That association does not prove that every file with this name is safe. Malware can copy a legitimate filename.
Judge the file by its complete path, digital signature, parent process and security-scan results. If it is in the expected Wondershare Transfer directory, is signed by the expected publisher, was launched by UniConverter and passes an updated Microsoft Defender scan, it is more plausibly legitimate. A copy in a temporary folder, user profile, random Windows directory or unrelated program folder needs investigation before you allow or delete it.

What transferprocess.exe does
The filename refers to a Windows executable used by a transfer component of Wondershare UniConverter. UniConverter is a video-conversion application, and the executable’s name indicates a role related to transferring or moving data within that application. File inventories identify TransferProcess.exe as version 1.0.0.3. A separate sandbox report observed the process running from the Wondershare Video Converter Ultimate Desktop installation and gave the process description as “TransferProcess,” also version 1.0.0.3.

Those records establish an application context, not a universal identity. Windows does not reserve an executable name for one vendor. Any program can be named transferprocess.exe, including a malicious program intended to look like a familiar component. The filename by itself is therefore weak evidence. The location and operating context matter more than capitalization or the fact that the process appears in Task Manager.

Why the path matters
A legitimate UniConverter copy is expected under the program’s installed directory, commonly a Transfer subdirectory. The observed example was:

A path under the Wondershare UniConverter directory is a meaningful signal; a path under %TEMP%, a user profile’s roaming or local-data folders, an arbitrary folder at the root of a drive, or an unrelated application’s directory is a warning sign.
Is transferprocess.exe safe or a virus?
There is no safe-or-malicious answer based on the name alone. The strongest legitimate explanation is a Wondershare UniConverter installation. A suspicious copy can still use that same name, and an unknown file is not automatically malware. Microsoft describes unknown or uncommonly downloaded software as higher risk for typical users while noting that “unknown” does not itself establish malicious behavior.

- Path: the file is inside the installed Wondershare UniConverter directory, normally its
Transferfolder. - Publisher and signature: the executable has a valid digital signature from the expected publisher, with Windows reporting that the signature is valid.
- Process context: UniConverter or another expected Wondershare component is the parent process, rather than an unknown launcher, script or persistence mechanism.
- Security result: an up-to-date Microsoft Defender scan does not detect the file and there is no unexplained startup or network behavior.
One matching signal is not enough. For example, a file can be placed in a convincing folder by an installer or malware, while an unsigned file can be a damaged or old legitimate component. Treat conflicting signals as unresolved until you investigate them.
How to identify your copy safely
1. Locate the executable from Task Manager
- Press Ctrl+Shift+Esc to open Task Manager. Select More details if the compact view is shown.
- Find
transferprocess.exeor a Wondershare/UniConverter process under the Processes or Details tab. - Right-click it and choose Open file location. Record the complete path before changing or deleting anything.
- Right-click the file in File Explorer, choose Properties, and note the file size, product name, version and any publisher information shown on the Details tab.
If Task Manager closes before you can open the location, start UniConverter and look again, or use Process Explorer in the next step. Do not download another executable merely because the original is difficult to locate.

2. Check the digital signature
- In the file’s Properties, open Digital Signatures.
- Select the listed signature and choose Details.
- Confirm that Windows reports the signature as valid and that the signer is the publisher you expect for your UniConverter installation.
An absent, invalid or mismatched signature does not by itself prove a virus, but it removes an important legitimacy signal. Record the result with the path and version. If the file is signed by an unrelated publisher, stop treating it as a normal UniConverter component until the discrepancy is explained.
3. Examine the process with Process Explorer
Microsoft Sysinternals Process Explorer can show active processes, their owning accounts, parent processes, handles and loaded DLLs. Open the utility, locate transferprocess.exe, and inspect:

- the Windows account running it;
- the executable path and command line;
- loaded DLLs and other open handles.
A UniConverter parent and a path inside the Wondershare installation are consistent with the expected application context. An unknown parent, an unusual account, a script-based launch or modules loaded from temporary directories warrants a security investigation. Process Explorer provides evidence; it does not certify a file as safe.
4. Scan before allowing or deleting
- Open Windows Security and select Virus & threat protection.
- Install the latest security-intelligence updates, then choose Scan options and run a Full scan.
- If a threat remains active, returns after removal or interferes with normal scanning, use Microsoft Defender Offline scan. It restarts Windows and scans before the usual desktop loads.
Do not disable protection to make an uncertain executable run. A clean scan is useful evidence, but no single scan can prove that a file is legitimate in every circumstance.
5. Submit an unresolved file for analysis
If the path, signature and process context disagree, submit the specific executable to Microsoft’s Security Intelligence file-submission portal. The portal accepts files suspected of being malware or potentially unwanted applications and files that may be false positives. Submit the exact copy you investigated, not a replacement downloaded from a file-sharing site, and keep the local file quarantined or inactive while you wait for a determination.

