The number has not been shown to be a code or to connect the flight incident to that anniversary. A cockpit security incident did occur, and the UAE Attorney-General said on October 3, 2026, that the co-pilot attempted a terrorist act; investigators were still examining motive and possible links.
What does “10-7-3” mean?
People discussing the incident online have read “1073” as “10/7/3”: October 7, three years after the October 7, 2023 attack. The theory draws on the flight number, the route to Tel Aviv, and the timing shortly before the anniversary. Hindustan Times describes this interpretation but reports no evidence that the flight number was deliberately chosen for that meaning or connected to the incident (Hindustan Times).

That is an interpretation of the digits, not an official explanation of the flight number or an investigative finding. The timing and route may explain why the theory spread, but they do not establish intent, coordination, or a causal link. An October 3 PassportNews report also calls the proposed connection unverified (PassportNews).

In an October 3 update, UAE Attorney-General Hamad Saif Al Shamsi said the co-pilot attempted a terrorist act, attacked the captain with a crash axe inside the flight deck, and tried to take control of the aircraft. This account is the Attorney-General’s statement as reported by Emirates News Agency (WAM), not an independently observed account (WAM report).
What have UAE authorities said about motive or a link?
The October 3 statement said inquiries into the full circumstances, motive, possible links, and physical and digital evidence were continuing. Al Shamsi said, “The final results will be announced upon the conclusion of all necessary procedures,” as reported by WAM. The update describes the co-pilot’s alleged actions but does not say they were connected to October 7, 2023, or that the flight number carried that meaning.

The official position has developed over time. On October 1, the Attorney-General ordered a specialized Public Prosecution investigation to establish the facts, circumstances, and motives, including whether there was a terrorist purpose, prior planning, or direction; the initial statement cautioned against conclusions before the inquiry ended (WAM report). On October 2, the GCAA commended the captain, crew, and passengers for intervening, said the captain had returned safely to the UAE and was receiving medical treatment, and urged the public to rely on official information rather than speculation (GCAA statement via WAM).

What can—and cannot—be concluded?
- Established: FZ1073 experienced a cockpit security incident on September 30, diverted, and made an emergency landing in Tabuk.
- Officially described on October 3: the co-pilot attempted a terrorist act and attacked the captain with a crash axe while trying to take control of the aircraft.
- Not established: that the flight number was chosen as a reference to October 7, 2023, or that the incident was linked to that attack.
- Still under investigation: motive, the full circumstances, and any possible links. The October 3 update is not a final report.
Reports give conflicting totals for the people aboard, and the cited official statements do not settle the discrepancy. An exact passenger-and-crew count should therefore not be inferred from those reports (PassportNews report).
