Uncle Lee’s Cookbook: Five Recipes for Disaster is a single-player indie point-and-click adventure built around puzzle solving, comedy, and science-fiction and fantasy ideas. It is not a cooking simulator or a recipe-management game. You play through five self-contained episodes in which Ines deals with the consequences of her uncle Lee’s experiments, inventions, and cooking.
The game is presented as a compact, story-led adventure: explore strange situations, talk with unusual characters, collect and combine clues or objects, and solve reality-bending problems. Steam lists versions for Windows, macOS, and Linux, plus Steam Deck Verified compatibility, full controller support, a mouse-only option, and a built-in hint system.

The short answer: a five-episode point-and-click puzzle adventure
The most accurate genre description is single-player point-and-click adventure. Puzzle solving is the main activity, while comedy, pixel art, science fiction, magic, and an offbeat family story provide the setting and tone. Steam categorizes it with Adventure and Indie labels and adds point-and-click, puzzle, comedy, science-fiction, magic, pixel graphics, and single-player tags. Those are store categories rather than a formal genre system, but they describe the experience more precisely than the word “cookbook” in the title does.
The game was released on May 12, 2026. Steam identifies Relatively Painless Games as the developer and Dionous Games as the publisher. Its premise centers on Ines and the mess left behind by Uncle Lee’s experiments. “Recipes” refers to the fictional disasters and episodes, not to instructions for preparing food.

Each episode is designed as its own scenario. That structure makes the game closer to a collection of connected adventure stories than to one uninterrupted quest. The five chapters share their central character and comic science-fantasy premise, but each introduces a different problem, setting, and puzzle concept.
What happens in the five episodes?
The store description outlines five reality-bending situations. It does not present them as conventional levels in an action game; each is a self-contained adventure premise that gives you a new set of objects, conversations, and problems to investigate.
1. Quantum behavior changes ordinary objects
One episode deals with altered quantum behavior affecting everyday things. The hook is that familiar objects no longer behave in familiar ways. That kind of premise naturally supports observation and experimentation: you must understand what has changed, identify which rules still apply, and use the altered behavior to progress.

2. A childhood world turns upside down
Another chapter revisits a childhood world that has been dramatically transformed. The contrast between remembered surroundings and their new state supplies the episode’s central mystery. Expect the environment and its characters to be treated as clues rather than as a battlefield.
3. A time-machine mishap
A time-machine accident forms the basis of a third story. Time travel in a point-and-click adventure usually creates problems of sequence, cause and effect, and misplaced objects; the game presents this as one of its science-fiction set pieces rather than as a combat mechanic.
4. A town suffers a paranormal infestation
The fourth premise involves a town affected by a paranormal infestation. It is the most overtly supernatural of the listed scenarios, combining investigation with the game’s magic and horror-comedy flavor. The town functions as a puzzle space in which conversations and environmental details help reveal what is happening.
5. A birthday present causes trouble
The final listed episode starts with a birthday gift that creates new problems. A seemingly thoughtful present becoming a disaster fits the game’s recurring theme: inventions and experiments produce consequences that Ines has to untangle.

The publisher describes all five chapters as involving unusual characters, dialogue, pixel art, and challenging-but-fair puzzles. Those are store descriptions, not the results of independent playtesting, so they should be read as the intended design rather than as a guarantee that every player will find every puzzle fair.
What do you actually do while playing?
Explore point-and-click environments
You move through scenes, inspect objects, and look for details that are easy to miss at first glance. Progress comes from understanding how a location works and what each character or object contributes to the larger problem. The focus is on observation and interpretation, not reflexes.
Talk to characters and follow the logic of the situation
Dialogue is one of the game’s primary tools. Conversations provide context, reveal objectives, and can supply the information needed to interpret an apparently impossible scene. The unusual cast supports the comedy, but dialogue also serves a practical puzzle function: a line of conversation may explain what an object is for or why a character will not cooperate.
Use inventory items and environmental clues
Like other point-and-click adventures, the game asks you to connect things that initially seem unrelated. An item may be useful only after you learn a character’s need, understand a device, or discover a rule governing the current episode. The science-fiction and paranormal premises change the rules from chapter to chapter, so solutions depend on the local logic of each story rather than on one repeated formula.