What to do when Defender detects transferprocess.exe
Read the detection name and the file path in Windows Security. If the publisher or origin is uncertain, choose Quarantine rather than Allow. Microsoft explains that quarantine moves a file to a safe location and blocks it from running. Allowing a detection should be reserved for software and publishers you trust and have independently verified.
After quarantine, restart Windows and run another full scan. If UniConverter no longer works, do not restore the file simply to test it. Confirm whether the detection concerns the expected installation, check the signature and submit the file for analysis if the result is disputed. If other files or startup entries are also detected, follow the remediation actions Windows Security presents instead of restoring individual components.
Why transferprocess.exe may keep crashing
The available records identify the executable and its expected location but do not establish one universal crash cause or any crash-rate statistic. Repeated failures usually fall into one of these categories:
- Damaged or incomplete UniConverter installation: an update, interrupted installation or disk problem can leave an executable or one of its DLL dependencies inconsistent.
- Version or component mismatch: an updated main application can attempt to use an older transfer component, or a component can be replaced without all related files being updated.
- Security intervention: Defender or another security product may block, quarantine or restrict a file it considers suspicious.
- Permissions or account context: the process may lack access to its installation, temporary or destination folders, especially when a job is launched under a different Windows account.
- Impersonation: a malicious executable with the same name can crash, relaunch or interfere with the legitimate program while appearing in Task Manager.
- Resource or input conditions: a particular transfer job, destination drive, unsupported media file or low available disk space can expose a failure that does not occur with every job.
Use the path and parent-process checks first. A crash from the verified Wondershare directory calls for application repair; a crash from an unrelated directory calls for security handling, not a UniConverter reinstall.
Manual fixes for a verified UniConverter copy
Restart and reproduce carefully
Save work, close UniConverter and restart Windows. Test one small transfer after the restart and note whether the failure occurs at launch, during file selection, at a particular percentage or when writing to a particular destination. This separates a repeatable application failure from a one-time interruption and gives you a useful symptom to compare after each change.

Check security history and permissions
Open Windows Security > Virus & threat protection > Protection history and look for an action involving the executable or its DLLs. Do not create broad exclusions for an unverified file. For a verified installation, confirm that your account can read and execute files in the UniConverter directory and can write to the selected destination folder. Testing a folder you control can show whether the failure is tied to destination permissions rather than the transfer component itself.
Update or reinstall UniConverter
If errors began after a UniConverter update, use Windows’ supported uninstall path:
- Open Settings > Apps > Installed apps (called Apps & features on some Windows versions).
- Find Wondershare UniConverter or Video Converter Ultimate, open its menu and choose Uninstall.
- Restart Windows after the uninstall completes.
- Download the installer only from Wondershare’s official source, install it, and test the transfer component before restoring a large queue.
Do not replace the executable with an EXE from an unofficial download site. A replacement can be modified, can belong to a different release, or can introduce a second copy that is harder to assess. If uninstalling leaves a clearly identified, inactive Wondershare folder behind, document its path, scan it, and remove only leftovers you can confidently associate with the uninstalled program.
Use Process Explorer to investigate a persistent crash
Capture the process tree immediately before the crash and review loaded DLL paths. If a module is loaded from a temporary or unrelated directory, investigate that module separately. If the process is launched by an unexpected scheduler, script or startup entry, disable the launch only after confirming what created it and after scanning the associated files. Avoid deleting DLLs one at a time: doing so can damage a legitimate installation and make a later repair less reliable.
Can you delete transferprocess.exe?
Do not delete it solely because the filename looks unfamiliar or because it appears in Task Manager. If it belongs to an installed UniConverter copy, manual deletion can break transfers and leave the application in a partially installed state. Uninstall UniConverter through Windows first, restart, and then check whether the executable remains.
If the file is detected by Defender, quarantine or remove it through Windows Security rather than forcing deletion while it is running. If it is outside the Wondershare directory, unsigned or launched by an unknown process, treat it as a potentially unwanted or malicious copy: stop relying on the filename, scan the system, inspect its process context and submit the file for analysis if necessary.
Only remove a remaining file after you have verified that it is not needed by another installed application, that the related program has been uninstalled, and that security checks do not identify an active threat. Keep a record of the original path and detection result in case another component begins failing after cleanup.

The version comparison is contextual, not a pass/fail test. The 1.0.0.3 references come from a 2019 file inventory and a 2018 sandbox report; current UniConverter releases or regional builds may use different versions.

When the evidence remains inconclusive
Do not “Allow” an uncertain detection just because UniConverter is installed, and do not delete a clean, correctly signed component just because it has a generic name. Preserve the executable, its path, signature details and scan result; inspect the parent process; and submit the exact file to Microsoft for analysis. This approach gives you a defensible answer without relying on filename folklore or an unofficial replacement download.
