wrar550id by .adanichell.exe has no verified public identity as a Windows component or an official WinRAR file. Treat it as an unknown executable and do not launch it until you have checked its location, signature, hash, and origin. Closely related files named wrar550.exe were classified as malicious, Trojan, or adware-related in multiple 2018 sandbox reports, so a look-alike installer deserves careful containment.
The safest order is: stop execution, isolate the computer if compromise is possible, quarantine and scan the file, remove persistence, then reinstall any legitimate application that was damaged. Windows repair commands can address remaining system corruption, but they should not be the first response to a suspicious executable.

What the identifier means—and what it does not prove
The complete text may be a filename, an error-window description, or a combination of a file name and a label supplied by another program. The unusual .adanichell.exe ending does not identify a standard Windows process. Microsoft does not use a filename alone to establish trust, and a name containing wrar is not proof that the file came from WinRAR.

No verified public record establishes the exact wrar550id by .adanichell.exe identifier. That means its safety cannot be confirmed from the text alone. It should remain untrusted until the actual file and its provenance have been examined.

What related samples showed
These reports concern closely related wrar550.exe names, not proof that every file with a similar name is identical. They do, however, justify a cautious response:
| Source and date | Sample or listing | Recorded behavior or classification |
|---|---|---|
| ANY.RUN, March 12, 2018 | wrar550.exe |
Verdict: “Malicious activity.” The report recorded startup persistence, network access, dropped executables, and antivirus detections. |
| ANY.RUN, June 19, 2018 | wrar550.exe |
Labeled the sample a Trojan and recorded executable downloads, dropped or rewritten executables, and changed Internet-zone settings. |
| Hybrid Analysis/Falcon Sandbox, February 21, 2018 | wrar550.exe |
Recorded persistence-related behavior, remote-process memory writes, contact with 33 domains and 20 hosts, and detections involving adware or Trojan behavior. |
| ThreatInfo database | wrar550.exe and wrar550 (1).exe |
Listed the files as Adware.Downloader and Trojan.Agent, respectively. |
| Malwarebytes, 2026 | Fake WinRAR downloads generally | Reported that a genuine installer can be used to hide an additional payload that downloads more malware, establishes persistence, exfiltrates data, or opens a backdoor. |
Those findings are warning signs, not an identification of the exact file on your computer. The decisive evidence is the file’s path, signature, hash, metadata, and download history.
How to decide whether your copy is legitimate
Check the full path
In the error dialog or File Explorer, copy the complete path. A normal application is usually installed beneath a predictable publisher or application directory. A randomly named executable in a temporary folder, a user profile’s download directory, a hidden application-data folder, or a directory created immediately before the error warrants extra scrutiny. Location alone is not proof either way, but it tells you what to investigate.
Check the publisher signature
Right-click the file, choose Properties, and open Digital Signatures if that tab is present. Select the signature, choose Details, and confirm that Windows reports a valid signature and that the signer is the publisher you expected. An absent, invalid, or unrelated signature is a reason to stop, not a reason to bypass the warning. A valid signature increases confidence but does not make an unexpected download safe.
Record a hash and metadata
Do not repeatedly open the file just to inspect it. In Windows Terminal or PowerShell, run these commands with the real path:

