ts3ep07.exe is the executable for The Sims 3: Supernatural. An EA support case places the legitimate game file at C:Program Files (x86)Electronic ArtsThe Sims 3GameBinPacksTS3EP07TS3EP07.exe. It is not a standard Windows component. A copy in that expansion-pack directory is consistent with a normal installation, but the filename alone cannot prove that a particular copy is safe.
Check the complete path, publisher signature, provenance, hash and anti-malware result before running an unfamiliar copy. If the game crashes during startup, Windows Reliability Monitor (perfmon /rel) is the most useful first diagnostic. Windows Error Reporting subsequently appears. The EA administrator clarified that werfault.exe is the Windows Error Reporting Tool; its appearance after a game crash does not, by itself, mean that the computer is infected.

The exact drive letter can differ if you installed the game elsewhere, and a modern EA installation may use a different library folder. What matters is that the file is inside the game’s own The Sims 3GameBinPacksTS3EP07 hierarchy, not merely that its filename looks familiar.

Is ts3ep07.exe safe?

ThreatInfo currently lists a TS3EP07.exe item with a Trojan.Heur! label dated October 17, 2026. That is mutable, third-party heuristic evidence, not a verdict about every copy installed with The Sims 3. It should prompt verification and a full scan rather than a blanket claim that all EA installations are infected.
Check an unfamiliar copy before running it
Use this sequence when the file was found outside the game, appeared unexpectedly, or was flagged by security software. Do not double-click it merely to see what happens.

Stop and identify the process
If it is running, press Ctrl+Shift+Esc to open Task Manager. On the Details tab, find
TS3EP07.exe, right-click it and choose Open file location. Copy the complete path into a note. If the process is not running, search for the filename in File Explorer, but do not launch it. -
Inspect Properties
Right-click the file, choose Properties, and review the Details tab. Look for a product description identifying The Sims 3 or Supernatural and check that the version information is plausible for your installation. On the Digital Signatures tab, select the signer and choose Details to confirm whether Windows reports the signature as valid. Windows labels can differ slightly between editions.

Record a hash when you need a precise comparison
A hash identifies the exact bytes of your copy; it does not make a file safe by itself. In PowerShell, use a command like:

Scan the file and the computer
In Windows Security, open Virus & threat protection, choose Scan options, and run a Full scan. You can also right-click the executable in File Explorer and choose the Microsoft Defender scan command when it is shown. Microsoft Security Intelligence advises using a full scan and Microsoft Safety Scanner when malware is suspected. Keep the file closed until the scan completes.

Check where the file came from
Ask whether it was installed by your EA game library, restored from a backup you created, or downloaded unexpectedly. An unsolicited download, an attachment, a crack, or a “DLL fixer” package is not equivalent to a file installed by the publisher. Preserve the original path and quarantine record before deleting anything so you can explain the event if further help is needed.

Decide whether to keep, quarantine or replace it
A file in the expected game directory with a valid signature and clean scans can remain in place while you troubleshoot the game. A file in an unrelated writable folder, or one detected by a trusted scanner, should stay quarantined or be removed according to the scanner’s instructions. If a legitimate game file is missing, restore it by repairing or reinstalling the expansion from an official EA source, not by downloading an isolated executable.
Use Reliability Monitor to diagnose a startup crash
Reliability Monitor shows the Windows event associated with the failed launch and is the documented first diagnostic for this scenario.
- Press Windows key+R, type
perfmon /rel, and press Enter. - In the calendar, select the day marked with a red critical-event icon that matches the failed launch.
- Open the Sims 3 failure entry and choose View technical details.
- Copy the application name, faulting module, exception code, application path and report time into a note before changing files.
- Look for an
APPCRASHentry. The EA case namesPAUL.DLLas the faulting module. That detail can point toward a damaged game component or compatibility problem, but it is not, by itself, evidence of malware.
Use the application path in the event to confirm which copy actually failed. If Reliability Monitor points to the official game directory and no security product reports a threat, focus first on repairing the installation and removing conflicting custom content. If it points to a temporary or user-writable folder, return to the provenance and scanning steps above.

