Naughty Dog’s announced next game is Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet, in development for PlayStation 5, with a full reveal planned for 2027. The studio has also confirmed two additional The Last of Us projects, but they remain in very early stages and have no announced titles, formats, platforms, or dates.
What Naughty Dog has officially announced
The September 28, 2026 update from studio head Neil Druckmann distinguishes between one announced game and two projects that are still at an early stage. They are not three equally detailed game announcements.

When will Naughty Dog show Intergalactic again?
Naughty Dog says it will remain quiet about Intergalactic for the rest of 2026, then fully reveal it in 2027 and give players a proper look at Jordan’s adventure. The 2027 timing is for a reveal, not a release date; the studio has not announced when the game will launch. Naughty Dog’s update
#1 Best Overall
- Enhanced visuals: Completely rebuilt from the ground up using Naughty Dog’s latest PS5 engine technology to improve every visual detail, The Last of Us experience has been faithfully enhanced with more realistic lighting and atmosphere, more intricate environments and creative reimaginings of familiar spaces.
- Fast loading: Initial loading times are near instant, and seamless after the first instance thanks to the PS5 console’s SSD – so you can pick up where you left off in the story and load specific encounters and chapters more quickly.
- Haptic feedback: DualSense wireless controller haptic feedback support for every weapon elevates combat encounters, and environments are brought to life through DualSense wireless controller haptic sensations of subtle falling rain, the crunch of stepping on snow and more.
- Adaptive triggers: All The Last of Us iconic weapons, including Joel’s revolver and Ellie’s bow, now deliver dynamic DualSense wireless controller trigger resistance and kickback on firing for deeper combat immersion.
- 3D Audio: Designed to make use of the PS5 console’s Tempest 3D AudioTech, Naughty Dog’s newly upgraded audio engine delivers richer soundscapes, bigger explosive moments and more visceral gameplay through compatible stereo headphones (analogue or USB) or TV speakers.
What is Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet about?
Naughty Dog announced Intergalactic on December 12, 2024, describing it as a new franchise and a character-driven sci-fi adventure. The story follows Jordan A. Mun, a dangerous bounty hunter stranded on Sempiria. The planet’s communications with the outside universe went dark hundreds of years ago, and people who traveled there in search of its past were never heard from again. Jordan hopes to become the first person in more than 600 years to leave its orbit. The original announcement
The 2024 announcement said development had been underway since 2020. Druckmann characterized its gameplay ambitions as the deepest in Naughty Dog’s history; that is the studio head’s description, not an independently measured comparison. In the 2026 update, he called it what is shaping up to be the studio’s most ambitious game yet, likewise a statement of the studio’s view rather than a comparative fact established outside it. Platform and named creative collaborators
The 2024 announcement says Intergalactic is in development for PlayStation 5. What this means for The Last of Us
The 2026 update answers the broad question of whether more The Last of Us stories are planned: Naughty Dog says it has two very early-stage projects that will expand the canon beyond Parts I and II. It does not identify whether either project is a game or another format, and provides no platform or timing. There is therefore no announced connection between these projects and a specific game release or schedule in the update. Naughty Dog’s update
