AT-VMx is a family of cartridges with different stylus types and configurations—not one model with one set of specifications. If you need a replacement stylus, first identify the cartridge fitted to your turntable.
What is Audio-Technica’s VMx cartridge line?
AT-VMx is Audio-Technica’s range of VM-type phono cartridges. The company’s Japanese lineup describes VM as dual moving magnet and lists stereo, mono and SP-record options, as well as replacement styli. Audio-Technica’s distribution announcement groups the updated range into AT-VM700x, AT-VM600x and AT-VM500x families.

Models differ in stylus construction and other specifications. For example, the AT-VM520xEB has a bonded elliptical stylus. Audio-Technica’s manual pairs it with the AT-VMN20xEB replacement stylus and specifies a tracking-force range of 1.8–2.2 g, a recommended load impedance of 47 kΩ and recommended load capacitance of 150–250 pF. Those are specifications for the AT-VM520xEB, not for every VMx cartridge and not confirmed specifications for the Andover turntable’s cartridge.
Why is a VMx cartridge on the Andover-One DD?
Andover says it includes a factory-installed premium Audio-Technica VMx cartridge as part of the Andover-One DD package. Its product page presents the cartridge alongside a direct-drive motor and fully adjustable carbon-fiber tonearm as part of an out-of-the-box vinyl setup. The page does not state why Andover selected the VMx range, identify the supplied model, or publish a comparative listening or engineering rationale. The choice is Andover’s; the available product information does not support attributing a particular sonic advantage to it.

Audio-Technica’s distribution announcement highlights a boron cantilever in the 700x group. That feature should not be assumed for the Andover-One DD: Andover specifies only a VMx cartridge, not a 700x model.
Which stylus fits the Andover-One DD?
The exact replacement-stylus model cannot be determined from Andover’s product page because it does not name the installed cartridge. Audio-Technica’s VMx replacement-stylus FAQ says styli are compatible within the AT-VMx series and notes that changing a stylus can be used for upgrades or customization. That series-level guidance does not identify which stylus to order for an Andover unit whose cartridge model is unknown.

- Check the cartridge or stylus label and the turntable’s documentation for the installed model.
- Use Audio-Technica’s model-specific replacement-stylus information to match the cartridge to a stylus.
- If the model is not identifiable, ask Andover or Audio-Technica to confirm it before ordering.
The AT-VM520xEB and AT-VMN20xEB pairing is one documented example, not proof that the Andover-One DD ships with that cartridge. Do not order that SKU for the turntable unless its installed model is confirmed.

Audio-Technica says replacement styli are compatible within the AT-VMx series and that changing one can support upgrades or customization. The available guidance establishes compatibility within the series; it does not mean that complete cartridge bodies are interchangeable, nor does it specify which stylus best suits a particular listener or record collection. Check the cartridge identity and the intended record format or channel type before choosing a replacement.

What to verify before buying a replacement
- Cartridge model: Identify the actual model fitted to the turntable rather than relying on the broader VMx family name.
- Record type: The lineup includes stereo, mono and SP-record options; select a stylus intended for the relevant cartridge and records.
- Stylus design: Tip shape and construction vary by model, so do not transfer one model’s specifications to another.
- Availability: Confirm current stock and regional options with the manufacturer or seller. Listings and availability can change.
Andover’s product page states “Shipping week of 10/5/26.” This is a time-sensitive page statement, not confirmation of current inventory or a delivery guarantee; check the page or contact Andover for current availability.