Ask for help when a puzzle stalls you
A built-in hint system is advertised on the store page. That means the game includes an in-game way to obtain guidance instead of requiring an external walkthrough. The available evidence does not establish how many hint tiers there are or whether hints can be disabled, so players who want a completely spoiler-free experience should check the current in-game settings before relying on it.
Is it a cooking game?
No. Despite the title, it is not a cooking simulator, restaurant-management game, or collection of real recipes. Cooking is part of the fictional setup around Uncle Lee and the disasters his work creates. The actual activities are exploration, dialogue, item-based problem solving, and puzzle interpretation.
That distinction matters when choosing the game. Someone looking for timed kitchen tasks, ingredient systems, or a culinary sandbox is likely looking in the wrong genre. Someone who enjoys absurd inventions, conversational humor, and story puzzles can treat the “cookbook” title as a thematic joke about the five disasters.

Platforms, controls, and Steam features
Steam lists the following platform and feature information. Store availability and language labels can change, so verify the current listing if a particular device or subtitle language is essential to your purchase.
| Category | What is listed | What it means for a player |
|---|---|---|
| Desktop operating systems | Windows, macOS, and SteamOS/Linux system-requirement entries | You can play on the three desktop platforms covered by the store page. Exact hardware figures should be checked on the current listing. |
| Linux support | Native Linux version listed | Linux is presented as a supported release rather than only a compatibility-layer option. |
| Handheld support | Steam Deck Verified | The store marks the game as compatible with Steam Deck. A Deck is optional, not a requirement. |
| Input | Full controller support and a mouse-only option | You can use a gamepad or play with a mouse, which suits the slower, cursor-driven structure. |
| Steam account features | Achievements, Steam Cloud, and family sharing | Progress and platform features are integrated through Steam where those services are available on your account. |
| Audio and subtitles | English interface and full English audio; English, Italian, and German subtitles are currently listed | English is the only listed full-audio language. Subtitle availability should be rechecked because the store page can change. |
A developer update dated August 14, 2026 announced German localization. That explains the German subtitle listing, but localization details remain changeable store information rather than a permanent technical specification.
How does it compare with action-focused games?
The game’s defining choice is what it asks your hands and attention to do. It is suitable for players who prefer thinking through a situation over controlling a character under time pressure.
| If you prefer… | What this game offers | Potential mismatch |
|---|---|---|
| Exploration and investigation | Scenes, characters, and objects supply clues for each episode’s problem. | There is no evidence in the store description of an action-combat loop. |
| Story-driven puzzles | Five separate premises let each chapter introduce a new set of rules. | Players seeking one continuous epic plot may prefer a single-scenario adventure. |
| Comedy and odd situations | Unusual characters and Uncle Lee’s disastrous inventions drive the tone. | The humor may not appeal if you want a serious science-fiction thriller. |
| Flexible input | Mouse-only play and full controller support are listed. | The evidence does not describe touch controls or a mobile version. |
| Help with difficult puzzles | A built-in hint system is available. | Players who want zero assistance should avoid activating hints unless the game offers a disable setting. |
The five-episode format also affects pacing. A chapter can establish a premise, develop its puzzle chain, and conclude without requiring a long-term progression system. That makes the game easier to approach in separate sessions, while players who want a large open world or extensive character-building system should set different expectations.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. How difficult are the puzzles?
The store calls the puzzles challenging but fair and includes a hint system. Those two details indicate an adventure designed to test deduction without leaving players entirely stranded. They do not provide an objective difficulty rating, average completion time, or independent success rate.
Because each episode uses a different science-fiction or supernatural idea, difficulty may come from understanding the chapter’s rule rather than from performing a complicated input sequence. When stuck, first reread recent dialogue, inspect every interactive object again, and ask what has changed in the episode’s reality. The hint system is the built-in fallback when those checks do not reveal the next step.
No reliable published playtime figure is established in the available store information. Two outlet excerpts reproduced on Steam describe the overall package as brief: one reviewer praised the five concepts while saying chapter four alone would have been worth recommending, and another called the complete “five-course meal” a tasty treat that may leave players hungry for more. Those comments suggest a concise experience, but they are opinions rather than a measured completion-time study.

