controls.

ASUS says Pixel Cleaning activates automatically when the monitor turns off and stops if the monitor is powered on during the process. Let it run rather than interrupting it. ASUS cautions that menus and operation can differ by model and software version, so verify the exact instructions for your display.

For a mostly static desktop
Persistent taskbars, application toolbars, dashboards, and windows can leave bright features in fixed locations. Enable available pixel movement and logo dimming, and configure the computer or monitor to dim, blank, or sleep the display during idle periods. If your work keeps the same bright interface visible for many hours every day, settings can reduce exposure but cannot promise to eliminate OLED’s inherent burn-in risk.

For mixed gaming, video, and general use
Changing among games, video, and other content varies what appears on the screen. Keep the protections enabled, but there is no need to make the entire image unnecessarily dim solely as a blanket precaution. Set brightness to suit the room, and be mindful of long sessions with fixed, bright HUDs or logos.

What not to assume
- There is no reviewed evidence for a single brightness percentage or nits target that applies to every OLED monitor.
- Settings, names, availability, and interactions with HDR vary across models and firmware. A setting shown in one brand’s guide may not exist or behave the same way on another monitor.
- Automatic maintenance schedules are product-specific. For context only, RTINGS reports that an LG OLED TV’s automatic pixel refresh runs after four cumulative hours and that LG told RTINGS it takes 7–10 minutes. That is a television example, not a specification for OLED monitors. RTINGS’ LG OLED TV test notes describe that TV context.
- Do not repeatedly run a long manual refresh as routine prevention unless the instructions for your exact monitor recommend it. The manufacturer’s automatic process and timing take precedence.
