Argentina’s construction stocks are influenced by activity, costs, demand mix, financing conditions and each company’s balance sheet—not by one construction statistic alone. Start with INDEC’s construction activity index (ISAC), then compare its monthly and annual readings with company-reported volumes, pricing, costs and financial results. Those indicators help explain business conditions; they are context, not a direct forecast of a share price.

Start with construction activity, but read the comparisons separately

INDEC’s Indicador Sintético de la Actividad de la Construcción (ISAC) estimates sector activity using the apparent consumption of a basket of construction inputs. That basket includes cement, reinforcing steel, ready-mix concrete, bricks, tiles, construction paints, plasterboard, plumbing fixtures and other materials. It is a useful gauge of broad construction activity, not a measure of any one listed company’s sales.

INDEC’s June 2026 release illustrates why the comparison period matters: ISAC was up 4.0% year over year in June, while the original series for the first half of 2026 was up 2.8% year over year. At the same time, the seasonally adjusted series fell 4.1% month over month in June. The annual comparison and monthly direction answer different questions; a positive year-over-year rate can coexist with a weaker latest month.

When tracking the series, record the month, whether the measure is original or seasonally adjusted, and whether the change is month over month or year over year. Avoid comparing unlike measures as if they were one continuous trend.

Use construction costs as context, not as a company cost proxy

INDEC’s Construction Cost Index (ICC) covers Greater Buenos Aires, so it should not be described as a national construction-cost index. In June 2026, the Greater Buenos Aires ICC rose 2.6% month over month, with materials up 1.8%, labor up 3.3% and general expenses up 2.8%.

These components help frame the environment facing construction activity, but they do not establish what a particular issuer paid for its inputs. For a company, compare its own selling prices and margins with its filings’ cost disclosures. A producer with energy-intensive operations, for example, may not experience the same cost movement as the ICC’s general materials measure.

Check how demand reaches the company

Construction activity does not flow evenly to every business. A materials producer, contractor and engineering company can have different exposure to private building, public works, infrastructure projects and the timing of customer orders. Policy and financing conditions can also affect whether projects proceed, but a change in those conditions is not proof that a company’s sales or share price will move in a particular direction.

Loma Negra’s 2Q26 materials provide a concrete example of why the demand mix matters. The company said first-half volumes were below its initial expectations and described weaker demand from public works and construction companies. Management identified easing monetary conditions, real-wage recovery and improved access to credit as possible supports for second-half volumes. These were management’s potential supports, not confirmed outcomes or an independent forecast.

Read listed-company results in their stated currencies

Loma Negra (NYSE: LOMA; BYMA: LOMA) is a cement producer whose public disclosures discuss demand, public works, inflation, exchange-rate movements, raw-material and energy costs, and wider business conditions. It is one listed-company example, not a proxy for every construction-related stock in Argentina.

In 2Q26, Loma Negra reported revenue of Ps. 238,053 million, up 2.1% year over year. Adjusted EBITDA was Ps. 48,175 million, down 2.5% year over year in pesos but up 12.5% in US dollars; reported net debt was Ps. 273,650 million. These issuer-reported figures show why the currency basis must travel with the number: the direction of EBITDA growth differed depending on whether it was measured in pesos or US dollars.

For a listed producer, pair headline results with operating disclosures. Useful items include volumes, realized prices, public-versus-private demand, cost and energy sensitivity, debt and refinancing exposure, and the currencies in which revenue, costs and earnings are reported. No one indicator captures all of these.

A practical way to track the indicators

  1. Check ISAC: use INDEC’s monthly release and note the series, reporting month and comparison basis. Keep the annual reading distinct from the seasonally adjusted monthly movement.
  2. Check costs: use the Greater Buenos Aires ICC for its stated geography and examine materials, labor and general expenses separately. Do not treat it as a national or issuer-specific cost measure.
  3. Read the issuer’s latest results: compare volumes, demand mix, pricing, costs, margins and debt with the company’s own prior-period disclosures.
  4. Keep currency and period attached: record whether a result is in pesos or US dollars, the quarter or half-year it covers, and the comparison period.
  5. Revisit outlook against reported results: treat management’s expectations as attributed views, then check subsequent filings to see what actually occurred.

How to compare construction-exposed stocks

A sound comparison begins by confirming that both businesses have meaningful construction exposure. The available evidence here does not establish a complete peer set of Argentine companies, so the comparison should be based on identified issuers and their disclosures rather than an assumed sector list.

Comparison question What to examine
How direct is the exposure? Whether the business sells building materials, performs engineering work or provides construction services, and how directly its revenue depends on construction.
Who drives demand? The disclosed mix of private-sector activity and public works, including any concentration or changes in project demand.
Are volume and pricing moving together? Reported sales volumes and realized prices; rising revenue alone does not show whether demand, pricing or both changed.
What pressures costs? Disclosed exposure to raw materials, labor and energy, compared with the company’s own margins and cost commentary.
How exposed is the balance sheet? Debt, refinancing needs and relevant currency exposure as stated in company filings.
Which currency changes the interpretation? The denomination of revenue, costs, debt and reported earnings, and whether year-over-year comparisons use the same basis.

What the indicators can—and cannot—tell you about a share

ISAC can indicate whether measured construction activity is expanding or contracting; the ICC can describe cost movements in Greater Buenos Aires. Neither tells you by itself how an issuer will convert activity into revenue, margins or cash flow. Company-specific demand exposure, pricing, input costs, debt and currency effects still matter.

Nor do those operating indicators determine a share price on their own. They are inputs for understanding the business environment, not direct share-price forecasts. Interpret them alongside the company’s reported results and the specific periods and currencies those results cover.
