warp-svc.exe is the Windows service installed by Cloudflare WARP, also called the Cloudflare One Client. It establishes the WireGuard tunnel and coordinates communication between Cloudflare’s service endpoint and the desktop client. The documented installation path is C:Program FilesCloudflareCloudflare WARPwarp-svc.exe.
A copy in that folder is consistent with a normal WARP installation. A file with the same name in Downloads, Temp, AppData or another unrelated folder is not authenticated by that location alone. Verify its publisher and scan it before allowing it to run or deleting anything. Most service errors are caused by an incomplete installation, outdated prerequisites, DNS or TLS interception, firewall rules, client configuration, or a stale WARP version—not by the executable being a generic Windows component.

What warp-svc.exe does
Cloudflare WARP installs a background service (the WARP daemon) rather than relying only on the visible tray application. That daemon is the core process responsible for establishing encrypted connections and handling client functionality on the device. On Windows, warp-svc.exe performs that service role.

The tunnel and the desktop app
The service establishes the WireGuard tunnel, maintains the connection state, and handles interaction between Cloudflare’s service endpoint and the client interface. The tray or desktop application is the user interface; stopping the service can therefore make the interface show disconnected, prevent policy changes from applying, or leave the computer without WARP protection until the service returns.

Cloudflare documents the executable at:
C:Program FilesCloudflareCloudflare WARPwarp-svc.exe
Daemon logs are stored under C:ProgramDataCloudflare. User-interface logs are normally under %LOCALAPPDATA%Cloudflare or the user-profile location documented for the installed client. The exact subfolders can vary by client release.
Is warp-svc.exe safe?
The name alone does not prove authenticity. A file in Cloudflare’s documented Program Files directory, signed by the expected publisher, is consistent with a legitimate installation. A file elsewhere may be a copied, renamed or unrelated program. Cloudflare’s installation path is a location reference, not a malware verdict.

- Press Ctrl+Shift+Esc to open Task Manager.
- Find warp-svc.exe in the process list. If it is not visible, open the Details tab and look for the same name.
- Right-click it and choose Open file location.
- Confirm that the folder is
C:Program FilesCloudflareCloudflare WARP, not a temporary, downloads or user-data folder.
You can also open Services (services.msc) and locate the Cloudflare WARP service. Its executable path can be viewed in the service’s properties.
Check the digital signature
- Right-click the file, choose Properties, and open Digital Signatures.
- Inspect the signer and open Signature Details to confirm that Windows reports a valid signature.
- If the tab is missing, the signature is invalid, or the signer does not match the installed Cloudflare client, do not grant the file additional permissions. Record its path and scan it with Windows Security.
Do not download a replacement named warp-svc.exe from a third-party DLL or “missing file” site. Reinstall the official WARP client instead.

Collect evidence before changing anything
Diagnostics are more useful when they capture the failure instead of a later, working state. Note the exact time, the network you were using, whether WARP was set to Connected or Disconnected, and the text of any error. If the problem is intermittent, record several times.
Run warp-diag
- Open Command Prompt or PowerShell. Administrator rights are not always required, but use an elevated window if Windows refuses to create the report.
- Run
warp-diag. - Reproduce the failure first if possible, then run the command immediately so the report contains the relevant event.
- On Windows, Cloudflare places a timestamped file named in the form
warp-debugging-info-<date>-<time>.zipon the desktop.
The archive can show service state, configuration and connectivity clues. Treat it as sensitive: it may contain device, network and account information, so share it only with a trusted administrator or Cloudflare support and follow your organization’s data-handling rules.
Review the logs
- Daemon/service logs: inspect
C:ProgramDataCloudflare. - Client-interface logs: inspect
%LOCALAPPDATA%Cloudflareand the user-profile path used by your release. - Windows events: check Event Viewer > Windows Logs > Application and System around the recorded failure time. Look for service-start failures, driver errors, DNS failures or blocked network components.
Preserve the original log files before clearing caches or reinstalling; otherwise the evidence that explains the failure may disappear.
How to fix warp-svc.exe and WARP errors
1. Confirm the service is installed and running
- Press Win+R, type
services.msc, and press Enter. - Locate the Cloudflare WARP service. Open its properties and check the Service status, Startup type and executable path.
- If it is stopped, choose Start. If it starts and immediately stops, record the Windows error and inspect the logs before repeatedly restarting it.
- Leave the startup type at the value selected by the installer or your organization’s policy. A disabled service will prevent normal WARP operation.
If the service is missing while the WARP application remains listed, the installation is incomplete. Skip to the clean reinstall procedure rather than copying an executable into the folder.
2. Repair the Windows prerequisite
Cloudflare identifies .NET Framework 4.7.2 or later as a prerequisite for the Windows client. An installer that exits early, a service that never registers, or a client that crashes during setup can result from a missing or damaged framework.

- Open Settings > Apps > Optional features > More Windows features, or use Microsoft’s installed-program list, to determine whether .NET Framework is present.
- Install or repair version 4.7.2 or a later supported version using Microsoft’s official Windows component installer.
- Restart Windows, then run the WARP installer again.
On managed PCs, software installation may be restricted by policy; ask the administrator to repair the prerequisite rather than using an unapproved package.

