What is ZERO PARADES: Director’s Cut?
ZERO PARADES: For Dead Spies, usually styled ZERO PARADES, is a narrative-focused espionage cRPG from ZA/UM. You play Hershel Wilk, alias CASCADE, an operant—the game’s term for a spy—recalled to Portofiro after a mission five years earlier ended with the destruction of her network. Her new assignment gives her a chance to rebuild that network, find allies and informants, and navigate a city caught in a three-way cultural and ideological struggle. ZA/UM’s Steam listing and its official game site describe the premise without establishing the full plot.

The city’s cast reflects the game’s unusual tone: official descriptions mention international bankers, foreign techno-fascists, psychic doppelgängers, and a paranoid television presenter. These are ingredients of the setup, not a complete synopsis.
How does ZERO PARADES gameplay work?
Gameplay combines investigation, conversation, subterfuge, deduction, and the possibility of violence. The Steam listing describes 15 skills; the PlayStation Store highlights Tactical View, skill checks, and choices that can affect loyalties, available paths, and Hershel’s mental state. Skills can act as voices that comment on events, but ZA/UM’s press materials caution that they are not always trustworthy. Inventory tools can also help with access, manipulation, disguises, and other forms of spycraft.

Dramatic Encounters and dice rolls
In a Dramatic Encounter, time pauses while you assess an urgent situation and choose how Hershel responds. Dice rolls influenced by her attributes determine whether actions succeed. A failed roll does not necessarily end the sequence: ZA/UM describes the design as “fail forward,” with the story continuing and failure potentially making the assignment harder. As Sven Paluch, ZA/UM’s Marketing Director, put it in a PlayStation Blog gameplay overview published September 24, 2025: “The story continues no matter what happens – you’ll just be better off if it goes well.”
Exertion and mental pressures
Hershel can exert herself to push a roll toward success, but doing so comes at a cost. The PlayStation Store names Fatigue, Anxiety, and Delirium as pressures to manage; the Steam listing warns that pushing too far can cause lasting damage. That makes a difficult check a judgment call: a better chance now may create trouble later.

Conditioning and build choices
Conditioning lets players reinforce thoughts that affect Hershel’s identity, skills, and possible routes. ZA/UM presents it as a faster, spy-focused evolution of the Thought Cabinet concept from Disco Elysium. The system is not just a menu of bonuses: the ideas Hershel adopts shape how she approaches the assignment.

Is ZERO PARADES connected to Disco Elysium?
The confirmed connection is ZA/UM and a recognizable design lineage, not established plot continuity. ZA/UM has described ZERO PARADES as its next game after Disco Elysium; its marketing director has said players familiar with that game and other cRPGs will recognize the lineage. Conditioning also develops the Thought Cabinet idea in a new form.
But ZERO PARADES has its own protagonist, Hershel Wilk, and its own setting, Portofiro. The official material cited here does not establish that it is a sequel, takes place in Revachol, or shares Disco Elysium characters or story. So it is fair to compare their role-playing sensibilities and systems, but not to treat a shared fictional universe as confirmed.

Platforms, release dates, and languages
The press kit lists PC (Steam, Epic Games Store, and GOG) and PlayStation 5. ZA/UM announced that the PC version launched on May 21, 2026. The US PlayStation Store lists November 3, 2026 for the PS5 version; because that date is still in the future as of October 4, 2026, it is a scheduled date rather than a completed release.

At the PC launch, ZA/UM announced English voice-over and full text localization in English, German, Russian, Simplified Chinese, and Latin American Spanish. The same announcement described French, Italian, Japanese, Korean, Polish, Brazilian Portuguese, Traditional Chinese, and Turkish as planned free updates; that announcement alone does not confirm which of those planned localizations have since shipped.
