There is no official announcement of Uncharted 5 or a returning-game cast in the Naughty Dog and PlayStation sources reviewed as of October 7, 2026. That does not establish whether a project exists internally. It means any discussion of Nathan Drake’s return, the plot, or who might appear should be treated as speculation—not news about a confirmed game.
Uncharted 4 offers the clearest basis for imagining what a continuation might explore: Nathan has retired from global exploration, but the pull of adventure and his brother Sam draw him back into danger. The series has also shown it can follow another lead: The Lost Legacy centers on Chloe Frazer and Nadine Ross.

Has Uncharted 5 been announced?
No Uncharted 5 announcement or new-game cast confirmation appears in the official Naughty Dog and PlayStation sources reviewed for this article, checked October 7, 2026. Naughty Dog’s official news listing includes an Uncharted 4 anniversary item, but that is not an announcement of a fifth game. The status of any unannounced internal project is not established by those public pages.
That distinction matters because fan questions such as “why won’t they make another game?” or “do Uncharted fans actually want a new game?” express interest, not evidence of development. Until the studio or platform holder makes a specific announcement, story and casting ideas should be read as possibilities.

What Nathan’s return might mean for the story
Uncharted 4 sets up a tension a hypothetical sequel could revisit: Nathan has stepped away from fortune-hunting, yet adventure still appeals to him. Sam’s return becomes the catalyst that draws him back into danger. PlayStation’s official synopsis describes that starting point: “Three years after his last escapade, Nathan Drake has retired from global exploration, but he still feels the overwhelming lure of adventure.” PlayStation’s Uncharted 4 page presents that as the existing game’s premise, not a hint about a fifth entry.
If Nathan were involved again, one natural story question would be whether the impulse to explore can coexist with the quieter life and family responsibilities he chose. The official Uncharted 4 description emphasizes his past and what he is willing to sacrifice for loved ones, giving a continuation room to examine the cost of another adventure rather than simply repeat the old treasure hunt. That is an interpretation of the prior game’s setup, not a reported plot point.

Would Nathan have to be the lead?
No. The franchise has already demonstrated another protagonist model. PlayStation describes Uncharted: The Lost Legacy as a standalone adventure led by Chloe Frazer, alongside Nadine Ross. The official Uncharted hub also identifies familiar characters including Sam, Sully, Elena, Chloe, and Nadine.

- Nathan as the lead: a direct continuation centered on whether he returns to the field.
- Nathan in a supporting role: he could be part of an ensemble or help guide another adventurer.
- A different lead: a new standalone story could keep the series’ adventure style while leaving Nathan out of the spotlight, as The Lost Legacy did.
These are ways to think about a possible game, not competing versions of a known plan. A future reveal would clarify both the protagonist’s role and whether the story continues Uncharted 4 directly or branches into a standalone adventure.
What is known about the cast?
No returning-game cast has been confirmed in the official pages reviewed. Naughty Dog identifies Nolan North’s performance as Nathan Drake in the games. Its 2026 anniversary post says, “He captured the essence of Nate from the very start of the series and continued to outdo himself with every entry through Uncharted 4.” The comment refers to North’s work in the existing games; it does not announce his involvement in a new one. Tom Holland is a separate case: he played Nathan in Sony Pictures’ 2022 film adaptation, which has its own continuity. The movie casting does not establish who would perform Nathan in a future game. Sony Pictures’ Uncharted page covers the film, not a game sequel.

How to catch up while waiting for official news
For a refresher on the two most relevant recent adventures, PlayStation says Uncharted: Legacy of Thieves Collection includes the single-player stories from Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End and Uncharted: The Lost Legacy. Naughty Dog’s anniversary post also points players to the collection. It is a way to revisit the existing stories, not a prerequisite for an unannounced sequel.
