WacomHost.exe is a background component of the Wacom tablet driver. A copy installed under a Wacom folder in C:Program FilesTablet (or a similar Wacom Program Files directory) and digitally signed by Wacom Technology Corp. is consistent with the genuine process. The filename alone is not proof of safety: an unsigned copy, a copy in an unrelated folder, or one detected by security software needs investigation.
When the process fails to start, Windows or Wacom Center may report “Supported tablet not found,” “Tablet driver not responding,” or “Tablet driver not found.” The safest repair is to verify the executable first, then perform a clean Wacom driver installation, collect logs if necessary, and repair Windows system files only when symptoms extend beyond Wacom software.

What WacomHost.exe does
WacomHost.exe is one of the processes used by Wacom’s Windows tablet driver. Wacom lists it with Wacom_Tablet.exe, Wacom_TabletUser.exe, Wacom_TouchUser.exe, and WTabletServicePro.exe as processes that should be present when the driver is functioning. Together, these components provide the communication layer between Windows and a compatible Wacom tablet, pen, touch input, and configuration software.
It is normal for WacomHost.exe to remain running after you close a drawing application. The driver must be ready to detect the tablet and deliver pen or touch events to any application that needs them. Its presence in Task Manager therefore is not, by itself, evidence of a problem. High CPU or memory use, repeated crashes, a missing process, or a tablet that is not detected are the signs that require troubleshooting.

Why the process can be running when you are not using the tablet
Wacom’s driver services start with Windows or when a user signs in so that a tablet can work immediately after it is connected. Ending the process manually may make the tablet stop responding until the driver service is restarted. If you need to test whether it is involved in a fault, record its path and signature first, then restart the Wacom services or Windows rather than repeatedly terminating random processes.
Is WacomHost.exe safe?
A genuine copy is normally safe, but the name can be copied by unrelated software. An independent file record identifies “Wacom Host,” product “Wacom Load Agent,” publisher Wacom Technology Corp., and a Wacom digital signature. That record lists common locations such as C:Program FilesTabletpenwacomhost.exe and C:Program Filestabletwacomwacomhost.exe. Its scan record showed 0 detections out of 68 for one identified file hash on 2026-09-26. That is corroboration for that particular hash, not a safety guarantee for every file named WacomHost.exe.
Use the path and signature, not the filename
- Press Ctrl+Shift+Esc to open Task Manager. If the compact view appears, select More details.
- Open the Details tab, find
WacomHost.exe, right-click it, and choose Open file location. Copy the full path for your records. - Right-click the executable, select Properties, and open Digital Signatures. The signer should identify Wacom Technology Corp. and the signature should report as valid when you view its details.
- In Windows Security, choose Virus & threat protection, install any pending security-intelligence updates, and run a scan of the file or its containing folder. Do not rely on a third-party download site to replace the executable.
A path inside a Wacom directory under Program Files plus a valid Wacom signature is consistent with the expected component. Treat a copy in a user profile, temporary folder, system folder unrelated to Wacom, or another unexpected location as suspicious until you can establish its origin. A broken or absent signature, a warning from security software, or a process that launches from a different path should be investigated before you allow it to run.

The 0/68 result noted above applies to one hash on one date. Files can be modified, replaced, or renamed, and detection engines can change. Conversely, a false positive is possible. If Windows Security flags your copy, quarantine it according to the security product’s instructions and obtain the driver from Wacom’s official support site rather than restoring an unverified file.

Symptoms and likely causes
Wacom’s documented symptoms include “Supported tablet not found,” “Tablet driver not responding,” and “Tablet driver not found.” The same underlying problem can appear as a pen that moves the pointer but has no pressure, touch input that disappears, settings that will not open, or a driver process that repeatedly exits.

Antivirus blocking is a particularly important distinction. Wacom advises checking for the five driver processes named earlier. If they appear only while antivirus protection is disabled, do not leave protection off. Ask the antivirus vendor how to allow the Wacom driver components, using the verified installation path and signature as evidence.
Safe repair sequence
Work through these steps in order. Keep the exact error message, tablet model, Windows version, executable path, and any log files. That information prevents a clean reinstall from turning into guesswork.
1. Record the failure
- Write down the exact wording shown by Wacom Center, Windows, or the application.
- Note when it started and whether it followed a Windows update, Wacom update, security-product change, USB move, or account change.
- In Task Manager’s Details tab, record whether these processes are present:
WacomHost.exe,Wacom_Tablet.exe,Wacom_TabletUser.exe,Wacom_TouchUser.exe, andWTabletServicePro.exe. - For each Wacom process that is present, use Open file location and save the full path. Do not assume that similarly named files in different folders are interchangeable.
2. Verify the executable and scan it
Use the signature and path checks described above. Run Windows Security against the file or its folder. If the file is not signed by Wacom Technology Corp., is in an unrelated location, or is flagged, do not download a replacement from a DLL or EXE repository. Preserve the alert details and proceed with a clean installation from Wacom’s official driver page after resolving the security warning.

3. Check for security-product blocking
Review your antivirus or endpoint-security history for blocked Wacom components. Temporarily disabling protection can be a diagnostic test only, not a repair. If the five processes start with protection disabled, re-enable protection immediately and follow the security vendor’s documented allow-list process. Use the exact verified Wacom path; do not create a broad exclusion for an entire drive or for every executable named WacomHost.exe.
4. Perform Wacom’s manual uninstall
Use Wacom’s current manual Windows uninstall procedure for your driver generation. Remove Wacom software through Windows’ installed-apps or Programs and Features interface as directed, then remove the leftover Wacom files and folders that Wacom’s procedure specifically identifies. The clean-up matters because an in-place update can leave an incompatible service, preference file, or host component behind.
- Disconnect the tablet when Wacom’s procedure tells you to do so.
- Close creative applications and Wacom Center before uninstalling.
- Follow the procedure for your Windows edition and driver package rather than deleting arbitrary folders.
- Restart Windows after the documented files and folders have been removed.
Do not delete a folder merely because its name contains “Tablet” or “Wacom” if another Wacom product still depends on it. When a step is unclear, use Wacom Support’s instructions for the exact driver release.