Fix “TS3EP07.exe has stopped working” or an APPCRASH
1. Preserve the diagnostic details
Before reinstalling anything, save the Reliability Monitor technical details and note whether the failure occurs before the game window appears. This distinguishes a repeatable game-launch failure from a process that starts at unrelated times. If the faulting module changes after each attempt, record each event rather than guessing which file is responsible.
2. Repair the game installation
Open the EA game launcher you used to install The Sims 3 and look for its repair or verify command for the game. Labels and availability vary by launcher version. Allow the process to replace damaged or missing files, then restart Windows and test the game once. Use only the launcher’s legitimate repair mechanism; do not copy a replacement TS3EP07.exe or DLL from a download site.
3. Temporarily remove custom content and mods
Custom content can interfere with startup even when the core executable is intact. Close the game and move your custom-content and mod folders to a backup location outside the Sims 3 directory. Do not delete them until you know they are unrelated. Launch the unmodified game once. If it starts, restore content in small groups until the conflicting item is identified; if it still fails, leave the backup untouched and continue with installation repair.
4. Reinstall the affected expansion when core files are damaged
If repair does not restore the file, or Reliability Monitor continues to identify the TS3EP07 component, uninstall and reinstall The Sims 3: Supernatural through the legitimate EA installation channel. A reinstall replaces the expansion’s core files as a set and is safer than obtaining one executable or DLL separately. Keep saved games and backed-up custom content outside the installation folder so the process does not overwrite them.

Restart the computer, launch the game without custom content, and check whether a new critical event appears. If the game opens, close it normally and then restore your backed-up content gradually. If it still produces the same APPCRASH after a clean repair or reinstall, retain the event details, including the faulting module and exception code, for EA support; repeated blind reinstalls are unlikely to reveal a different cause.

When the file is missing or was quarantined
Verify the quarantine entry
Open the security product’s protection history and confirm the exact filename and path. A quarantine entry for the game’s TS3EP07 directory is different from one for a copy in Downloads or AppData. Check the detection name, date and action taken before restoring anything.
Restore only a verified legitimate file
If the path, provenance and signature identify a file that came from your own trusted EA installation and the detection is judged a false positive, restoration may be possible through the security product’s controlled restore option. Re-scan immediately and monitor the game. If any part of the provenance is uncertain, leave it quarantined and reinstall the expansion instead.
Never use unofficial replacement files
Do not download a standalone TS3EP07.exe, PAUL.DLL or a so-called DLL-fixer bundle from an unofficial site. A process that appears when The Sims 3 is not launching deserves a different response from a game-only crash.
- Use Task Manager’s Open file location and record the complete path.
- Check the file’s Properties, Details and Digital Signatures tabs.
- Run a full anti-malware scan and follow any quarantine recommendation.
- Review Task Manager > Startup apps and the launcher entries you recognize. Disable an unknown startup item only after recording its name and location; do not delete files blindly.
- Think back to recent downloads, attachments or unofficial game modifications that could have introduced the copy.
- After cleanup, restart and verify that the process no longer returns outside a game launch.
System-wide symptoms such as unrelated applications crashing, new startup entries, browser changes or repeated security alerts make a full security investigation more important than a simple game reinstall. Conversely, a failure that occurs only when launching Supernatural, always points to the installed game directory, and produces the same Reliability Monitor event is more consistent with a damaged or incompatible game component.

Common mistakes to avoid
- Assuming every file named TS3EP07.exe is safe because the name belongs to a real game.
- Assuming a valid EA signature proves that the particular file is unmodified or harmless.
- Deleting the executable before recording its path, signature and quarantine details.
- Restoring a quarantined file without checking which directory it came from.