- Valve is entering the gaming console marketplace with the new Steam Deck, a console geared towards PC gamers. The Steam Deck can be docked to a monitor, and used as a PC, or docked to a TV.
- Players can play a huge variety of games at any time with the comfort of a console and the freedom of a PC. Not anti-glare screen.
- Like the name suggests, the Steam Deck will include upgraded 1TB storage, and will include a carrying case. A micro SD slot will also enable expanded storage.
- Valve partnered with AMD to create a specialized APU optimized for handheld gaming, and Valve says the chip will deliver performance to run AAA gaming titles.
- The Steam Deck is outfitted with a 7-inch touchscreen, and two trackpads under the control sticks that allow gamers to operate games never designed outside of mouse and keyboard capabilities.
What do reviewers and players say?
Steam reproduces two attributed review excerpts. Buried Treasure gave the game 81/100 and wrote: “I had a lovely time with this especially interesting approach to the genre. Had it just been chapter 4 alone as a short adventure I’d have still been recommending this, but that the other four excellent conceits around it makes it into something novel and delightful.” Adventure Games Hotspot gave it 80/100 and wrote: “The whole five-course meal may leave you feeling hungry again soon after you’re done, but it’s certainly a tasty treat while it lasts.”
These are outlet-attributed excerpts, not quotations from named individual speakers, and they should not be treated as a broad consensus. Steam’s review counts and positive-review percentage can change over time, so any current numerical rating should be checked directly on the store page with an access date.

A Steam Community demo comment says the player completed the demo twice and compared the graphics with early LucasArts games. That is one player’s description, not a representative graphics survey, but it gives a useful indication of how the pixel-art presentation may register for fans of older adventure games.
Who is this game for?
- Adventure-game fans: The point-and-click structure, dialogue, inventory reasoning, and chapter-based mysteries are the core appeal.
- Players who enjoy comic science fiction and fantasy: Quantum oddities, time travel, paranormal trouble, and magical ideas supply the episode premises.
- Fans of pixel-art presentation: The store lists pixel graphics, and one demo player compared the look with early LucasArts adventures.
- Players who want flexible hardware: Windows, macOS, Linux, mouse-only play, controller support, and Steam Deck Verified status cover several setups.
- People who like guided puzzle experiences: The built-in hint system offers assistance without requiring an external guide.
It may be a poor fit if you specifically want a cooking simulator, an action game, a competitive multiplayer title, a large open-world RPG, or a long campaign with character statistics and equipment progression. None of those systems is identified in the store description.
How is it sold, and what do you need?
The reviewed store evidence presents Uncle Lee’s Cookbook: Five Recipes for Disaster as a digital game. No physical edition, printed game guide, collectible, or required accessory is established. A Steam Deck can be used because the listing marks the game Verified, but owning one is not necessary; a supported Windows, macOS, or Linux computer is enough.
For a purchase decision, check three details on the live store page: the current hardware requirements for your operating system, the latest language list, and the current Steam review metrics. The title released in 2026, and those platform details can be updated after launch.

Uncle Lee’s Cookbook: Five Recipes for Disaster is best understood as a compact, comic, five-episode point-and-click puzzle adventure. Its “recipes” are fictional disasters involving experiments, inventions, time, paranormal problems, and an unfortunate birthday gift—not cooking tasks. Choose it for dialogue, exploration, pixel-art atmosphere, and unusual puzzles; skip it if you are looking for action combat or a culinary simulation.