3. Test DNS without WARP
A WARP connection depends on name resolution before it can establish or maintain its tunnel. A local DNS proxy failure can produce CF_DNS_LOOKUP_FAILURE, which means the client cannot resolve hostnames through its configured path.
- Disconnect WARP from its client menu or stop it temporarily through the supported interface.
- Open a Command Prompt and test a known hostname with
nslookup example.com. Replace the example with a hostname you are permitted to test. - If resolution fails with WARP disabled, repair the underlying network, router or DNS configuration first.
- If resolution works only when WARP is disabled, look for a DNS filter, security product, captive portal, proxy or TLS-interception device that is blocking the local WARP DNS proxy.
Do not permanently change DNS servers just to hide the symptom. First identify whether the blocker is on the computer, the local network or an organization-wide gateway.
4. Check TLS interception and security software
Third-party security products, inspection proxies and enterprise gateways can intercept encrypted traffic. If the inspection certificate is missing, expired or not trusted by the WARP client, the service may fail to connect even though ordinary browsing works.
- Temporarily test on a trusted network that does not use the same inspection system.
- Check whether a proxy, HTTPS inspection feature or network filter was recently enabled.
- Ask the network administrator to confirm that Cloudflare WARP traffic is permitted and that required certificates are deployed correctly.
- Do not permanently disable antivirus or firewall protection as a troubleshooting shortcut. Use a controlled test and restore protection immediately.
5. Verify firewall allow-listing
A local firewall can block the service, its tunnel components or its updater. Review the firewall’s allowed-app and outbound-rule lists for the installed Cloudflare WARP service and updater paths. Rules should point to the actual signed files in the Cloudflare Program Files directory, not to a copy in another folder.

On a managed device, have the administrator apply the organization’s documented WARP rules. On a personal device, remove obsolete rules left by an older installation and then reinstall so the current paths are registered again.
6. Distinguish a Windows NCSI warning from a real outage
Windows can display No Internet access even when applications can reach the internet. This indicator is based on Microsoft’s Network Connectivity Status Indicator (NCSI) probes, not on a complete test of every tunnel or website. Cloudflare documents cases where WARP works but NCSI’s active-probing or global-DNS configuration gives a misleading status.
- Test several permitted websites and an internal resource, if applicable, instead of relying only on the tray icon.
- Check the NCSI-related policy and registry configuration against Cloudflare’s current Windows guidance.
- On an organization-managed PC, ask the administrator before changing active-probing or global-DNS settings; policy may intentionally disable those probes.
If applications truly cannot resolve names or reach destinations, treat it as a connectivity problem rather than a cosmetic NCSI label.
7. Check client configuration and registration
Organizations can apply enrollment, proxy, split-tunnel, DNS or traffic-filtering policies. A profile that is expired, assigned to the wrong team or no longer matches the network can prevent the service from becoming connected.
- Open the WARP client and check whether it asks for registration, an organization name or a login.
- Verify that the device is enrolled with the correct organization if your employer or school manages WARP.
- Do not delete organization configuration files or edit policy settings without approval; doing so can make re-enrollment harder.
- Use
warp-diagand the daemon logs to give the administrator the exact failure time and state.
8. Update an old client
Cloudflare’s Windows security advisory, published June 20, 2023, identified an IPC access-control vulnerability in WARP Windows versions before 2023.3.381.0. Version 2023.3.381.0 fixed that issue. If your installation predates that version, update rather than continuing to troubleshoot the legacy build.
After updating, verify the installed version in the client’s About or Settings screen and confirm that the executable’s signature and path still match the expected installation.
9. Reinstall cleanly when the service or files are damaged
- Save the diagnostic ZIP and relevant logs.
- Open Settings > Apps > Installed apps (or Apps & features on older Windows) and uninstall Cloudflare WARP.
- Restart Windows. This releases service handles and tunnel components that may remain loaded.
- Download the current Windows installer from Cloudflare’s official distribution channel, verify that it is intended for your Windows edition, and install it.
- Launch the client and complete registration or organization enrollment if required.
- Test first on a normal network, then on the network where the original failure occurred.
Do not manually delete warp-svc.exe while the service is still installed. Manual deletion can leave a broken service entry, missing uninstall information and permissions that prevent a clean reinstall.

Can you disable or remove warp-svc.exe?
Temporarily disable WARP
Use the WARP client’s own Disconnect or Disable controls when you only need ordinary network access temporarily. This leaves the installation intact and makes it easy to reconnect. If you stop the service in services.msc, the client may show an error and Windows or an organization policy may start it again.

Remove WARP completely
Uninstall through Settings > Apps > Installed apps > Cloudflare WARP > Uninstall. Restart afterward and check Services and the Program Files folder for remnants. If the uninstaller fails, use the saved diagnostics and Windows application logs, then rerun the current installer and uninstall it normally; do not use a third-party “force removal” utility that deletes service files blindly.
When removal is the wrong choice
If WARP is required by an employer, school or security policy, removing it can violate access requirements and leave you unable to reach internal resources. Ask the administrator to change enrollment or policy instead. If your goal is only to fix a crash or DNS error, repair or update the client before uninstalling.
Windows versions and hardware limits
Cloudflare documents support for the client on Windows 11, Windows 10, Windows 8 and Windows 7, subject to the release’s own support status and prerequisites. The client is not documented to run on Windows Server. Windows ARM devices can sometimes remain disconnected during connection or the first installation, so an ARM-specific failure should not be diagnosed as proof that warp-svc.exe is malicious.