Get-AuthenticodeSignature -LiteralPath 'C:fullpathwrar550id.exe'
Get-Item -LiteralPath 'C:fullpathwrar550id.exe' | Select-Object FullName,Length,CreationTime,LastWriteTime,VersionInfo
Save the SHA-256 value, signature status, creation and modification times, and version information. Compare them with values published by the application’s official publisher when such values are available. There is no established hash for the exact identifier in this article’s evidence, so a matching-looking filename is not a substitute.
Contain the file before trying to repair Windows
1. Stop launching it
Close the error dialog and any installer or archive window that opened it. Do not click prompts asking you to approve elevated access, install a missing DLL, or disable security software. Leave the file in place long enough to record its path and hash unless it is actively causing damage.
2. Disconnect when there are signs of active compromise
If you see unexplained outbound traffic, new accounts, credential-theft warnings, ransomware behavior, rapid file changes, or repeated downloads, disconnect Wi-Fi from the taskbar or unplug Ethernet. On a managed or business computer, follow your organization’s incident-response procedure instead of reconnecting to “test” the file. Isolation limits further communication while you investigate.
3. Preserve useful evidence
Record the time of the alert, the complete path, the file size, the SHA-256 hash, the download source, and any security-product detection name. A screenshot of the error and the file’s Properties window can help an administrator or incident responder. Do not upload confidential files to an online scanner without permission.
Quarantine and scan with Windows security tools
Run a full scan
- Open Settings.
- On Windows 11, choose Privacy & security; on Windows 10, choose Update & Security.
- Open Windows Security, then Virus & threat protection.
- Choose Scan options, select Full scan, and start it.
Allow the scan to finish. If Windows Security identifies the file, choose Quarantine or Remove rather than Allow on device. Review Protection history afterward and note the detection name and affected path. If another endpoint-protection product is installed, use its quarantine function and full-scan option as well; avoid running multiple real-time engines simultaneously unless their documentation supports it.

Use Microsoft Defender Offline for persistent threats
For a file that returns after reboot, interferes with security software, or is suspected of starting before Windows loads, return to Virus & threat protection, open Scan options, choose Microsoft Defender Offline scan, and select Scan now. Save work first: the computer restarts and scans outside the normal Windows session. Review the result after Windows starts again.
Remove persistence only after containment
Malicious or unwanted executables can arrange to start again. Review each location below after quarantine. Remove or disable an entry only when its command points to the suspicious file or to software you can positively identify as unwanted. Do not disable every unknown-looking item indiscriminately; many Windows and hardware components have technical names.
Startup applications
- Windows 11: open Settings > Apps > Startup.
- Windows 10: open Settings > Apps > Startup, or open Task Manager and select the Startup tab.
- In Task Manager on current Windows versions, select Startup apps. Disable an entry tied to the recorded path, then investigate its publisher and command before deleting anything.
Scheduled tasks
Search for Task Scheduler and open Task Scheduler Library. Inspect recently created or recently run tasks. In the Actions tab, check the executable path and arguments. Export a task or record its details before deleting it. Remove only a task whose action clearly launches the quarantined file or an associated unwanted component.
Run keys and services
Use regedit only if you are comfortable working in the registry. Before changing a key, select it and choose File > Export to create a backup. Review these common startup locations:
HKEY_CURRENT_USERSoftwareMicrosoftWindowsCurrentVersionRunHKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESoftwareMicrosoftWindowsCurrentVersionRun- On 64-bit Windows, the corresponding locations under
Wow6432Nodemay also be used.
Delete a value only when its data points to the quarantined file or a clearly related unwanted program. In services.msc, inspect services created around the incident and check their executable path. Stop and remove a service only when you can establish that relationship; removing a legitimate driver or system service can make Windows unbootable.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors2Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute3Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsRank #4

Browser extensions and installed applications
Open each browser’s Extensions or Add-ons manager and remove an extension installed at the same time as the suspicious file unless you recognize and need it. Then open Settings > Apps > Installed apps (or Apps & features on older Windows 10 builds), sort by installation date, and uninstall software you cannot identify and that appeared with the incident. Record its name and publisher before uninstalling so an administrator can correlate it with the alert.
Delete remnants carefully
Quarantine is preferable to manual deletion because it preserves a controlled copy for review. If your security product did not quarantine the file and you have confirmed the exact path, close programs that use it and delete it from File Explorer. If Windows reports that the file is in use, reboot and scan again rather than forcing deletion immediately.
When you must use an elevated PowerShell window, replace the path and verify it character by character before pressing Enter:
Remove-Item -LiteralPath 'C:fullpathwrar550id.exe' -Force
Do not run a wildcard such as Remove-Item *.exe in a system directory. Empty the Recycle Bin only after you are sure no legitimate file was removed. Re-run a full scan after deletion and again after the next reboot.

Repair the legitimate application after malware risk is addressed
Reinstall from the official publisher
If the suspicious file belonged to an application that now fails, uninstall that application through Settings > Apps > Installed apps, restart, and obtain a fresh installer from the application’s official publisher. Do not use cracked installers, “DLL fixer” sites, file-sharing mirrors, or an unofficial WinRAR copy. A fake installer is a documented way to deliver a real-looking application together with an unwanted payload.

