For the fullest character progression, play the five main games in release order. If you want to start with the newer adventures, Uncharted: Legacy of Thieves Collection is an officially supported entry point—but it contains only Uncharted 4 and The Lost Legacy, not the first three games.

What kind of game is Uncharted?
PlayStation describes Uncharted as a cinematic action-adventure series built around historical mysteries, globe-spanning locations, lost treasures and blockbuster action set pieces. The games combine exploration and environmental puzzles with gunfights, climbing and story-driven scenes. They are treasure-hunt adventures, not one continuous quest: each game has its own central mystery.

What happens in each Uncharted game?
Each game follows a different historical clue or lost place. These summaries avoid major twists.
Uncharted: Drake’s Fortune
Nathan Drake follows a clue associated with Sir Francis Drake in search of El Dorado.
Uncharted 2: Among Thieves
Nathan pursues the lost fleet of Marco Polo and the Himalayan valley of Shambhala.

Which Uncharted games are in each collection?
The two collections divide the five-game path into the original Nathan Drake trilogy and the two later adventures. Neither collection contains all five games.

PlayStation lists the first collection’s contents and platform details on The Nathan Drake Collection page, and the later pair on the Legacy of Thieves Collection page. The collection release of Legacy of Thieves omits the multiplayer modes that appeared in the original titles.
What is the best Uncharted game to start with?
For the fullest character arc: start with Drake’s Fortune
Play Drake’s Fortune, Among Thieves, Drake’s Deception, A Thief’s End and then The Lost Legacy. That release order gives you the most context for returning characters, relationships and callbacks as the series develops.

- UNCHARTED: Legacy of Thieves Collection for PlayStation 5 New Video Game
For a newer starting point: choose Legacy of Thieves Collection
The collection lets you play Uncharted 4 and The Lost Legacy without first completing the original trilogy. Naughty Dog says newcomers can understand Chloe’s story by starting with the collection, while fans of the earlier games will recognize her return. It is a supported way into the later adventures, but it does not include the first three games. See Naughty Dog’s collection announcement.
If you will play only one: pick by the story you want
PlayStation’s guidance is that you can start with whichever game you like: there is an evolving storyline, but each game has a distinct narrative and is meant to stand on its own. Choose Drake’s Fortune if you want the beginning of Nathan’s arc; choose Legacy of Thieves Collection if you want two later, self-contained adventures. PlayStation explains this in its Uncharted FAQ.
Should you buy a collection or an individual game?
Choose based on which part of the story you want and which platform you use. The PS5 disc edition of Legacy of Thieves Collection contains the single-player stories of Uncharted 4 and The Lost Legacy; it is not the collection of the first three games. PlayStation Direct lists the disc and its contents on its product page. Stock and edition availability can change.

If you want the story from its beginning, look for The Nathan Drake Collection, which groups the first three single-player campaigns. Together, the two collections cover the five main games described here.
What makes The Lost Legacy different?
The Lost Legacy gives Chloe and Nadine the lead rather than centering Nathan. In a 2017 PlayStation Blog interview, creative director Shaun Escayg discussed how its more open structure, optional exploration and regional details create room for the characters’ bond and conflict to shape gameplay. Those comments describe this game specifically, not every entry in the series. Read the 2017 interview.
