Meta and Amazon Web Services announced an agreement to deploy tens of millions of AWS Graviton cores for CPU-intensive work supporting Meta’s AI efforts, with room to expand. The companies did not disclose an exact core count, price, or deployment schedule, and their announcement does not explicitly name the Graviton processor generation. ServeTheHome reports that AWS will host the compute, so the deal is better understood as an AWS compute arrangement than as a disclosed purchase of standalone chips.
What did Meta and AWS announce?
On April 24, 2026, Meta and AWS said Meta would deploy “tens of millions” of Graviton cores, with the option to expand as its AI capabilities grow. Meta described itself as one of the world’s largest Graviton customers. Neither company published a more precise total. Amazon’s announcement and Meta’s announcement describe the same broad scale.

The companies connect the capacity to CPU-intensive agentic AI work, including real-time reasoning, code generation, search, and coordinating multi-step tasks. They did not say how many cores would be assigned to any one application, nor did they say that the deployment would run on Amazon Bedrock.

The public announcement describes an AWS compute agreement, not a disclosed shipment of processors for Meta to own. ServeTheHome reports that AWS told it the parts would be hosted by AWS; that hosting detail is reported by the outlet rather than set out in a public contract. On that account, the arrangement includes AWS infrastructure around the processors, rather than simply delivering standalone chips to Meta. ServeTheHome’s coverage explains the reported hosting arrangement.

What is public about the deal’s size and terms?
Meta and AWS did not disclose an exact core total, a chip count, or a schedule for deployment. Data Center Dynamics reported that AWS characterized the arrangement in response to a request for comment as a “multibillion-dollar deal over several years”; precise financial terms were not provided. Data Center Dynamics’ report is the source for that characterization.
The “tens of millions” figure counts cores, not chips. AWS says a Graviton5 chip has 192 cores, but the public agreement does not establish that Meta’s deployment uses Graviton5, so dividing the announced core figure by 192 would not produce a verified chip count.

Does the agreement specify Graviton5?
No generation is explicitly identified in the companies’ agreement announcement. AWS’s release discusses Graviton5 and its specifications, but the deal description itself refers to Graviton cores without naming a generation. ServeTheHome likewise noted that the release it reviewed did not specify one. Data Center Dynamics describes the deal as a Graviton5 deployment; that is the outlet’s characterization, not a generation confirmed in the public agreement.

AWS describes Graviton5 as having 192 cores per chip and five times the cache of the previous generation. AWS says the increased cache can reduce inter-core communication delays by up to 33%, and claims up to 25% better performance than the previous generation. Those are AWS product claims; the cited announcement does not provide an independent benchmark. ServeTheHome also lists detailed specifications including Arm Neoverse V3 cores, Armv9.2-A, 2 MB of L2 cache per core, 192 MB of L3 cache, DDR5-8800, PCIe Gen6, a single socket with two NUMA regions, and a 3 nm process. These details are contextual reporting, not proof that Meta’s deal uses that generation.

Why use CPUs for agentic AI?
Meta and AWS emphasize that some work behind AI agents is CPU-intensive. An agent may need to reason in real time, search, generate code, and coordinate several steps. The companies say Graviton capacity will support these kinds of workloads; they have not disclosed the deployment’s precise architecture or workload-by-workload allocation.
For an organization evaluating compute for agentic workloads, useful comparison points include workload fit, price/performance, capacity and availability, latency, memory bandwidth, energy efficiency, and dependency on a particular cloud provider. The deal announcement does not provide a head-to-head test of Graviton against x86 CPUs, GPUs, or other Arm systems, so it cannot establish a general performance ranking.

What does AWS’s capacity demand tell us?
Amazon’s 2026 shareholder letter says two large AWS customers asked to buy all Graviton instance capacity available in 2026. CEO Andy Jassy wrote, “We can’t agree to these requests given other customers’ needs, but it gives you an idea of the demand.” The letter does not name either customer, so it is not evidence that one or both requests came from Meta. Amazon’s shareholder letter supplies broader context on demand for Graviton capacity, not an identification of the customers.