- Identify the exact tablet model from the device label, original packaging, or Wacom Center documentation.
- Download the Windows driver for that model from Wacom’s official driver page. Avoid repackaged installers.
- Run the installer with the permissions it requests and allow it to complete without putting the computer to sleep.
- Restart Windows when prompted, then reconnect the tablet directly to the computer and open Wacom Center.
- Confirm that the tablet is detected and test pen pressure, buttons, touch, and the application that previously failed.
If the installer reports that a newer version is already present, return to the uninstall procedure rather than mixing files from two driver generations. Keep the installer filename and version with your troubleshooting notes.

Find and interpret Wacom logs
Logs can distinguish an installation failure from a running driver that cannot communicate with the tablet.
Installation and configuration locations
- Wacom documents tablet-driver installation logs in
C:Program FilesTabletWacom. - The installation file is documented as
C:Program FilesTabletWacomInstall.log. - Most other Wacom software logs are in
%TEMP%. - User settings are stored under
C:Users[Userid]AppDataRoamingWTablet. In Windows Explorer, replace[Userid]with the signed-in account name; it is not a literal folder name.
Open a log in a text editor and search for the exact error, “failed,” “blocked,” “service,” or the tablet model. Preserve the original file before editing or emailing it. A log showing a successful copy operation does not prove that the service later started, so compare it with Task Manager and Wacom Center.
Driver Logging in Wacom Center 6.4.0 and later
- Open Wacom Center and enable Driver Logging for driver version 6.4.0 or later.
- Reproduce the fault once: connect the tablet, open the affected application, and perform the action that causes the error.
- Choose Package log files. Wacom says a confirmation appears and a
WacomLogs.waczipfile is placed on the Desktop. - Send that package to Wacom Support with the model, Windows version, exact symptom, and the time of reproduction.
- Turn Driver Logging off after capture. Wacom warns that logs continue to grow while logging remains enabled.
The default Driver Logging directory is C:WacomLogs. If the package is not created, verify that Wacom Center is running with the installed driver version that supports this feature and check available disk space and permissions.
Repair Windows files when the problem is broader
Use Windows’ servicing tools when unrelated applications also report corruption, Windows components fail, or the Wacom installer itself cannot use system files. These commands do not replace the Wacom-specific uninstall and reinstall path.
- Open Windows Terminal (Admin) or Command Prompt (Admin).
- Run
DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealthand wait for it to finish. Do not close the window if progress appears to pause. - After DISM completes, run
sfc /scannow. - Restart Windows, then test Wacom Center and the tablet again.
Record the final messages from both commands. If SFC says it found files it could not repair, follow Microsoft’s current SFC/DISM guidance instead of repeatedly running the same command. If only Wacom is affected and Windows reports no system-file issue, return to the Wacom logs and driver package rather than treating DISM as a universal tablet fix.
When the tablet still is not detected
Separate a driver fault from a connection fault
- Test the tablet on a direct USB port rather than through an unpowered hub or dock.
- Reconnect only after the clean driver installation and restart are complete.
- Check whether Windows makes its normal device-connection sound and whether another USB device works in that port.
- If the tablet works on another computer with the same model driver, focus on the original Windows installation, security software, or USB configuration.
These checks do not prove that the cable or tablet hardware is defective, but they prevent repeated driver reinstalls when the failure is physical or connection-specific.
When only one application fails
If Wacom Center detects the tablet and pen pressure works in one application but not another, the WacomHost.exe installation is less likely to be the sole cause. Check that application’s tablet-input setting, profile, and plug-ins, and test a simple drawing program. Keep the Wacom driver unchanged until you have isolated the application-specific behavior.

Capture the executable path and Windows Security history before restarting. A process that appears only briefly can be crashing, being blocked, or loading a mismatched component. The installation log, Driver Logging package, and the security vendor’s event record provide more useful evidence than repeatedly ending and relaunching the process.

What not to do
- Do not replace WacomHost.exe with a file from a third-party DLL or EXE download site.
- Do not assume every file with that name is genuine because one scanned hash had no detections.
- Do not leave antivirus protection disabled after a diagnostic test.
- Do not create a blanket security exclusion for every Wacom-named executable.
- Do not delete arbitrary Wacom folders before following Wacom’s documented uninstall procedure.
- Do not leave Driver Logging enabled after collecting the package because the logs can continue to grow.
- Do not use DISM or SFC as a substitute for installing the correct tablet-model driver.
When to contact Wacom Support
Contact Wacom when the verified, model-correct driver has been cleanly reinstalled, the tablet remains undetected, or the logs show a repeatable service or startup failure. Include the exact error, model, Windows edition, driver version, executable path and signature result, the five-process status, Install.log or relevant files from %TEMP%, and the WacomLogs.waczip package when available. State whether the problem changes when the tablet is connected directly, on another computer, or after the security product’s documented allow-list action.

WacomHost.exe is expected Wacom driver software when it is in a Wacom Program Files directory and carries a valid Wacom Technology Corp. signature. A different path, missing signature, or security alert changes the risk assessment. For “tablet not found” and “driver not responding” errors, verify the five Wacom processes and security history, complete Wacom’s documented clean uninstall and model-specific reinstall, then use installation or Driver Logging evidence. Reserve DISM and SFC for cases where Windows itself shows broader corruption.