Before running the replacement installer, check its publisher signature, version metadata, installation path, and hash against the publisher’s documentation when available. Keep the downloaded installer until its signature and scan results have been checked. If the application has an in-product repair option, use it only after the suspicious executable has been contained.
Do not download a standalone DLL to silence the message
“The application cannot start” messages often tempt users to download a similarly named DLL. That can introduce another untrusted file and may not match the application’s architecture or version. Reinstall the complete application or use its official repair process instead.
Repair Windows system files only if corruption remains
Run these commands after containment, not as a substitute for malware removal. Open Windows Terminal (Admin) or Command Prompt (Admin) and run:
DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth
Wait for DISM to finish, then run:
sfc /scannow
Restart when prompted and test the legitimate application again. DISM repairs the Windows component store and System File Checker verifies protected system files; neither command proves that a third-party executable is safe. If Windows cannot boot normally, use Settings > System > Recovery > Advanced startup > Restart now on Windows 11, or Settings > Update & Security > Recovery on Windows 10, then choose Troubleshoot > Advanced options. Startup Repair or Safe Mode can help you complete scans and remove a confirmed persistence entry.
If the file returns or the error persists
Use Safe Mode for a locked file
From the recovery menu, choose Troubleshoot > Advanced options > Startup Settings > Restart, then press 4 for Safe Mode. Use 5 for Safe Mode with Networking only when a required, trusted support process needs network access. Run the scan and review startup and scheduled-task entries there. Reboot normally afterward and scan again.
Check whether the alert is coming from a different path
A recurring pop-up may be launching a second copy from a different directory. Compare the path in every new alert with the original record. Search File Explorer for the exact filename, but do not open results. Check the Details and Digital Signatures tabs for each copy and quarantine each confirmed match through security software.
Escalate when compromise is plausible
Stop self-repair and contact professional incident response if the computer is managed, contains sensitive business or personal data, shows continuing outbound connections, or exhibits credential theft, ransomware, or repeated reinfection. From a separate, clean device, change passwords that may have been used on the affected computer and revoke active sessions where the service supports it. Keep the affected machine isolated until the responsible administrator gives you a recovery plan.
Use these checks when replacing the file
| Check | What supports legitimacy | Warning sign |
|---|---|---|
| Publisher signature | Valid signature from the expected software publisher | No signature, an invalid signature, or an unrelated signer |
| Download source | Installer obtained from the publisher’s official distribution channel | Cracked, repacked, shared, or unofficial mirror |
| Hash | Matches a hash published for the same version and region, when the publisher provides one | No matching value or a hash that changes unexpectedly |
| Install path | Matches the application’s documented directory | Temporary, hidden, or unrelated user-profile directory |
| Version metadata | Product name, version, and copyright information agree with the installed release | Blank, inconsistent, or misspelled metadata |
| Application documentation | The official documentation references the executable or its location | The filename is justified only by its similarity to a trusted name |
Filename similarity is the weakest of these checks. A legitimate replacement should satisfy several independent checks before you run it.
Quick Recap
Common mistakes to avoid
- Launching the file repeatedly to see whether the error is “real.”
- Allowing a security alert because the filename resembles WinRAR.
- Deleting startup entries, registry values, or services without recording their paths.
- Downloading a replacement DLL from a generic DLL site.
- Running Windows repair commands before quarantining a suspicious executable.
- Reconnecting an isolated computer before scans and persistence checks are complete.
- Assuming that deleting one copy proves the system is clean when the file may have created scheduled tasks or additional executables.
As an optional shortcut after containment, Outbyte PC Repair can address more than 100 common Windows issues, including broken system elements, invalid redirects, shared DLL problems, settings that increase CPU, RAM or disk load, temporary and cache cleanup, vulnerability checks, and an app-crash log. It complements antivirus software rather than replacing it; results vary and no tool repairs every crash. It runs on Windows 11, 10, 8 and 7 and offers a category-based free trial of at least two days before a paid subscription.
